So I guess the name didn't bother him until it became a hot button topic

He's a clown

I think what pisses people off the most isn't his opinion

It's that he pontificates every frigging halftime on a stage where people aren't in the mood

I just avoid him altogether because no matter if I agree or disagree with him, It's not the time or place

It's Sunday night football

Not sports reporters

100% SPOT ON :toast:

Thankfully, I didn't watch the HT show, and I am trying to avoid the discussion, but it's everywhere. I hate chiming in on these things, but the above were my thoughts exactly.

Bob Costas has been a sports broadcaster for 30+ years and only now has he decided to come forward. I call BS, he's just hopping on the bandwagon. total phony and douche. JMO

He probably just got done blowing Obama and this came to his head!

When you're an overrated has been and need a ratings boost you come up with maniacal shit like this.

Sooo pointing out that most of the people who are supposedly being "offended" really don't give a shit isn't a valid argument?

Lets be honest. You can't make this statement without looking foolish. How would it be possible to even come to this conclusion? C'mon guys.

A lot of the polls being conducted haven't exactly been thorough.

I'll give the guy credit for having the balls to speak his mind on a controversial matter. Agree or disagree with him but calling him a douche for speaking his mind is absolutely ridiculous.

I called him a phony and a douche for hopping on the bandwagon when the issue got hot, not for speaking his mind. You see the difference?

We're talking NBC, the station of DoucheBags.

I don't know, I kinda feel like people hop on 'idea bandwagons' more often frequently than they maintain one belief continuously since conception.

While I agree this sort of segment seems opportunistic, but I don?t really hold it against Costas for picking this side of the fence, now.
If anything he presents a closer representation of our nations conscience than someone who has championed a Redskins name change for decades (if such a person even exists?) Most of us probably haven?t been huge opponents of using the term Redskins, but given the issue framed in such a way as to explain why it might be harmful or tacky or lacking in class or historical perspective a lot of us might ?come around? to that side. A lot won?t, as this thread demonstrates.
For that reason alone, I am glad he did what he did. Now I am sure these aren?t impromptu musings by Costas done unknowingly to NBC Sports, it?s probably well planned out in advance, so I am not giving him a bunch of credit for being some quasi martyr for this cause. And if he came off as a sanctimonious early adopter to a lot of people, then yeah I can see why they are calling him a ?douche?. But I maintain that getting us to talk about this stuff is worth the momentary discomfort from being taken out of our sports induced coma. I think it?s the PERFECT time for that sort of thing to be mentioned.

PS I don?t have a strong opinion about the team name, but I just like hearing people talk about why they think what they think without digging their heels into a side of an issue like we so often do with politics; i.e. it?s ok to change your mind from time to time.
