Apparently this is the short list of candidates to fill Bo Pelini's job at Nebraska per the World-Herald facebook page.
Scott Frost: The 39-year-old quarterback of Nebraska?s 1997 national title team is bright and connected and has climbed the ladder from graduate assistant at Kansas State. His polish and goals would fit Eichorst?s model, Big Red Today's Lee Barknecht writes. But is Frost ready for his first head coaching job after just two years as Oregon?s offensive coordinator? Calling plays for a Heisman-caliber quarterback isn?t exactly hazardous duty. Dirk Chatelain thinks there?s a 50-50 chance that Frost is Nebraska?s head coach someday. But this may not be his time. He's young and has good history in the program when he played and finished school there, he also relates to players well and has contacts throughout the country as far as recruiting goes.
>> Joe Moglia: No doubt the guy can lead an organization. But he?s 65 years old and a good friend of Pelini. NOT! A friend of Bo's? They just got rid of Bo!! LOL
>> Craig Bohl: Ordinarily, he?d definitely be a candidate. But it?s a hard sell for a fan base that ran him out in 2002. NO WAY!
>> Jim McElwain: A man with a broad range of experience (including work in the NFL, the Big Ten and the SEC), he?s quickly rebuilt Colorado State. . But Yahoo Sports reports that Florida is nearing a deal with McElwain to be its new head coach. He's in discussions with Florida
>> Mark Richt: His family is from Omaha. He?s a former Husker fan. And the Georgia coach could benefit from a new start. He ain't leaving Athens anytime soon.
>> Jerry Kill: By all accounts, the Minnesota coach man knows how to build a program. But health concerns are probably a deal-breaker, Chatelain thinks. Health with it, his coaches run Minnesota program.
>> Willie Fritz: Fritz, 54, is in his first season at Georgia Southern. The FBS newcomer won the Sun Belt Conference title. On his way to that school, Fritz won two national titles at Blinn (Texas) Junior College, took Central Missouri State to its first Division II playoff game in 32 years and coached in back-to-back FCS national title games at Sam Houston State. Fritz is from suburban Kansas City and played at Pittsburg State in Kansas. He's a developer of talent and endless worker, he could be a dark horse candidate, but think he's after something better in the SEC or Big 12. Kansas talking to him as well as Doeren of N C State currently.
>> Rich Rodriguez: Didn?t work at Michigan, but that appears to be more of a Michigan problem ? he's having some success at Arizona. Dream on Nebraska, he's not leaving Arizona
>> Gary Patterson: For pure coaching ability, it?s hard to beat this guy. Chatelain doubts he?d leave TCU. This guy didn't even sniff at A&M and Texas when they had openings!
>> Jim Mora: He?s built a heck of a program at UCLA. But if he leaves, it?s probably for the NFL again. He ain't going to Nebraska and leave Cali? LOL
>> Greg Schiano: He wants to coach. He's pretty good at it ? at least he was at Rutgers. But others will be interested, too. Potential candidate, he'd be great to bring in recruits from Jersey area, but it's a big country he needs to recruit from and doubtful he can get those kids from warm weather states that migrate to Nebraska on occasion so they don't have to sit the bench in the SEC or Big12
>> Pat Fitzgerald: He is Mr. Positive, he?s all about academics and the Big Ten mission, and he has done a whole lot in this league with a whole lot less than anyone else. Maybe the Northwestern coach wants to be at a school that really cares about football. If this guy was so good, why don't his teams finish above 500 each year? Over-rated!
>> David Shaw: He?s a Stanford alumnus. He?s a West Coast guy through and through. But man, if you?re gonna throw $5 million at somebody, he?d be a coup. His style would thrive in the Big Ten. This guy has rested on the coattails of what Harbaugh built, let's see how good his recruiting classes do next year and the year after.
>> Pat Narduzzi: He?s kind of the Bo Pelini of 2007. Brilliant coach, no executive experience at any level. He?s 48 and the defensive coordinator at Michigan State. As of Sunday, the Spartan folks say Nebraska hasn't been in touch. Another Pelini? They just got rid of him!!
>> Tom Herman: At 39, he?s smart enough to call Urban Meyer?s plays. Like Narduzzi, he?ll get an FBS job this offseason if he wants one. In addition to being the Buckeyes' offensive coordinator, he's the quarterbacks coach. He's not leaving Urban's side for a while.
>> Kirby Smart: As Nick Saban?s defensive coordinator since 2008, he?ll get his head coaching chance soon. But he?s an SEC guy and it might not be a good fit. Ya right!! He's not even close to being a HC
>> Jim Tressel: His show-cause penalty expires in December 2016. The 61-year-old former Ohio State coach was forced to resign in 2011 for multiple NCAA violations and an ensuing coverup. One report says it's not happening, and his agent told The World-Herald there has been no contact between the two parties. His agent I know already said Nebraska has NOT been in contact, which means they are not even considering Tressel.
>> Justin Fuente: He was an Oklahoma quarterback in the mid-90's, so he knows a little about NU. He?s only 38, but he?s 9-3 at Memphis this year after two rebuilding years. On Monday, Fuente said it'd take something "pretty special" for him to consider a change of scenery. Plus, he may receive a contract extension instead. This guy is a rising star, but he's not going to go to Nebraska when he's built Memphis from scratch all over again.
