Georgia

Definately save the hammer for Georgia as the Badgers were one of the most over rated teams in America this season. Everyone's just looking at Alvarez's bowl record during his tenure at Wisconsin. Joe De just wondering on the reasons for UAB on Saturday. Thanks in advance.

Joede,

I have absolute faith that you will be on the plus side, just hammered Navy over and Georgia.

Rint,

Still undecided at this point, I was focusing more on the late bowl game but I should have a play up on the Forth Worth Bowl soon.

Passing on the Fort Worth Bowl as I really cant get any good info that is reliable on the game. Tough to call this game as who knows how solid Gino will be tonight coming back from a injury in cold weather. On the Marshall side they lose perhaps their top defensive player which could create some open lanes for the Cats running game. I feel that Cincy is by far the better team when they are completely healthy but I still have visions of the backup QB for the Cats playing against Louisville and if Gino goes down tonight then the Cats are done.

Las Vegas Bowl
Over 56.5 is my play. Bruins should win this one outright if they feel motivated to play but this team has had a tendency to come out flat and uninterested when they are not motivated. Wyoming has a seasoned offense but they go up against a PAC 10 team and Wyo has not covered against a Pac 10 team in the past twelve years but UCLA is undefeated against the spread against MWC teams in the same time period.

thanks Kdogg, hope you and your loved ones have a great holiday!

UCLA could be one of the best 2nd half plays if they are down double digits at half. Typical soft PAC 10 team soft defense but should out athlete Wyom in the 2nd half.

The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) unveiled its four college football matchups on Sunday. To no surprise, No. 1 USC will face No. 2 Oklahoma for the national championship in the Orange Bowl. Third-ranked Auburn was sent to the Sugar Bowl, where it will face the ACC champion, Virginia Tech. The mid-major conferences finally got their due, as Utah earned an at-large bid to the Fiesta Bowl. The Utes will face the Big East champion, Pittsburgh. Also, Texas jumped over California to earn its first trip to the Rose Bowl. The Longhorns will face Michigan, who won the Big Ten Title.

Most critics will continue to knock the BCS system and point out flaws from all angles. Still, the system was created to put No. 1 against No. 2 and that?s exactly what we got.

Okay, so how do we go about playing this year?s games? There have been 24 BCS games since its inception in 1998. The favorites are 15-9 straight up and 13-11 against the spread. The number could be worse, but the underdogs rallied with a 3-1 both SU and ATS mark last season.

If you?re going to play underdogs in the BCS, then history shows that you should play them on the money-line. The ?dog has won the game outright nine out of 11 times when covering the number. The only two underdogs that have lost and still covered the number are Stanford (+14) in 1999 and Texas A&M (+13 ?) in 1998.

Also, if you?re looking for a close game or a classic battle, then the BCS may not be your cup of tea. Only 25 percent (6) of the 24 games have been decided by single-digits. Eighteen victories have come by double-digits.

Speaking of double-digits, Utah is tabbed a 15-point favorite against Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl. Can you believe that the 15-point line still isn?t the highest? Florida destroyed Maryland 56-23 in the Orange Bowl as a 15 1/2-point favorite in the 2000 season. I wouldn?t be surprised to see the Utes get banged to 16 or 17-point favorites, considering Urban Meyer?s team owns an impressive 11-0 SU and 9-2 ATS mark. I wouldn?t bet against Pittsburgh just yet, considering the favorites are 3-2 SU, but only 1-4 ATS as double-digits in BCS games.

Let?s take a closer look at all of the matchups:

2004

Orange: USC (-3) vs. Oklahoma

Sugar: Auburn (-7) vs. Virginia Tech

Rose: Texas (-7) vs. Michigan

Fiesta: Utah (-15 ?) vs. Pittsburgh

2003

Sugar: LSU (+6.5) 21 Oklahoma 14
Orange: Miami (+2) 16 Florida State 14
Rose: USC (-7) 28 Michigan 14
Fiesta: Ohio State (+7) 35 Kansas State 28

Comments: The underdogs were an impressive 3-1 both SU and ATS in 2003, including LSU unseating Oklahoma for the national championship. Three of the four games stayed ?under? the total.

