That link shows a few of the many alarming Human Rights abuses going on under Chavez. Even if some of his comments are supported by the rest of the world, he makes a poor spokesman for justice.

It's easy to be popular when you stifle free speach in your homeland.

This guy is a dick, no matter who supports him.

Ozzie Guillen could be the president of Venezuela; give a 2 hour press conference, and say fewer retarded things.

ImFeklhr Thanks was interesting.

Smurph I agree 100% on Chads redcards. While we are often on diff ends of spectrum he always makes effort to back any subjects or opinions with supporting data. In my view he is one of top contributers to this forum. He would be one of very last I would give redcard to (if I knew how):)

gardenweasel,

You didn't answer the question about Bush. Instead you tried to obscufate ;) the question by bringing up the fact that many in the Muslim world hate Clinton (which they do). Answer the question.

You bring up many things that are true (and some that are misleading to say the least), but the bottom line is that within Iran's constitution, Ahmadenijad was popularly elected. Now, that constitution may include severe restrictions on the press and media that we don't have, but it was an open and fair vote in the final round of elections.

Really, this whole argument is silly. My original point was that America needs to either drop this whole "Spreading Democracy" marketing ploy or really start backing democratically elected leaders. Even if you throw out Ahmadenijad because of the fact that Iran is a theocracy, it still makes us look like hypocrites when we vehemently oppose Chavez, Hamas and Hezbollah when they get democratically elected.

If our policy to the world is that we only support friendly democratically elected leaders, then that is fine with me. Just don't expect people around the world to be dumb enough to believe it when we say that our main goal is the spread of democracy.

"the bunker"
like the shah of iran or not...if you recall,he was removed via a coup..and they took a few american hostages,if i recall.... ..

it`s been "mullah-ville" ever since...

was he a western puppet?...probably.....

would iran be better off if he were still there...yeah,i`d say, probably...they`d certainly be more westernized....more contemporary...

thank you jimmy carter...

but, back to the point...can you really argue that candidates screened by a few islamic clerics...and presented as legit by the theocracy...constitutes a democracy?.... given the human rights abuses and the stranglehold of the mullahs on the whole process?....

i mean, even if khatami wanted to reform,he has no real authority...it`s a sham....

an analogy.....if jimmy swaggart, oral roberts and jerry falwell screened all the presidential candidates, would YOU call this a democracy?...i don`t think so....

what was the "bush" question?...

We should not support undemocratic leaders in Iran and Venezuela

We should not support undemocratic leaders in Iran and Venezuela

Democracy is a process, not just an election or two. If the people vote someone in office who
changes or rigs the electoral system so that the necessary elements of democracy (such as being able to vote for whom you want, and independent judicial review) are eliminated or never created----then this "democratically" elected leader is not a leader of a democracy.

Most folks in the world who think beyond the "spreading democracy" slogans know this.
Many in Iran and Venezuela yell about it all the time.
Bush points it out too when he speaks of more details in his push for democracy:

"Today, Iran is ruled by men who suppress liberty at home and spread terror across the world. Power is in the hands of an unelected few who have retained power through an electoral process that ignores the basic requirements of democracy."

Iranian Nobel Peace prize winner Shirin Ebadi has written and lectured extensively on this. For example:

" Democracy means the majority rule, but a majority that gains power does not have the permission to work in whatever manner it decides. Many dictators were actually elected to power as such, too, including Hitler. Democracy has a framework that must be observed, meaning that a government that reaches power through free elections cannot actually go beyond that framework in its political activities. .."

Damn straight! Right on all counts. ....How the hell did you get a red card? I can't live in a society where Chadman gets red-carded.

I honestly don't have any idea why I received one, smurph. Anyone know why? I e-mailed Jack...don't remember any issues. Oh well.

Oh man, Sponge you are so lame. You spend ALL your time in this forum bitching about Bush and calling others names. The only "winners" you post are in this forum when you try to act like you know what your talking about. You were like 3-1 last time i checked on your handicapping. Which was a week ago after you attacked me. You are not an attorney, your time is not worth anything, you are not a skilled handicapper. I would bet alot of money on all these facts.
You luckily dont open your mouth in any of the handicapping forums because Jack would ban you in an instant, instead you insult others in politics and general forums, and will be banned one day soon.

You would lose your money except for this attorney thing you brought up. I now said i was an attorney? And who are you anyway? One of those guys that runs to monitors? I only attack people who can't think for themselves and need certain right wing press to think for them. NOw go run to jack i bet you are good at this. Funny thing clown is that i attack weasal on plenty occasions but i go talk some boxing with him and i think he is kinda funny. I can seperate this forum from the others. And weasal dont get a big head because i still don't understand half the stuff you post. Oh and by the way weasal has called me a two year old. three year old and now 5 year old. I still havent written to Jack because of my feelings were not hurt that bad. I will say this tho i am gonna tone it down a few notches. It is starting to affect my capping abilities.

Dog i call a spade a spade and when Clinton signed Nafta i was furious. Now by reading your post i see nobody on the right has the guts to listen to what he said but all have the finger waving entrench in their thick head because this is the right wing talking point for the day. I will say this tho i only saw part of it and i loved that he was in attack mode like the sponger. Maybe he is reading these post and taking some tips from me.J/K
What i got out of this the most is how he basically was saying what a crock of shit this far and balance station is that is always leaning heavily to the right. Some day the Dems will figure it out but i will be dead by then. Every once in a while a rare gem comes out of the South and my boy as you say was one of them. With all the attacks on him by the right during his administration he still got the job done and did it well. Eight months your boy was in office and he did nothing about Bin Laden. Aug 6th he got a memo "Bin Laden ready to attack" and did nothing. Your Boy has disgraced us all over the world. My Boy disgraced his wife with a blow job because he is weak in the sexual area just like the spongy. My boy final got fooled by the right when their token whore saved her dress. They finally found out his weakness. Sex.

I think the word dumb would be best descibe as person who keeps backing a person with a 37 percent approval rating and if it went to one you still would be there. Dumb is voting against your best interest because of a BJ.

again, what an idiot. Your posts are barely comprehendible. Could your mom not agree to proofread for you?? Who said I was "backing" anyone? I've never been polled in my life. Also, I did vote against Clinton, but he still won. That's the process in our country. If I remember right, he was in office already when he got the BJ, right? I think you're just jealous you didn't get blown by Monica.

Your little gun on your post are all i need to know about your intellect. To think you have an open mind is humorous to me. Of course you voted against Clinton how stupid you think people are? You will always vote against your best interest because this is what 55 percent of the south does. Go read the first copy from the Daily Mirror after our last election. I think it said "how could 55 million people be so stupid" Im pretty sure they were not talking about me. Oh and by the way the word is comprehensible and not that gibberish you typed. I can play that pussy game to.

you got me. I just noticed I did type that word incorrectly. Congrats. So, because I like guns, that makes me have a closed mind?? Kettle, meet pot!! You're probably too stupid to see the irony in that statement you made.
