1 more day to go and then look out Bambi. :firing:
Here is a quick story about how lucky i have been so far right before the season opens.
I couldnt get off work but the wife could so I told her to go and have fun. She is hunting with friends about 5 hrs from here. I could have went but its just way to far to drive for a weekend. So at the last minute I decided on a area about 2 hrs from here that I would try. I looked all over the net found the public hunting grounds but couldnt find a detailed map showing snowmobile/atv trails entering the woods. I needed that because I planned on getting up there 1 hour before sun up and was needing something to walk in on so I wouldnt get lost. I was getting completely frustrated by Wed night at not finding anything so I posted on a different site asking if anyone knew of trails on public land.
A couple of hours later I got a response from a person saying he owned 20 acres in the area I was looking at and he didnt hunt so I was welcomed to hunt the land. I damn near fell over. I called him yesterday and he explained that he lives out of state and the land hasent been hunted in years. He didnt want anything for letting me hunt there. (But I can see a thank you package heading his way with sticks and jerky after the season is over) No one else has permission to be on the land so its 20 acres to myself.
I got the directions along with info on where the boundries are last night and he e-mailed me a letter with his permission to hunt the land that included his phone number. (I did a reverse phone look up to make sure it was legit..I have talked to him on the phone so I know the number is good)
This area is completely surrounded by private land so the pressure on the deer should should be at a minnimum. Unlike public land where there are thousands of hunters crammed in a area.
So it looks like I am off to a lucky start for the season. Hopefully it holds out when the monster buck walks in front of me.
Even if I dont see a thing I figure a weekend sitting in the woods is better than any weekend sitting at home wishing I was there.
So to everyone going into the woods this weekend...be safe and I hope you bag the big one. :mj14: :mj14:
