tell me what unc's ats record is the game before playing duke, say over the last 20 years?
GROK said....

Over the last 20 years (roughly 2006–2026), there is no widely compiled or documented specific ATS record for North Carolina in the game immediately before facing Duke. This is a very niche situational trend, and betting databases or trend articles don't appear to track it explicitly over that full span. However, a clear pattern has emerged in recent years: UNC has struggled straight up (SU) in potential "trap" or "look-ahead" spots right before Duke matchups, often midweek ACC games. Since 2020, the Tar Heels are 1-5 SU in such games, with a current three-game losing streak.Specific examples include:
  • Loss at Georgia Tech (74-73) in 2024 → UNC was favored by around 8-10 points in most lines, so failed to cover badly (and lost outright).
  • Double-digit loss vs. Pittsburgh (likely 2025) → Heavily favored, major ATS failure.
  • Close loss vs. Pittsburgh (65-64) in 2023 → Likely a push or minor failure depending on the exact line.
Given UNC is typically a significant favorite in these games against mid-to-lower tier ACC opponents, this 1-5 SU run strongly suggests a poor ATS record in those spots recently (likely 1-5 or 0-6 ATS).The "trap game" concern is noted in UNC coverage as a recurring issue in the last 5-6 seasons, but not highlighted as a long-term 20-year trend. Older seasons may have been closer to break-even or better in these spots, balancing it out overall, but no precise long-term data was found.

Right! This site started in 1998 with the Ultimate Bulletin Board forums before I switched over to vBulletin.