2002

Fiesta: Ohio State (+12) 31 Miami 24 OT
Sugar: Georgia (-8) 26 Florida State 13
Orange: USC (-6) 38 Iowa 17
Rose: Oklahoma (-6 ?) 34 Washington State 14

Comments: The favorites were 3-1 both SU and ATS, winning all three games by double-digits. Ohio State pulled off the biggest BCS upset by defeating Miami 31-24 as a 12-point live underdog.

2001

Rose: Miami (-8 ?) 37 Nebraska 14
Fiesta: Oregon (+3) 38 Colorado 16
Sugar: LSU (-2) 47 Illinois 34
Orange: Florida (-15 ?) 56 Maryland 23

Comments: The favorites were 3-1 both SU and ATS. All four games were blowouts, with average margin of victory coming by 22.8 PPG.

2000

Orange: Oklahoma (+10) 13 Florida State 2
Sugar: Miami (-7) 37 Florida 20
Rose: Washington (-3) 34 Purdue 24
Fiesta: Oregon State (-4) 41Notre Dame 9

Comments: Four double-digit victories in the 2000 season. The favorites were 3-1 both SU and ATS.

1999

Sugar: Florida State (-6) 46 Virginia Tech 29
Fiesta: Nebraska (-4) 31 Tennessee 21
Orange: Michigan (+1) 35 Alabama 34
Rose: Wisconsin (-14) 17 Stanford 9

Comments: The favorites were 3-1 SU, but 2-2 ATS. Florida State captured the national title in a great Sugar Bowl against Virginia Tech and some guy named Michael Vick.

1998

Fiesta: Tennessee (+5.5) 23 Florida State 16
Orange: Florida (-7) 31 Syracuse 10
Sugar: Ohio State (-13 ?) 24 Texas A&M 14
Rose: Wisconsin (+9) 38 UCLA 31

Toledo may be a good 2nd half play depending on where the line comes out but it is quite apparant that Gradkowski is having problems gripping the ball and his throws are high from not putting pressure on the ball at release. Toledo's defense is a typical MAC defense very soft in the interior and undersized just enough to have trouble tackiling. Toledo clearly misses the big plays that McDougle was able to deliver for them as Dawson is just a average back. Look for Toledo to be in four downs the whose 2nd half but you have to ask yourself if Gradowski will even be much of a factor due to the hand injury but Toledo has been one of the better 2nd half teams this year

Gridiron,

No OSU is not a play at this point but I should have something up by 3 this afternoon.

–Ohio State (7-4 straight up, 6-5 against the spread) takes the field without starting quarterback Troy Smith, who has been suspended. Justin Zwick will get the starting assignment against Oklahoma State. Zwick finished the season by completing 51 percent of his passes (81-of-160) for 1,020 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions.

–The Buckeyes wrapped up their regular season by beating arch-rival Michigan as a four-point home underdog, 37-21. The combined 58 points soared ‘over’ the 43-point closing total.

–Ohio State broke open the close contest with a 14-0 scoring advantage in the third quarter. The Buckeyes led the Wolverines in rushing yards (205-71) and time of possession (34:16-25:44), while also recording a pair of interceptions.

–Smith led the team by completing 13-of-23 passes for 241 yards with two touchdowns, while running 18 times for 145 yards and a score. Ted Ginn Jr. had five receptions for 87 yards, and had a key punt return for 82 yards and a touchdown.

–Oklahoma State (7-4 both SU and ATS) finished the regular season 1-3 SU and 2-2 ATS its last four games after falling to Texas Tech as a 4 1/2-point road underdog, 31-15. The combined 46 points never seriously threatened the 68-point closing total, ending back-to-back ‘over’ outings for the Cowboys.

–Oklahoma State entered the fourth quarter with a slim 15-14 advantage before being outscored 17-0 in the final frame. The Cowboys finished the game on the short end of first downs (27-14), passing yards (281-66) and time of possession (32:52-27:08).

–Running back Vernand Morency paced the ground game with 23 carries for 108 yards, while quarterback Donovan Woods was 6-of-9 passing for 60 yards. Oklahoma State’s only touchdown occurred in the third quarter when Jamie Thompson returned an interception 68 yards.

–The Buckeyes and Cowboys have not played each other the previous few seasons, and have no common opponents this year.

–Oklahoma State defensive tackle Brad Girtman and cornerback Darrent Williams are expected to miss the Alamo Bowl due to team suspensions.
