Toronto is just 1-8 on the road this season, but has won 4 of 6 at home. The Raptors' play five of the next six away OTR. Brutal schedule deep into December, then it gets easier. They are a good home team. Even so, they have not been too bad at being competitive. Have covered 6 of last 8 games. They will be playing b2b again, going to NY tomorrow.
The sick thing is that Boston @ 5-9 are just a half point out of 1st in the Atlantic Division and the sicker thing is that the Raps are just a game out and could be in 1st place by Sunday if they beat the Celtics and the Knicks. Boston has a very young team that is up and coming, just like the Raps, and the two teams match up well.
Pierce will gets his poiints and Szczerbiak will hold up his end. Celtics lead the league in 3-pt field goal percentage with .387 so shots outside the arc may make a difference for them.
Bottom line for me is this. I think that in the Atlantic the Raps are a bit better than the Celtics and the Knicks, not better than the Nets, who are better than average. The Raptors are at home (which in the NBA is worth a few points for sure) and need this win badly before hitting the road again. Coming off that Dallas loss should set up some good effort for this game. If the game was in Boston, I would give the 2? pts and take the Celtics. They are that close and home court is that important for these teams.
That is some of the background for this pick. Don't like to lay pts with teams like this, would rather lay the modest juice.
Btw...I'm not playing these games as a fan or homer. It's true that I got interested in the Raptors once Bryan Colangelo came to Toronto from Phoenix and started bringing in an international flavor to the team. But really this is just an experiment to see if a narrower focus helps my betting judgment. Only time will tell.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US TONITE!!