>> Chuck Martin: He won two Division II national championships at Grand Valley State. He coordinated Brian Kelly?s offense in the national championship game in 2012. He?s one year in at Miami (Ohio). He's not ready for Nebraska
>> Mark Hudspeth: He's 100-37 in 11 years at Louisiana Lafayette (and North Alabama before that). May be a better fit in SEC country, though. Over-rated as well.
>> Mark Stoops: He?s 5-6 at Kentucky, which is like 9-3 at Nebraska. But another Youngstown defensive guru? Doubtful, Chatelain says. He needs to stay in Big Blue country.
>> The Utah guys: Barry Alvarez found his coach, Gary Andersen, in the state of Utah, maybe Eichorst will, too. Bronco Mendenhall (BYU) and Kyle Whittingham (Utah) just completed their 10th seasons. Both have won a lot of games. They ain't gonna leave their Latter Day Saints ways to come to Lincoln Nebraska.
>> Paul Chryst: The golden boy on Wisconsin?s staff called plays in Madison from 2005 to '11. Here?s the problem: Pitt is 18-19 in Chryst?s two years. It?d be a hard sell to Nebraska fans. NOT! He's over-rated as well.
>> Dave Doeren: He?s 42. He?s from the Midwest. He was Bret Bielema?s defensive coordinator at Wisconsin. He?s also 9-14 in two years at N.C. State. This guy will be at Kansas and lose there too.
>> Al Golden: He?s handled the Shapiro case admirably. But he hasn?t won many games at Miami. This guy turned down Penn St and Pitt jobs, you think he wants to leave South Beach?
>> Bret Bielema: Bielema burned Barry Alvarez. And he's succeeding with Arkansas in the SEC. Hard to believe he'd jump back to the Big Ten. He already told people today he is a HOG!
>> Steve Addazio: He has Boston College headed in the right direction, Athlon Sports says. He's got a better job at BC
>> Troy Calhoun: A familiarity with the option attack and a deep bowl history have Air Force's Calhoun in contention. Another dark horse, he could recruit and utilize the schollys Nebraska has, but he's not a big time guy, he did well at the academy, that's where he belongs.
>> Mike Gundy: Gundy has done well at his alma mater, but Athlon points to reports of friction in listing the Oklahoma State coach. This guy is another guy thinking he's better than he is. No thanks!
>> Dan Mullen: Sporting News lists Mullen as an option, noting the Mississippi State coach "isn?t that far away from a tenuous win or walk season of 2013." Dream on Nebraska
>> Hugh Freeze: Another Sporting News pick, Nebraska likely would have competition from Florida ? and his current school, Ole Miss. Re-signed with Ole Miss, he ain't going anywhere.
>> Turner Gill: The former star Nebraska quarterback and Husker assistant was fired at Kansas after two years and a combined record of 5-19 overall and 1-16 in Big 12 play, but he succeeded at Buffalo and, as Sporting News notes, Gill "has Liberty in the FCS playoffs ? and its first playoff game in program history was an upset of FCS heavyweight James Madison in the first round." He'd be a good OC for Nebraska, he had a short shot at KU and got punted!
>> Matt Wells: Sporting News notes that Utah State's offense-oriented coach (who took over at his alma mater after Gary Andersen left for Wisconsin) has thrived using the spread option. He's also been listed as a possible candidate by USA Today, but it's worth noting that he's a first-time head coach. This guys still living on what G C built there before leaving to go to Wiskyville.
>> David Cutcliffe: Athlon Sports singles out Duke's head coach, who was the 2013 National Coach of the Year. He has previously been named both the ACC and SEC Coach of the Year, and has previously coached at Ole Miss and was a high-level assistant with Tennessee and Notre Dame. He has a career coaching record of 84?76. It's possible, but he already has a better job and in a better conference for his style of coaching.
>> Dave Aranda: Athlon notes that Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst has ties to Wisconsin from a stint under Barry Alvarez in 2006-11, and that the Badgers allowed a Big Ten-low 16.8 points per game under the UW defensive coordinator in 2014. NO WAY!
>> Brent Venables: Another Athlon pick, Clemson's defensive coordinator spent time in the Midwest at Kansas State both as a coach (1993-98) and as a player (1991-1992). The Tigers defense led the nation in fewest yards allowed per game (259.6). On moving onto a head coaching job, he told The State "Yeah, I'm a be here now guy. I'm getting ready to go and hug my wife and be with some of these players and recruits. That's how I've always been." Another dreamer!! He's not a HC!
>> Paul Johnson: The Georgia Tech head man runs a triple-option offense, but is he the right fit after one ACC title and one bowl win in his seven seasons with the Yellow Jackets? He was offered a contract extension to possibly help ward off other suitors. Doubtful he'd leave the south, he was at better jobs when Nebraska fired Callahan and Solich before, he ain't going anywhere.
>> Lane Kiffin: The Alabama offensive coordinator was fired from Southern California after last season. But he does have ties to Nebraska. He was born in Lincoln and his father, Monte, was a Husker player and assistant. YOU GOTTA BE FOCKING KIDDING ME TO BRING HIS NAME up CHATELAIN! You idiot!!
Anyone have any idea of solid candidates for the program? Maybe Tom Osborne will come back like Snyder did at K State? :mj07:
