With computing batting averages how is a walk added in the equation? Is is considered a hit or not? Any help at all would be greatly appreicated it.

a walk does not count as an 'at-bat' and doesn't figure into the equation.

If Batter 1 has 3 at bats on the day.

1. Single
2. Ground Out
3. Walk
4. Walk

You say he went 1 for 2 with 1 base on balls

His avg on the day would be .500
