You guys are serious, my comment about Bush being the anti-christ was suppose to be sarcasm. I got hammered with negative feedback because of it, just thought I would clear that up. Wow.

I posted an article by Peggy Noonan a little bit ago that looks at this a different way. Again, I see a post here that says liberals think Bush is Satan. This, of course, is more paintbrush BS, why does it often crumble into namecalling when it's attached to liberals. It's really boring, dudes. And off point, of course. Some do it, mainly for effect, doesn't make it right, or on point. It's weak when it's done.

I think that the complete blowing off of this speech, or one by AhmadDinnerJacket (I still love that one GW) by the administration is an illustration and actually gives credence to the speeches. What is the response to the (outlandish, yes) comments about Bush being imperialistic, and the ruler of the world? "The comments made by these guys will not be dignified by a response. They are not worthy." Nice job. No elitism expressed there, is there? Why don't you stand up to these tirants, engage them in these issues, show where their commentary is off base and/or wrong? Oh wait, that's right, because you are incapable of communicating without embarrassing yourself and our country. Reagan never would have taken comments like that laying down and ignored them. He would have attacked them in the worldwide forum, and presented why America was strong and great. Neither would have Bush the first. And Bill Clinton? He would have probably met the guy for a good Harlem dinner and smoothed things over for the world to see.

Problems don't go away by pretending they are not problems, and by being dismissive of them. These two guys are problems, and by ignoring it, they will grow. It's pretty damn weak when Charles Rangle has to do your battles for you, Mr. President.
Damn straight! Right on all counts. ....How the hell did you get a red card? I can't live in a society where Chadman gets red-carded.

Chavez and Ahmadenijad were both democratically elected. Chavez twice.

See, that's part of the reason why nobody believes us anymore when we say we are trying to spread democracy. If someone is democratically elected and they strongly criticize us, all of a sudden they become a dictator.

nick that`s hilarious...is that why political parties are hand picked by theocrats......why dissidents are jailed?.....

why you can`t even run for office without the "supreme leader`s" consent?...

is the supreme leader the same guy that boris & natasha used to report to?.....or was that "fearless" leader?.....

Iran's 'Democracy'
A rigged election, no reformist victory.

Monday, June 20, 2005 12:01 a.m. EDT

""The most astonishing aspect of Friday's presidential vote in Iran is not that the elections will go into a second round but that Tehran managed to convince so many in the West that this is a real demonstration of democracy.

All power is held by Supreme Leader Ali Khameni, his Council of Guardians and the small clique of military officers and businessmen around him. The Council disqualified more than 1,000 candidates before the election, vetting only contestants who support the regime's ideological lines. The example of outgoing "reformist" President Mohammad Khatami, who presided over eight years of economic decline and worsening repression, has proven that the President cannot change anything against the Council's will.""

i guess the supreme leader is their "rove"...

gardenweasel,

I'd love for you to cite your source on that article. Human Events Online? The National Review? I've gotta be close.

Of course Iran's electoral process is corrupt in the sense that they limit the pool of candidates. That said, it's also unfair to say that they only let people run who oppose reform. Khatami was ousted because Iranians became more anti-American after we invaded Iraq.

That's the fact and you can spin that any way you'd like. We had a person who wanted to reform Iran (Khatami) in office and our misguided invasion of Iraq was a large reason why a hardliner like Ahmadenijad won instead.

Iran Regime to Ban Satellite Dishes
Marze Por Gohar:

Tehran: The Iranian Parliament is examining a bill presented by deputies close to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad which bans satellite television for private citizens.

The draft law provides for fines of up to 5000 euros for offenders. Saiid Abutaleb, the member of Parliament who drafted the reform, on Monday presented the bill to the media. Under the measures, which Parliament is to discuss in the coming days, private citizens who own a satellite dish have three months to get rid of it once the bill becomes law.

Offenders will be liable to fines of up to 5,000 euros, which most Iranian families can?t afford given that the average salary amounts to less than 200 euros a month.

Only public institutions and some associations will be allowed to own a satellite dish. Companies importing and selling satellite dishes who are not authorised to own them will receive fines of 50 thousand euros and their goods will be seised.

The government will use revenues from fines for the "fight against the West?s cultural offensive," said Mr Abutaleb.

The draft law allows companies to broadcast some foreign television channels provided they have obtained the government?s permission. Television channels broadcasting from abroad in farsi will be banned.""

Iran Bans Foreign Films
""A committee of Islamic clerics in Iran, led by the country's new hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, this week banned foreign films in an effort to wipe out what they called "corrupt Western culture". A committee of Islamic clerics in Iran, led by the country's new hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, this week banned foreign films in an effort to wipe out what they called "corrupt Western culture".

Elements that were specifically named as affronts to the government's vision of Iran's Muslim culture included alcohol and drugs, secularists, liberals, anarchists and feminists.

The ban, which follows Mr Ahmadinejad's campaign promise to promote Islamic culture and confront what he called a cultural invasion by the west, aims to distance the state from the open cultural policies undertaken by former reformist president Mohammad Khatami that encouraged cultural coexistence and dialogue among civilisations.

