No expert but I think Baltimore will have to throw because NE's focus on D will be to stop Ray Rice. I haven't heard it mentioned too much, and do not know for sure in yards/percentages what impact Rice has for Baltimore, but it has to be huge. If Rice doesn't click, neither does Baltimore, and they will need to rely on Flacco to throw. If they control Rice, then they can focus on pressuring Flacco, and the passing game to give their DB's some help. Easy, Ha! :mj07:

Someone mentioned it in this thread.....can Baltimore's LB's/DB's cover NE's tight ends? It's more than Brady. It's his ability to complete passes to the open man whoever that is. If Baltimore can't get to Brady, they will have as much trouble guarding NE's receivers as NE will guarding Baltimore's (see above). :popcorn2

Great game either way with a lot of future HOF'ers playing! :toast:

I agree with everything you said. :toast:

I do not think they can stop Rice. He's the league leader in yards from scrimmage. Houston was capable of stopping him and getting to Flacco, but the Pats are not.

When Rice gets the ball the Ravens win. With a successful game from Rice, Joe should have time to hit the deep passes. NE leads the league on most plays over 20 yards. I think they have given up 9 more than the next team closest to them in that category.

The reason Suggs has been successful in getting to Brady is because they spread it out as much as they do. Our defense will gamble and be aggressive in order to make sure Brady gets hit and gets hit a lot.

Webb, who had 2 picks last week, who didn't play in SAN DIEGO, should be guarding Welker and hopefully keep him under control.

I'm pumped and cannot wait for game time. I just hope I don't come home from the bar with my tail between my legs.

Madjack - thoughts on Ed Reed taking a shot at Flacco?

Did you listen to it?

I just watched it about an hour ago and I think the media is making something out of nothing. I think they are taking his words out of context.

He said he thought Joe was rattled by all the pressure the defense put on him. He answered the question if he thought Joe would have to play better next week and Reed said yes, they all have to play better.

I think he subtlely called out Cameron more than dissing Flacco.

Listen and tell me what you think.

Thanks for posting the actual link. I agree that the media outlet I heard discussing it took it WAY out of context.

Makes more sense now, I was initially surprised by some one as SMART as Reed taking a shot at his QB this week.

Jack, you better hope your boys go up to Foxboro Sunday and play the most physical game of the year. Just like the Jets did last year at this time. That's the only way they will beat them. Pitt did it at home in November, Balty has to do it too. If they don't play that way then they have no chance. You can't give the ball over and over to Brady and get into a shootout. We'll see.... hope you both lose!:0074

CLEEEEAR!!
MY 2 CENTS

MY 2 CENTS

Believe it or not, last game the Ravens were all ready looking ahead to New England. I listen to all the player's radio shows on the local radio and cable. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the players interviewed before the Houston game mentioned something about the possible game at New England the following week.

I know for sure that ALL THE FANS were looking at Houston as a W before the game was played. That crowd was NO WHERE NEAR as loud as it was for Pittsburgh or San Fran. Not even close.

The coaching staff played conservative, a VERY basic, plain vanilla game plan. They knew they beat the Texans before at home WITH SCHABB and won 29-15. What they didn't count on was Houston coming out with a 110% effort and an attitude, and if not for a couple of key turnovers, the Texans would have won.

Now we come to the BIG GAME. The Ravens are not happy with their performance at all. They have had several games this year where they just didn't get as up for the game as you would expect. Last game, Houston was the hungrier team and it showed. This week, count on the Ravens to be very, very hungry. This may well be Reed's and/or Ray Lewis' curtain call and everyone on that team wants to get them this ring. Remember, Reed wasn't here in 2001.

The Ravens have responded after sub-par games every time this year with a much improved performance. They have responded to EVERY SINGLE BIG CHALLENGE. 7-0 vs. Playoff Teams this year!!

There were 4 games that this team REALLY WANTED TO WIN. Both Steeler games, The San Fran game (for their coach that they love to death) and the last game at Cinnci to get the home field playoff game. Result 4-0. THE RAVENS WANT THIS GAME ....BAD!!!! Because nobody thinks they can do it.....Because they want that ring for their Big Brothers.

I am NOT making an official prediction for a Ravens win right now. I am just giving you guys the mind set of the team before last game and before this game. I live in Baltimore and get to see and hear a lot of Ravens info that most of you don't. Hope this helps you all with your handicapping.

And remember, 5 dimes had a line on this game BEFORE last week's divisional round. It was New England -3.5 vs. Baltimore. Knowing how bettors overreact to whatever happened last week, the line is now NE-7.5. That is a HUGE difference!!
Peace Out.

Where it is real F ing COLD
I see Brady not being stopped in this one. Just my opinion. Ravens Defense is above average but not the defense everyone thinks it is. Saying that I'm not betting it but if I was I would be playing Pats which bolds well for Ravens..

>So you want to talk about skewed stats, look at the defenses NE played. They lost to any half decent defense they played.<

The Jets had the 5th rated defense and the Pats swept them. Pats also beat the Eagles and they had the 8th rated defense. Matter of fact, 10 of the Pats games this year were against teams in the upper half of the league defensively

I really think stats are overated when it comes to capping. The Eagles finished 8th? They were the worst defense in the 1st half of the year. And look at Pittsburgh, they were #1 and let Tim Tebow beat them. Rankings don't mean shit. Where did the Giants finish? Right now they should be #1...

Just came across another stat about the Ravens defense... They had 48 sacks this year and half of them came against'

St Louis
Indy
San Fran
Arizona..

I'm telling ya this defense is over rated. Don't be fooled by the numbers.. It's a mirage..

NE didn't beat any team with a winning record the entire regular season. They finally beat Denver to get that out of the way.

What about the Ravens record against playoff teams? NO OTHER TEAM IN THE NFL HAD A 7-0 vs playoff teams.

bull shit......NE played at least 7 teams with winning records and did pretty well against them too......6/1 straight up and 5/2 against the spread......

9-18 vs San Diego 1/0......-6.6..W....35-21
9-25 @ Buff.........2/0......-7.....L....34-31
10-02 @ Oak.......2/1.......-6.....W....31-19
10-30 @ Pitt.......5/2.......-3......L....17-25
11-13 @ NYJ......5/3.......-2.5....W....37-16
12-18 @ Den......8/6.......-7.......W....41-23
1-14 vs Den.......9/8.......-14......W...45-10

these teams had winning records at the time they played which is what really matters.......they might have finished with losing records......and some of it was probably because of the heavy punnishments they received at the hands of the
Patriots........but anyhow you can't blame their woes on New England they just played the teams on their schedule
