So, why exactly do you think this new chick is such a plus for the republicans? Do you really think she'll pull the women's vote - she is about as anti-Hillary as she can be in many ways? Biden authored the violence against women act, and McCain voted against it, and has no love of womens issues or even wanting them to have equal pay, essentially?

She's painful to listen to if today's radio speech is any indication. Representing Alaska and their 3 votes? To say this selection is a gamble is an understatement. And she is already battling personal issues publicly now, to kick off the campaign?

Good luck with your euphoria, my friend. This is a huge miss, IMO. I think Wayne even realizes it, with his wager rethinking commentary. No way a majority of people in this country would consider her to be President of the United States, and that's about all a V.P. can do for you at this point, except for Biden, who actually brings something positive and real experience to the table.

$100 it is, my friend. Cheers!

many women felt that hillary got the shaft & have become disenfranchised with the dem. party....& i think they were looking for an excuse to vote for mccain...& now ms. alaska is the excuse that many women were looking for.now i am not saying that ALL the women who were for hillary will vote for mccain because that won't happen. there are hard core pro-choice voter's who won't switch to mccain.....but i think enough will.

now as far as biden is concerned....obama became popular in the beginning of the primary because he said that he is the candidate of change...& in the beginning people bought it. but over time people started realizing that he is just like all of the other candidates who ran for the presidency & he proved it by picking mr. "inside the beltway" joe biden (who i think is a good choice for obama). biden has run for the presidency almost every 4 years since the 80's & he failed miserably to even be considered to be a serious candidate every time that he ran....am pretty sure that he always garnered single digit % of votes. and because of those failures, i think biden will prove over time that he won't get any voters to go for obama...while i think ms. alaska will be a tremendous asset for mccain.....obama made a tactical mistake by not taking hillary....& mccain capitialized on that blunder

as i said i believe this is game, set, match....but this is just my opinion & i can be wrong....

I'll take the double option as well, AR.

You remind me of myself on a Saturday with my ND wager, getting shelled at halftime and trying to make myself believe that "we've got them right where we want them"

Game's been over for a month now, but I admire your optimism.

AR, I think there are VERY few women who supported Hillary for the reasons they did, who would switch parties and complete philosophical views and issues to vote for a pro-life gun toting NRA member. And I think there will be plenty of women - have read and heard several today - that will be offended by the simplistic view that they will simply fawn over a woman and vote blindly that way. There will be some who will give up their ideals and beliefs, yes, but I doubt many, when they step back and realize which party HAS ALWAYS better reflected their views and ideals - especially when the head of the ticket is John McCain - probably the furthest thing from a women's rights friend(sh) as you can get.

I wonder how many of James Dobson's worshippers and all the Evangelicals who are singing her praises even know about the gay rights veto she exercised, and how many conservatives know about her taxing oil company profits and global warming/and emissions requirements and legislations that are costly (in theory) to business. She has less than two years in any kind of position of "big time" authority, and she already has this kind of record to measure?

Good luck with all that. Personally, I think she seems like a sharp woman, intelligent, well-spoken, and fiscally conservative. I admire her work towards ethics reform and going after the weasels in her own party. But the kicker - and may be the most damaging to her mantra of being a reformer and going after the porkers, is her initial support - publicly - of the Bridge to Nowhere, and smiling/picturing/hanging with Ted Stevens - while now saying she was against it as a good reason to think highly of her? One day in the limelight, and her gleaming positive is already proven to have been either a flip-flop or a lie?

Again, good luck with all that.

What Palin does

1. Steps on the story of Obama?s speech (and convention), and possibly the bounce coming from them, and wipes them off the news cycle. The Sunday news shows will be all-Palin, all of the time.

2. Sends Republicans into their convention on a huge head of steam.

3. Wipes out the image of McCain as the crotchety elder and brings back that of the fly-boy and gambler, which is much more appealing, and the genuine person.

4. Revs up the base AND excites independents, which no one else in the party, or perhaps in the world, could have accomplished.

5. Puts youth, change, and history on both of the tickets.

6. May detach some young people, especially women.

7. May attach some women pissed off about Hillary.

8. As a pro-life super-achiever, puts feminists in a tizzy.

9. Revives some of the double-edged nature of the Democratic primary, which featured a black vs. a
female trail-blazer, and put both sides on notice on sensitivity issues. Democrats used to raising charges of racism against Obama?s critics may face charges of sexism and/or condescension if they try to diss her.

10. Steps on Obama?s claims to have been a reformer, as he reformed nothing (much less the corrupt mare?s nest of Chicago arrangements), while she was a dragon-slayer up in Alaska.

11. As a mother of five, one a Down Syndrome baby, helps her side take on the Democrats on abortion extremism and the Born Alive bill.

12. Reignites the deep and unhealed stresses inside the Democrats, some of whom will now wonder more loudly than ever why they didn't pick Hillary.

13. Counters Michelle in a way Cindy couldn?t.

14. Counter-intuitively, makes the issue of Obama?s light resume more potent than ever. Her lack of experience is no more than his is. And he?s--to use a term from Alaska, and the Iditarod--their lead dog.

Would agree with much of what you said there, Wayne. Adding her to the ticket does some things to help the ticket. I just don't think it would have helped the overall push as much as Romney would have - he would have cemented the evangelical base who would have held their nose and pulled the trigger with him on board, but would have definitely cemented the conservatives in a stronger way than a couple year termed soccer mom who has global warming and business taxation histories that should be looked at as strongly as the other parts of the resume for guys like you (IMO).
