Update at 4:52 p.m.: The National Weather Service has reported that one part of Cheektowaga, N.Y., has accumulated 51 inches of snow thus far, while on the other side of town, only two inches has been measured, illustrating the incredible snowfall gradient that the Buffalo area is experiencing today.

Other notable totals include 48 inches in Alden, 46 inches in Elma, and 45 inches in West Seneca, all in the state of New York.

What the hell do you do in this situation? I'm being very serious. Do people stay home or do you try to clear that out? If not all of the city got that much then I'm assuming most businesses would be open but if you have this outside of your garage can you really do anything about it.

That almost gives me claustrophobia. If that were me I'd have been out there every 30-60 minutes clearing the driveway. I don't know what I would do otherwise. That is too much for a blower or even a truck with a plow. How could anyone shovel that much heavy snow by hand?

Good money maker for anyone who has a skidder. That's what they do around here when we get that much- not that we hardly ever do but they are out in full force when it happens.

They can start clearing that out but they will be staying home., Quite sure the roadways are all screwed up and where would you go to? Places are shut down, just have to hope you are stocked up. Need a snow mobile for that.

We have had snow up here but nothing, nothing like that and it's not even Thanksgiving. Damn

Driving ban so they can try to clear main routes. People just getting off thruway that were stranded all night. Ralph Wilson stadium under a blanket of snow. Game with jets sun. More snow tonight and 40's and 50 degree temps. for the weekend. Flooding big problem then. Storm band just sat there flowing up Lake Erie all day. 4 and 5 feet reported in some spots.
