Not much on TV right now so I'm trying to do some research on BGE Prices. I've used the google machine but I swear the prices are kept secret or some shit.

Anyway, the wife and I are going to a benefit next weekend and I see this on the list for the live auction:

Large Big Green Egg, stand, plate setter, and charcoal.

What is that worth? All I know is I've never heard one bad thing about those eggs and this time of year I'd love to smoke some BBQ.

Which stand?

They are somewhat difficult to find for less than retail price. I would look up the retail price for all. If you are definitely in the market then literally anything less than full price is a "good" deal.

I paid about $1000 for everything 5 years ago.

I would get the XL if I had to do it again but no regrets.

I have used the hell outta that thing, I have left it outside in the weather with no cover the whole time, I have never had to replace the gaskets, nothing.

I did have to replace the plate setter because I used to drop it on the lawn when it was hot and it shattered once. I had to replace the grate at the bottom once too.

You would love it.

Have had mine since '06 or '07 too, can't remember what year I got it one of those too. Good to know about the plate. I toss mine on the ground a lot too lol. I think it makes your food taste better the more you use it in the summertime. Really enjoy chicken and fish on it. Corn on the cob is great too. Best investment ever.

I've been thinking of getting one for years. The only thing stoping me is that I really like my stick burning cooker. If I was going to invest serious money I thought I'd get another one of those. I've always wondered if you got the same smokey flavor out of an egg. But this time of year I'd sacrifice a little flavor to be able to BBQ in the cold. Not even sure if that is a concern.

People at this event throw money around like crazy but now I know if its sitting under 1000 I'll make a run. It's a cause that she really believes in so the boss won't care about the money.

From what I can tell it comes with the most basic stand.
