If you knew me you would know I am a big sports car fan. I am in a car club here in Toronto that comprises of corvettes, vipers, camaro's, and Trans Am's.

All the work that was done on my car I did myself, over this winter I changed the motor taking out the 350 and installing a 383 stroker.:D

So yes, you can call me a car freak, hell I have spent more $ on modifications than what I paid for it when I purchased...

p.s. I always watch the speed channel

TTM That is a sweet car indeed. VERY much like the 69 SS my brother had in the mid 70's. From the looks of that rear shot this one has some hidden tricks, IMHO.

Marine a 383 stroker is a 350 mouse that has been stroked, a different crank to increase the CID.

My brothers SS had a 54 Rat in it, he had a lot of drivetrain breakage as he worked up the HP ladder with that engine.

Finally got it right front to back, clutch, Rockcrusher etc.

He fell in love with a faster model a 5'4" 34-22-34 if I remember right, I do remember him mentioning she had a real tight chassis.

I hope he or she doesn't read this. :D

My 68 Chevelle SS 396 went the same way I got married and sold it :(

TTM here we go you get me started yacking about cars & I will start losing bets, gotta keep my focus LOL.

Seriously I have kicked myself for years that car was a southern car(the 68 SS) a local trucker married a gal from the south and I bought it from him in 1973 with a blown 396 (head gasket went bye-bye) I put an LS-6 in it (454) and had a ton of fun with it. I also made some cash.

At one time I would get calls at my now wife's house because there was someone in town looking for a race. IF I couldn't win then we set to outsider up against my brothers 69, and if he got beat we would then shame the guy into racing a buddys 68 Dart.

I know I hate it also that this Dart was faster than either my Chevelle or my brothers 69 SS,BUT ,............

this Mopar had a 426 WEDGE (non-hemi) dual quad tunnel ram with fenderwells, a Mr Gasket straight gate, narrowed rear axle with 12" slicks ;)

Not exactly street legal but he would roll it out for the right amount of cash.

Needless to say he would win our $$$ back along with a nice return for himself.

I NEVER used drugs when I was a kid (16-24) you are reading about what got me high! We had a Quarter marked on the major state highway in our area and it ended right at a T intersection with a township road that all the gang would park on and block and watch the finish of those races.

The Man upstairs kept me safe thru all of those years street racing, I guess he knew I was destined to raise 4 wonderful children.

I never got tagged once for street racing, Deputy Holt knew we did it and turned his back as long as we behaved inside the village. We would roll out to the country, uncap the headers and get it on!

My future wife drove the Chevelle to school one day I was working on her 1964 Olds F-85 and she raced a classmate with a Mustang and won. My brother was still in High school also and I found out about it that evening.

Oh well enough of the history lesson I will bore you guys to tears:cry:

TTM thanks for the props on the contest win, I am doing OK at rolling it over so far but still have a ways to go & after reading the above essay I am sure you know why I sold the Chevelle.

Final note the guy who bought it didn't heed my warning he lost control of of it and slammed into a big oak, but fortunately lived to tell about it.

Geno,

thanks for the essay as i completely enjoyed it!:)

You had an LS-6 (454) in that thing? WOW
That engine is now found in the new corvette's and man does it ever pull, talk about GOBS of Torque all the way up the RPM band....

...Funny thing is my dad had a 68 dart but not the same setup as you mentioned...

Since it seems your still into drag cars let me briefly list what I have done to my car:

1995 TA 5.7 LT1
383 Stroker with callies crank and 6" titanium rods
Ported heads and Intake
1 3/4" Headers
Low compression pistons ( installed a blower )
8 pound Vortech with intercooler supercharger
9" ford mustang rear end(much stronger)
4:10 gears
2800 Torque converter stall( Precision industries)
its an automatic, but I installed a shift kit and a racing tranny
all the suspension goodies you can think of and a nice 4" stainless steel exhaust system(cat-back) Borla is the company...
In the summer i usually drive around town with BFG drag radials on, but if I head out to the track I put the Hoosiers on(10.5" slick)
Finally, I had my computer programmed and tuned to optimize shift points and air to fuel ratio, plus many other modifications that I don't want to bore you with.
So as you can see it is my pride and joy(baby) and I will never sell it as I have just put too much time, sweat, and blood into it.
my best time to date in the 1/4 mile is 10.92@125 mph

my only complaint about it is GAS consumption...

Again, thanks for taking the time to post about a topic that is hardly discussed on here, now you can se why I get a CHUBBER everytime I look at that camaro...

sorry bout the confusion, briefly skimming the posts and saw 383 in a Pontiac... and being the pure bred dodge man that I am, I know jack diddly about chevy and other manufacturers and coulda swore Chrysler was the only to put a 383 in their cars.

Marine, an honest mistake and I absolve you of your gearhead sin, by merely saying stroker I knew that it was a chevy 350 mouse motor that had been stroked ( new crankshaft with longer stroke)

You are correct about the Mopar big block family which included the following CID engines:

350,361,383,400,413,426,440 I have seen all but the 350 it was early vintage like 1958 or so to maybe 1959-1960?

"Tach It Up" by The Beach Boys forever imortalized the 413 ram induction Max Wedge engine. I am not sure the Vet would have won a real life drag race, but of course the Sting Ray was the sex appeal machine back then. ;)

TTM sounds like a wicked machine I am sure you have some serious dough invested. I remember a ride I took in a 1971 Motion Camaro, that was a legit high 12 sec street machine so 10.92 is very impressive for post smog/cat converter era IMO.

The bulk of my knowledge is 1960's thru mid 70's. I have sold more Chevy performance parts than I ever used. Jet Boats, Pulling Tractors and drag & dirt track I have been exposed to all more or less. Great Memories.

Me and my dad just came inot ownership of a 1967 Chevrolet Nova SS! Candy Apple red Chevy II! At first we thought about making a ground pounder out of it but after consideration we decided to modify it with a 2002 Vortec 327 with the 4L60-E Trans and all the electronics to boot! Man that car is so light that with this little rocket under the hood it should go faster than bowl of pretzels at the fat guy table in Vegas this weekend! ;)

I would love to hear all about any cars that are special to your hearts! I am not only the Bluemound Freak but a Car Freak as well!
