Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
I don't play Video Poker, what does 100 percent payout mean?

I asked a bored video poker tech that question once.

If you see an IGT or VGT tech working on a machine, they are glad to talk to a regular joe, and they are a wealth of info if you act interested and ask insightful questions.
They don't have the keys to the kingdom type info, but you can read between the lines.

I was told 100% payout on video poker machines means "OVER the life of the machine" sooo...

I was standing near a brand new Pawn Star slot at Venetian and a tech was working on the opened guts of the one next to me. He confided to me that a "TON of the neat bonus round features were disabled"

Advised me where in Vegas where these same machines were and that I would find them "a lot more fun"

About that time a Venetian "Suit" showed up and asked me what I was doing. I simply said "Nothing" crossed my arms, stood my ground and continued watching the tech at work.
Figured he was going to call security, he didn't.

Playing slots on the strip, with rare exception, is giving your money away, IMHO.

On the subject of slots, video poker

On the subject of slots, video poker

Heading out next week for the winter.
I am an admitted sucker for video poker, first played them in 1972, when the Stardust had a decent NY strip and eggs for $1.99.

I plan on changing my tactics. Going to stay away from weekend play altogether.

There is no doubt in my mind, weekends are tighter play....all the out of town action, conventions.
This is Vegas gravy time.

Going to only play Downtown at my favorites The Cal and Main Street Station and some Local West Side Favorites...where tourists are a rare breed.

I plan on playing dead weekdays and evenings (Tuesday-Thursdays).

We will see how this works out.

Anyone have thoughts to share?

Beware my friends a lot of 6 to 5 payout for having blackjack is spreading like wildfire on The Strip. Just returned from there and its not posted on the table you play on but rather on the post yes the post of the illuminated sign on the side of the table. Play 3-2 payout and never 6-5.

I was at the TI last month and the only tables I saw that paid 6/5 were single deck, which has been the standard as long as I can remember. and you can double down on blackjack. if it's only paying 6/5 and the dealer is showing a 6, you better believe I'm doubling down.

I hadn't played a lot of video poker in the first couple years I had been in town, but that has all changed in the past couple months as I've gotten 'the bug..."

I have followed Dead Money's advice from when he was here last year about playing downtown and staying off the Strip~~which I do anyway, I hate the Strip~~unless friends or family are in town I stay far the fuck away from it....

So here is what I seem to find.

I play Double Double Bonus Poker which rewards you for hitting 4 of a kinds if you get an ace kicker or if you get aces with a 2, 3, or 4 kicker...4 aces with a kicker pays you 500 bucks and the 4 of a kinds with an ace kicker are 100 dollar payout/ vs the 62.50 you would get on most 4 of a kinds on Bonus Poker or plain Double Bonus Poker...you forfeit your 1.25 winners on two pair though which if you are gonna sit for a couple hours may be more beneficial in the long run.

Just like in Blackjack, there are rules to play if you want to reduce the house edge and if you play perfectly....not like my wife who just plays for 'fun'

I do look for the machines that have the 100% payout....they are usually set up at the entrances of the casinos...they will say 100% PAYOUT....

At Red Rock they have about 4-5 'banks' of these meaning 4-5 machines in a row. I find that the more people that are playing them, the more you will take back. I'm not sure if the banks are tied together or what, but I do notice being paid more often when the banks are full of players vs when I sit down by myself to play.

The machines are older downtown, and the only 100% payouts I've found are in the D, upstairs in their Retro room near the Cafe....I've played their once and broke even....and had to walk up with 2 containers of quarters for payout of 200 dollars....they don't pay you out via a ticket like the Strip casinos and Red Rock, they pay you out in quarters still!!!!

I also have played at Freemont Street and The California...the machines there are what I call the 45/30 machines meaning 9-1 for full house and 6-1 for flush (since I play the max 5 bet it comes out to 45/30)...I have had some good luck at Freemont Street, not so much at the Cal....

I have just discovered that the Sante Fe Station is 6 minutes from my house straight down Lone Mountain and they have 2 banks of 100 percent machines and about 4-5 banks of 99.8% which are the 45/30 machines....I have won both times I have been there and my wife went for the first time on Friday and hit for 200 on a 20 dollar entry....

If you are looking for comps, don't play the 100% machines because you have to risk $12 to get 1 point...normally comps are paid at 3-4 points for every dollar and most days if you sign in with your card you get jacked up to 6-7 points for every dollar...HOWEVER, here is what I've found....

If you use your rewards card, you don't get paid like you would without one....Before learning this (THANKS Dead Money), I would use my card in the 100% payouts machine....NEVER WON....NEVER...since I've stopped using it (and like I mentioned you'd have to bet the max coins 9.5 times to get 1 stinking point...1 point is worth 0.1 cent....get it??? I have 57,000 points at Red Rock...worth 57 bucks...:mj07:

I think the casino tracks your wins and if you are up and use your card, they get theirs back....however, when I don't use my card, I find I win more frequently...and here is another thing I was taught by DM and seems to hold true....If you cash out of a machine, go cash your ticket in and get CASH and reinsert into a machine. If you just reinsert the ticket, it sucks it down to nothing....they have payout kiosks all over the casino now so you don't have to find a cashier and wait in line. You just insert your ticket and it gives you cash...then you go back to your favorite machine or a new one and it seems like a new player has sit down and they want said new player to get that winning feeling if you catch my drift....don't get me wrong, I do use my card on occasion to let the casino know I was there, but only after I win some money. I will go put my card into a max point machine and play 20 bucks of my winnings to get some points and let the casino 'know I was there..."

I also play on non weekend nights and days....I find it harder to win on Fridays and Saturdays and do much better on Mondays-Thursdays....

I have a buddy who was an addict...I'd watch this kid pump in 400-500 a session. He would normally do OK, but man did he have a problem...he hit 17 royals in the course of a year (I have yet to hit one royal....so I'm due :mj07:,) but he would play every day and like I said it would be nothing for him to throw 300 into a machine on a Tuesday afternoon...he doesn't play anymore....went stone cold sober with life...no booze, drugs, or gambling...yawn....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.....why live in Sin City if you ain't gonna sin??

That's my 2 cents and now I've got the itch....

That old saying if it sits with its back to the wall and takes on all comers, your not going to make a living against it.

Meanwhile, at Horseshoe Cincinnati, the standard pay table on DDB, the game I prefer to play, is 9/5 with some 9/6 scattered around and ALL BJ tables pay 3/2.

It's the cleanest casino I have ever been to, no shit! Being non smoking probably has a lot to do with that.

PLUS, 2 days after I left I got an email saying that I was awarded $225 in FREE SLOT PLAY. VP qualifies.

I'm like 90% that I'm heading over there in a few hours to cash in my $225 FREE PLAY and see if I can make a few bucks and catch the 3:30 games in the Margaritaville Bar and get me the $15 bud light bucket and a New York Dog.

The more I type the higher the percentage is of me going today.
