Still doing some thinking on this one...my initial response was surprise that it was done so quickly - another real slap in the face for those that don't suck at the Bush administration teats. I would think that even the most ardent supporters of Bush administration politics and operational endeavors would feel these people have long since considered themselves above the law, which is the bigger issue for me. Signing statements to work around legislation you don't agree with, blatant misuse of government personnel and departments, avoiding the constitution when convenient (while at the same time sending soldiers to war to spread the sanctity and theory of the document to other countries - for their own good), no-bid contract awarding to special connections and supporters (when lives are at stake, not just our taxpayer money) - even ones that blatantly defraud us all, repeatedly, and still are awarded more..."etc., etc., etc."
The ironically funny-sad thing about this is Bush's commentary about holding the person responsible for this accountable. "I'll fire whomever did this...he/she should face the music...if he/she came from my administration...etc." I guess he just meant hanging the right person out to dry, take the fall so others aren't harmed, and I'll take care of you on the back end, buddy. You're doing a great job facing the music, Scootery. Don't worry, heh-heh-heh, I'll fix this like all the other stuff...heh-heh-heh.
I'm not surprised this happened. I've learned never to underestimate the brashness and thumb-nosiness of the Bush administration. I just really think that the blanket defenses when in come to legal - and illegal - issues that goes on in this forum (I understand the people that get paid to defend them...) make some lose credibility and objectivity in my opinion.
It was such a big deal when non-conservatives lied and did underhanded things. Even if they were suspected or accused of those things. Now, it's just no big deal, waste of time and money. Maybe there wouldn't have been so much money spent and time wasted if certain people had not obstructed justice, lost e-mails, or considered themselves outside the laws of this country when it was convenient.
I'm still thinking even bigger picture here - I guess I still don't get why one person in our country has the power to make these decisions - especially those with no legal background. The biggest issues in our country are decided by lifetime legal scholars and the best of the best judges - a panel of seven. And now some ranch hand, dismissive, egotistical, dry-drunk gets to throw out rulings because he wants to? I guess I don't see why any one person, Clinton, Carter, Bush I, Reagan, etc., should have that kind of power. I guess I think I'd like my President spending time on other issues - and yet, that's probably not true in THIS case...