Many experts and officials say the ban will only cause Iranians to turn to the black market for western videotapes or to foreign satellite television broadcasts. It is understood that the ban will have little effect on cinemas where few Western films play anyway, but it could dramatically change television, where all channels are controlled by the state and overseen by religious hardliners.

State-run television has hitherto shown foreign films after censoring many scenes deemed immoral or offensive. Films considered hostile to the Islamic values preached by the ruling establishment are already banned altogether.

"This new ban appears to be part of a campaign to push Iran back to the 1980s and to impose the same restrictions that were only just eased under Khatami. But it will be impossible to take Iran back to the 80s again," said international relations professor Davoud Hermidas Bavand.

Under President Khatami, Iran's 70 million citizens, more than half of whom are under 30, enjoyed growing social and political freedoms and were exposed to western popular culture through satellite television. The dishes are officially banned but tolerated by authorities. Many residents in Tehran hide them under tarpaulins or disguise them as air-conditioning units.

Western music, films and clothing are widely available in Iran, and hip-hop tunes can be heard on Tehran's streets, blaring from car speakers and music shops. Bootleg videos and DVDs of films banned by the state are widely available on the black market.

Already, the state-run television station in the holy city of Mashhad in north-eastern Iran has reported that police closed several video clubs last week on grounds that they were offering films inconsistent with Islamic culture.""

khatami tried......but,he`s wasn`t the real head of state ....

the phrase,"state run television" gives it away...

now,that`s what i call progress..

As I said, there's no doubt that Iran's leadership opposes many freedoms that I strongly support. My point that Ahmadenijad was voted into office is absolutely true. It also is incorrect to insinuate that religious leaders over there simply rig elections by hand picking puppet candidates. If that were true then Khatami never would have been elected.

If you believe that our invasion of Iraq did not help push Iranian voters towards a hardline candidate like Ahmadenijad, then you are dreaming. Let me ask you this. Did the fact that the Islamic jihadists are anti-Bush make you more or less likely to vote for him?

al-Qa'ida (The Base)
Qa‘idat al-Jihad
Islamic Army for the Liberation of the Holy Places
World Islamic Front for Jihad Against Jews and Crusaders
Islamic Salvation Foundation
Usama bin Laden Network

Al-Qa'ida is multi-national, with members from numerous countries and with a worldwide presence. Senior leaders in the organization are also senior leaders in other terrorist organizations, including those designated by the Department of State as foreign terrorist organizations, such as the Egyptian al-Gama'at al-Islamiyya and the Egyptian al-Jihad. Al-Qa'ida seeks a global radicalization of existing Islamic groups and the creation of radical Islamic groups where none exist.

Al-Qa'ida supports Muslim fighters in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Chechnya, Tajikistan, Somalia, Yemen, and Kosovo. It also trains members of terrorist organizations from such diverse countries as the Philippines, Algeria, and Eritrea.

Al-Qa'ida's goal is to "unite all Muslims and to establish a government which follows the rule of the Caliphs." Bin Laden has stated that the only way to establish the Caliphate is by force. Al-Qa'ida's goal, therefore, is to overthrow nearly all Muslim governments, which are viewed as corrupt, to drive Western influence from those countries, and eventually to abolish state boundaries.

Description

Established by Usama Bin Ladin in the late 1980s to bring together Arabs who fought in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union. Helped finance, recruit, transport, and train Sunni Islamic extremists for the Afghan resistance. Current goal is to establish a pan-Islamic Caliphate throughout the world by working with allied Islamic extremist groups to overthrow regimes it deems “non-Islamic” and expelling Westerners and non-Muslims from Muslim countries–particularly Saudi Arabia. Issued statement under banner of “the World Islamic Front for Jihad Against the Jews and Crusaders” in February 1998, saying it was the duty of all Muslims to kill US citizens—civilian or military—and their allies everywhere. Merged with Egyptian Islamic Jihad (Al-Jihad) in June 2001.

Activities

In 2003, carried out the assault and bombing on 12 May of three expatriate housing complexes in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that killed 20 and injured 139. Assisted in carrying out the bombings on 16 May in Casablanca, Morocco, of a Jewish center, restaurant, nightclub, and hotel that killed 41 and injured 101. Probably supported the bombing of the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 5 August that killed 17 and injured 137. Responsible for the assault and bombing on 9 November of a housing complex in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that killed 17 and injured 100. Conducted the bombings of two synagogues in Istanbul, Turkey, on 15 November that killed 23 and injured 200 and the bombings in Istanbul of the British Consulate and HSBC Bank on 20 November that resulted in 27 dead and 455 injured. Has been involved in some attacks in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In 2002, carried out bombing on 28 November of hotel in Mombasa, Kenya, killing 15 and injuring 40. Probably supported a nightclub bombing in Bali, Indonesia, on 12 October that killed about 180. Responsible for an attack on US military personnel in Kuwait, on 8 October, that killed one US soldier and injured another. Directed a suicide attack on the MV Limburg off the coast of Yemen, on 6 October that killed one and injured four. Carried out a firebombing of a synagogue in Tunisia on 11 April that killed 19 and injured 22. On 11 September 2001, 19 al-Qaida suicide attackers hijacked and crashed four US commercial jets, two into the World Trade Center in New York City, one into the Pentagon near Washington, DC, and a fourth into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, leaving about 3,000 individuals dead or missing. Directed the 12 October 2000 attack on the USS Cole in the port of Aden, Yemen, killing 17 US Navy members, and injuring another 39. Conducted the bombings in August 1998 of the US Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, that killed at least 301 individuals and injured more than 5,000 others. Claims to have shot down US helicopters and killed US servicemen in Somalia in 1993 and to have conducted three bombings that targeted US troops in Aden, Yemen, in December 1992.

