Initially underwhelmed, guess that means expectations won't be tough to be met. The AD in his firing of Pelini stated he didn't win the "games that mattered", and I agree with that. What games that have mattered has Mike Riley won? No conference championships, no major bowls, just like Pelini. I realize he was at Oregon State and the resources and facilities aren't like Nebraska, and realize all the media is stating its a great hire and that Riley is a great, nice guy. Fine and dandy just doesn't give me the warm and fuzzy feeling. Pelini did a good job of getting Nebraska out of the rut Callahan produced (many would argue that wasn't tough to do), but reached his ceiling. I just see no indication that Mike Riley is the guy to get Nebraska over the hump so to speak to being relevant on the national scene again (heck even the conference scene).
Heard a rumor about trying to get Scott Frost as the Offensive Coordinator and be a Head Coach in Waiting type thing. That would be an interesting move and would make me view it differently, just not sure if that is plausible.
