Toronto is just 1-8 on the road this season, but has won 4 of 6 at home. The Raptors' play five of the next six away OTR. Brutal schedule deep into December, then it gets easier. They are a good home team. Even so, they have not been too bad at being competitive. Have covered 6 of last 8 games. They will be playing b2b again, going to NY tomorrow.

The sick thing is that Boston @ 5-9 are just a half point out of 1st in the Atlantic Division and the sicker thing is that the Raps are just a game out and could be in 1st place by Sunday if they beat the Celtics and the Knicks. Boston has a very young team that is up and coming, just like the Raps, and the two teams match up well.

Pierce will gets his poiints and Szczerbiak will hold up his end. Celtics lead the league in 3-pt field goal percentage with .387 so shots outside the arc may make a difference for them.

Bottom line for me is this. I think that in the Atlantic the Raps are a bit better than the Celtics and the Knicks, not better than the Nets, who are better than average. The Raptors are at home (which in the NBA is worth a few points for sure) and need this win badly before hitting the road again. Coming off that Dallas loss should set up some good effort for this game. If the game was in Boston, I would give the 2? pts and take the Celtics. They are that close and home court is that important for these teams.

That is some of the background for this pick. Don't like to lay pts with teams like this, would rather lay the modest juice.

Btw...I'm not playing these games as a fan or homer. It's true that I got interested in the Raptors once Bryan Colangelo came to Toronto from Phoenix and started bringing in an international flavor to the team. But really this is just an experiment to see if a narrower focus helps my betting judgment. Only time will tell.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US TONITE!!

Raptors pk -136

Revenge factor for Raps who got embarrassed by Boston last year near the end of the season, at home...

Perhaps for a couple of the players, tho last year was a total embarrassment from start to finish. And this is a really really different team...think these guys are looking ahead rather than behind. The radical recontruction is not over yet, either...always worth considering these ideas, tho. Thanks for the input, lohengrin.

No problem, and good luck with your bet.

I am from Toronto and was optimistic in the off-season when we brought in Colangelo and I saw what he was planning on doing with the Raptors. However, it has been frustrating so far trying to play a run-and-gun style offense with no skilled shooters, save Mo Pete, who can't shoot in transition to save his life mind you. Hopefully they stick to Ford / Bosh for their offense and not rely on the outside shooting of the imports. Nevertheless, there have been some good signs as of late. Bargnani is showing alot of improvement and I love Calderon off the bench...perhaps Mitchell isn't the answer. Anyways, here's to hoping they can learn how to play some defense and give the ball to CB4 every posession they have. :142smilie

Well Raps looking good in the first half. They've been totally dominating since midway through the 2nd. Boston has no leadership out there, Telfair's throwing the ball around everyone and it looks like Pierce decided to take this one off. Raps should be a good 2h play at home...but then again this is the NBA...