""""Al-Qaida is linked to the following plans that were disrupted or not carried out: to assassinate Pope John Paul II during his visit to Manila in late 1994, """"""to kill President Clinton during a visit to the Philippines in early 1995"", to bomb in midair a dozen US trans-Pacific flights in 1995, and to set off a bomb at Los Angeles International Airport in 1999. Also plotted to carry out terrorist operations against US and Israeli tourists visiting Jordan for millennial celebrations in late 1999. (Jordanian authorities thwarted the planned attacks and put 28 suspects on trial.) In December 2001, suspected al-Qaida associate Richard Colvin Reid attempted to ignite a shoe bomb on a transatlantic flight from Paris to Miami. Attempted to shoot down an Israeli chartered plane with a surface-to-air missile as it departed the Mombasa airport in November 2002.

Strength

Al-Qaida probably has several thousand members and associates. The arrests of senior-level al-Qaida operatives have interrupted some terrorist plots. Also serves as a focal point or umbrella organization for a worldwide network that includes many Sunni Islamic extremist groups, some members of al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, and the Harakat ul-Mujahidin.

Location/Area of Operation

Al-Qaida has cells worldwide and is reinforced by its ties to Sunni extremist networks. Was based in Afghanistan until Coalition forces removed the Taliban from power in late 2001. Al-Qaida has dispersed in small groups across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East and probably will attempt to carry out future attacks against US interests.

External Aid

Al-Qaida maintains moneymaking front businesses, solicits donations from likeminded supporters, and illicitly siphons funds from donations to Muslim charitable organizations. US and international efforts to block al-Qaida funding has hampered the group’s ability to obtain money.

and here`s hezbollah`s track record...there`s no denying the direct link between hezbollah as iran`s surrogate....

nobody denies it....

here`s your democracy...who`s leader isn`t really a leader...because he has no real authority...as that belongs to some shadowy religious figures...who had to o.k. his bogus candidacy....

khatami was a puppet....a leader in name only....as is ahmadinnerjacket....

now,that`s real democracy at work...

candidates picked by the theocracy...

no freedom of media(state controlled),therefore no freedom of expression or thought....

no freedom of religion...

????

i give you the democracy`s proxy`s resume...

Hezbollah and its history of international terrorism and violence:

1982: Israel invades Lebanon to drive out the PLO's terrorist army, which had frequently attacked Israel from its informal "state-within-a-state" in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah, a Shiite group inspired by the teachings and revolution of Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini, is created with the assistance of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. The group is called Hezbollah–or "party of God"– after initially taking responsibility for attacks under the name "Islamic Jihad." (Not to be confused with the Palestinian terror organization Islamic Jihad.)

July 19, 1982: The president of the American University in Beirut, Davis S. Dodge, is kidnapped. Hezbollah is believed to be behind this and most of the other 30 Westerners kidnapped over the next ten years.

April 18, 1983: Hezbollah attacks the U.S. embassy in Beirut with a car bomb, killing 63 people, 17 of whom were American citizens.

Oct. 23, 1983: The group attacks U.S. Marine barracks with a truck bomb, killing 241 American military personnel stationed in Beirut as part of a peace-keeping force. A separate attack against the French military compound in Beirut kills 58.

Sept. 20, 1984: The group attacks the U.S. embassy annex in Beirut with a car bomb, killing 2 Americans and 22 others.

March 16, 1984: William F. Buckley, a CIA operative working at the U.S. embassy in Beirut, is kidnapped and later murdered.

April 12, 1984: Hezbollah attacks a restaurant near the U.S. Air Force Base in Torrejon, Spain. The bombing kills eighteen U.S. servicemen and injures 83 people.

Hey hey you finally you got something right. I just started hitting the bottle just now. There is no need to call Garden Weasal a rat. He is a weasal for crying out loud.
Just for you i will put a little more effort into my post. This isn't the only thing im doing right now and if you need a list let me know.
Six do you know this is a sports forum and not a grammar site? You can write as pretty as you want but the bottom line is you have absolutely no street smarts. Just give me a little time and i will help you.

since I'm an uninformed, misled, hillbilly redneck, you should easily be able to beat me matching wits. Heck, I even went to public schools!! I told you several posts ago, that when you were ready to bring it, I would be ready.

When we're talking politics and issues like we are in this forum, why should I even give one shred of credit to a man who can't even form a sentence without looking like a complete and utter dumbass?
