Broncos Send Cutler To Chicago

Posted by Mike Florio on April 2, 2009, 5:16 p.m. EDT

At a time when the tea leaves were pointing to a trade that would have sent quarterback Jay Cutler from the Broncos to the Redskins, NFL.com reports that the Broncos have announced that Cutler has been traded to the Bears.

As of this posting, there?s no story ? just a headline.

pretty high price, but given angelo's history of 1st round picks he probably would have screwed up the 18th pick this year also...

think the positives outweigh the negatives..should be fun to watch him and hester..

I'm sorry but Cutler is not worth 2 1st round draft picks. Agree that the Bears need a QB, but that's a huge pricetag for him. If he tanks there, they will be bad for years.

i think the bears gave up too much...also it will be interesting to see if denver goes after sanchez...& what mcdaniel does with orton...

here is the deal....

Cutler has been traded to the Chicago Bears for two first-round picks, a third-round pick and quarterback Kyle Orton, FOXSports.com has learned.

Denver will receive Chicago's first- and third-round pick in this year's draft, and Chicago's first-round pick in 2010, along with Orton. The Bears get Cutler and the Broncos' fifth-round pick this year.

They didnt give up too much. There ar epeople who dislike Cutler personally, but in terms of value the Bears if anything underpaid.

Denver better find a way to trade up - Orton and Simms at QB is no future at all.

i think orton has potential with the right system...so think he may be the sleeper in this trade...but do think denver will go after sanchez in the draft....

Just talked to a friend in Denver who is close to the Broncos situation. Denver is thrilled obtaining a couple 1st round picks for Cutler who was going to be traded for sure. Denver is focused on rebuilding their defense according to my buddy.

Cutler has a great arm and the deal looks good for both teams IMHO. Denver is already stacked at WR as Marshall is one of the top 5 in the NFL IMO plus Royal is a star in the making. Denver will probably start Orton or Simms and hope for the best.

My Chiefs are suddenly looking more dangerous in the AFC Worst with Cassel arguably the best QB and Thigpen a solid backup. I know Rivers is more polished and seasoned, but he still coughs up at least 2 games each year with shtoopid mistakes.

In a team-issued statement Tuesday, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said his attempts and those by McDaniels to reach Cutler for the past 10 days were "unsuccessful."

"A conversation with his agent earlier (Tuesday) clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Broncos," Bowlen said. "We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded."

However on Wednesday, in an exclusive interview with FOXSports.com, Cutler refuted many of the team's characterizations, saying it was the Broncos who had not contacted him.

"I didn't want to get traded," Cutler told FOXSports.com. "This wasn't me. (The Broncos) had been going back and forth saying things, wanting me to be their quarterback and then they didn't. I really didn't want this. I love Denver. I really like my teammates. I didn't want it to get this far
...........................................................

Cutler really is a big crybaby.

sure can pass though

it's NEVER too much when you give up picks for a PRO BOWL player, especially at the QB position when your team hasnt really had a qb for 50 years and given the track record of your gm's draft ability in the first round.

let's say the bears make the playoffs...

they've traded 2009 #18 + third rounder + 2010 #24ish and orton for an established top 10 25 year old qb AND a 5th round pick

what have you given up???

the 5th and the 3rd almost offset

orton isnt needed and has 1 year left on his contract

cutler for #18 + #25 next year......call me in april 2010 and let me know what this trade looks like and i'll almost guarantee the bears are getting the better end of it already.

boy are you really stretching it....i guess it's wishful thinking as a bears fan....but there is about a 70 player difference between the 3rd & 5th round picks...that's a big gap in talent.....and i will repeat again that nobody should underestimate what mcdaniels will have orton do this year with 2 very good young wide-receivers (marshall & royal) as compared to what chicago has on the outside....but with all of that said...i think chicago had to make the deal for various reasons...

1- 3rd rounder
2- 1st rounders

for cutler and a 5th rounder???

:sadwave:

a couple of years ago the giants gave up, i think more for eli than what the bears gave up for cutler...& eli hadn't played in the nfl yet....it just shows how much importance teams put on franchise qbs....

exactly

the obsession with draft picks is sickening when your trading for a young, proven player....esp at the quarterback position.

if i remember correctly, the saints gave up and entire draft for a running back...ricky williams....and the queens virturally gave up as much for another running back in herschel walker.

those types of picks for a running back? no way
for a quarterback? absolutely
