Well the studios are trying to force you to either buy there stuff or pirate it and major companies are falling in line. The only other option is to visit your friendly local independent store as they will have it in stock on its release date.
NETFLIX has made an agreement with Warner Bros. that it will not rent any new release title of Warners until 4 weeks after the street date release in order to increase sales.
REDBOX has already had this treatment given to them for the past 2 months by Warner and two other studios.
BLOCKBUSTER, who is on the very near verge of bankruptcy is said to be following suit in the very near future.
THIS WILL NOT STOP A LOCAL INDEPENDENT STORE FROM RENTING THE TITLES ON THE STREET DATE AS A FIRST SALE DOC. GIVES THEM THE RIGHT TO DO SO. SO VISIT YOUR LOCAL STORE IF YOU STILL HAVE ONE!
It is also very well known that Sony which controls Columbia and Dimension films is about to join in with not allowing NETFLIX to carry titles until 4 weeks after street.
Here is a list of movies from Dec./Jan. that you would not have been able to get for 4 weeks from NETFLIX or REDBOX had this been in place 1 month earlier just to give you an example:
Angels & Demons
Four Christmases
Terminator Salvation
Harry Potter
Julie And Julia
The Hangover
District 9
Final Destination
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
Whiteout
Halloween II
THAT IS SOME LIST. Netflix is going to suffer from this and piracy is about to really get cranked up a notch is my guess.
