Well the studios are trying to force you to either buy there stuff or pirate it and major companies are falling in line. The only other option is to visit your friendly local independent store as they will have it in stock on its release date.

NETFLIX has made an agreement with Warner Bros. that it will not rent any new release title of Warners until 4 weeks after the street date release in order to increase sales.
REDBOX has already had this treatment given to them for the past 2 months by Warner and two other studios.
BLOCKBUSTER, who is on the very near verge of bankruptcy is said to be following suit in the very near future.

THIS WILL NOT STOP A LOCAL INDEPENDENT STORE FROM RENTING THE TITLES ON THE STREET DATE AS A FIRST SALE DOC. GIVES THEM THE RIGHT TO DO SO. SO VISIT YOUR LOCAL STORE IF YOU STILL HAVE ONE!

It is also very well known that Sony which controls Columbia and Dimension films is about to join in with not allowing NETFLIX to carry titles until 4 weeks after street.

Here is a list of movies from Dec./Jan. that you would not have been able to get for 4 weeks from NETFLIX or REDBOX had this been in place 1 month earlier just to give you an example:
Angels & Demons
Four Christmases
Terminator Salvation
Harry Potter
Julie And Julia
The Hangover
District 9
Final Destination
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
Whiteout
Halloween II

THAT IS SOME LIST. Netflix is going to suffer from this and piracy is about to really get cranked up a notch is my guess.

They are under HEAVY and I mean HEAVY FIRE from the studios to raise the price to $2 a day and it sounds like they are going to cave from reports.
If Blockbuster files for bankruptcy then it will be one company out of Redbox's way and will clearly be raising its prices.

The question is how many people will bail on their NETFLIX account once they realize that they can't get movies that are already on the street?

I think they take a BIG hit. A business is all about SUPPLY AND DEMAND.
The demand is the newest releases and their supply is ZERO.

My Netflix que is so far backed up with "new releases" it would take me forever to catch up anyway. So I don't need to get the movies the week they are released. If I wanted to see it that bad I would have went to the theater.

I didn't read the article but I heard on the national news that since Netlfix is delaying the new releases, Warner Brothers is allowing them to have more of their older movies available to the "watch now" option on Netflix.

I thought it was a fair trade off and didn't see that Netflix didn't have a choice.

There is always more to the story isnt there...

damn sure not going to spend 35-40 bucks at theatre on 2 tickets w/2-popcorn and 2-drinks

they can shove that schyt were the sun don't shine.

but certainly see your point about the delay and Big Business

I am completely unphased and unaffected by a 4 week delay on release of any movie. Hell, I rarely watch a movie that is worthwhile anyway......

I pay 10 bucks a month, can watch instantly or have blue ray delivered and do nothing more than walk to my mailbox.

I don't think I'm getting screwed...

Yes I do. :mj07:

You could tell??:142smilie
What gave it away my sales pitch to support local independents or my hatred towards BB and Netflix.:142smilie

And I can tell you that movie releases within the first 28 days are about 60% of our profit.
Porn is 15% and older releases and games are 25% of rental income.

Trust me there will be plenty of people who see a TV ad for a movie like THE HANGOVER and says buy it today.
They will think oh that is out. Let me go get it at Netflix.
The disappointment will be there.

I don't think this is a long term idea from either party but whatever.
It can only benefit me.;)

Family Video here. Do they have to do the same thing as Netfilx and BB or will they still get new releases earlier?

And Netflix never had the selection that Family Video has. I still use Netflix for the 'watch now' movies although it's getting very hard for me to find any that I haven't seen or want to see.

God no.
They will benefit from this in a BIG WAY if anything.
They will still get them same day as a Walmart or Best Buy.
As of right now so will BB stores but rumors are that might change although I don't think it will.
Blockbuster is on the verge of bankruptcy and can't take risks like that.

I have never used Netflix since I own a store, but my two buddies say it will not matter to them because it takes weeks to ever get a new release from them to begin with.:142smilie

Pitiful.
Family owned businesses are a thing of the past even if you do it right and we may soon be headed down that road, but this could help.
