luxor- edge of strip, old for not really being that old. very touristy. don't think of gambling there

aladdin- no experience

new york, new york- a tourist trap. deuling piano bar is only thing cool there. the coaster u can ride to say you did, but itll give you a massive headache

mgm grand- poker room, but nothing special. easy to get lost.

treasure island- probably your best bet because you are right next door to the mirage which is the 2nd best poker room in vegas. my favorite, but bellagio has more games. island isn't the ritz, but not a dump and you are basically in the heart of the strip.

i stayed at mirage & caesars. really liked the mirage, nice sports book & poker room plus very nice hotel overall. don't think its much more than the mgm grand, actually think its about the same price. i would definitely recommend mirage. didn't think caesars was anything special.

We always stay at the Venetian great hotel and real nice comfy sportsbook.

Right across the street from the TI and Mirage.

Call the Venetian they are always running specials, great suites very very nice.

Agree with what was said in some of the other posts. If you stay at TI you can go to the Mirage or Venetian poker rooms and sportsbooks and you're also not far from the Wynn. If you're going in the warmer months and looking to use the pool MGM is probably the better option.

New York New York. F...ing hate this place, seems like every rude jackass in the world is in this place forechecking each other to get to a 25 dollar table. Only thing decent this in the place is the pizza.

Alladin. Haven't spent any time here so can't comment.

Treasure Island. Pretty good, Free Tram to Mirage which is probably it's best asset.

Luxor-- Even though it is at the end of the strip. I kind of like the place, (maybe its the girls dressed up like Cleopatra?) free monorail will take you to Mandalay and Excalibur. You can ride to Excalibur and catch the main monorail across the street at MGM. Location only sucks if you need to get home after the monorails stop running.

If you do stay there make sure you get a room on the highest floor they will let you. If not you'll never sleep as the sound from the slots echos on the lower floors. Other than the crazy sideways elevator that is hell on the inebriated I've always been treated well there.

MGM-- If you plan on rolling off the plane, bellying up to a table and staying there until you leave this might not be the place for you. I usually will try to go to 4 or 5 casinos in a day. Play a few horses one place, eat lunch another, watch a game at another, eat dinner at another, gamble at another. This is the place you listed that is the best for me. We stay there alot as the price is right, it's pretty nice and it's the easiest to get to other places. It is freaking enormous, so don't plan on having a quaint time with the staff. You can seriously get tired walking from one side of the place to the other. That being said, nothing out of this world in any one category, but a pretty good sportsbook, a small but friendly racebook, decent poker room and miles of other stuff. Best part is it is a stop on the main monorail and only a minute or two from whatever casino you want, get off at Bally's and walk across the street for Bellagio, get off at Flamingo and walk across the street to Ceasars, get off at Harrahs and walk next door to the Venetian, and you can also walk across the street and catch the free monorail that goes to Luxor, Excalibur, and Mandalay bay. I personally don't spend too much time in the room while in Vegas, and try to keep the cab rides to a minimum so for me it's a decent choice.

Whatever you choose have a good trip.

NO! N.Y-N.Y and MGM are huge. It's too hard to get around in these places....and the service is horrible and rude (especially NY-NY).

Treasure Island is your best bet from this group. It's centrally located and will put you within walking distance of several other casinos....including Mirage (sportsbook heaven).

BDB....they have dueling pianos at Harrahs now, with 2 hot chicks tickling the keys. Easy on the eyes and I think it's better than NY-NY.

gman,

Just got back from the Aladdin. Very nice rooms at a decent price.

Have stayed at TI and many others. Aladdin was better then most of them.

Poker room is in the middle of the casino and I believe that they offer daily tournaments.

Good luck wherever you end up.

ctownguy,
I actually meant Mirage's poker room by my post, Venetian doesn't have one. Wynn has a poker room as well. Sorry for the confusion.

Hate the F...ckin Aladdin. If you have a car, you have to walk through their damn mall to get to the hotel/casino from the parking garage. It's a big mall, a long walk and freaking annoying. My wife likes to spend money in their mall. Another reason to not go there........ Not easy to drive in and out of the hotel due to its location mid-strip. Could be a lot better hotel if you don't plan on getting a car.

New York-New York blows. Narrow walkways through the hotel causes unneeded congestion, stress and aggravation. Impossible to get in and out of there if you are driving. New York attitude everywhere.......not what I want on vacation.

TI- no experience.

Luxor-kind of like it in a strange way. Never very busy there so you have plenty of room. Easy access to I-15 to drive from South end of strip to North end of strip. Gambling there is below average. If you are not getting a car, forget about Luxor, too far to get anywhere unless you have a car.

MGM-Huuuuuge hotel. Very hard to find your way around. Due to its size, you will walk a lot. Location at end of strip not ideal if you don't have a car. Size of hotel makes for a long commute to and from your car.

I'll say it depends on who you are going with, what you are going for, what limits you are going to be playing on the tables and what time of week.

For instance, if you are under a $25/hand table player and you are going on a weekend, dont even think of staying at the larger strip hotels. Venetian especially, love staying there, but the tables are tough to get to on weekends and are all $25. They may have a couple open tables at say $15, but they will be 3 deep waiting for a spot and will probably have another bad thing or two about them. The latest BS is they open single deck BJ tables and in real small print they bomb you with "BJ pays 6:5" RUN away from these tables. Anyway, I think this is an important consideration.

Given this I can highly recommend Paris where I have stayed maybe a dozen times. Usually very good rates there, located center of the Strip, reasonable table rates on weekends. If the tables are not, you can walk indoors to Ballys where I have always found $10 tables at night. Also has some poker tables set up, Ballys has a 12 table or so room, but its right across the street from Bellagio. Walking distance to a dozen or so good places, but I love being there because its Center Strip. Sometimes you can even get a room overlooking the Bellagio fountain shows.

Now, I go to Vegas 3-4 times a year and had never given the Luxor a second glance. But Thanksgiving week I stayed at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay and played quite a bit at Luxor. I usually hover around a green/black chip table player but my wife sticks to $15-$25. At Luxor we were always able to find open $10, all weekend long. This has been my experience there every time I've gone. You can also walk next door to Mandalay Bay for a bunch of nice bars and restaurants. Indooor walk to Excaliburwhich is a dump, but they ALWAYS had $5 craps tables and a HUGE KRISP KREME STORE. Anyway, its not the nicest place, but for the price, its got a lot going for it. Oh and we saw Carrot Top there, it was piss your pants funny. Not for everyone, but my wife and I loved it. So I've never stayed there, but it might be worth checking on.

Going back for Valentines Day, cant wait to go.

I prefer the MGM of the ones you listed. Very little heat for the green chip player and great comps. Get a casino host and you will be well taken care of if you spend some time at the tables. The blackjack conditions are very good and it is big enough to move from pit to pit without alot of scrutiny. As for the comments about the size of the place, you get used to it. It is really not that difficult to find your way around. I used to spend a lot of time around the Mirage/TI area but now prefer the MGM and Mandelay Bay properties.

Hey acehistr8,

We use to live in Vegas, now my wife and I go 2-3 times together and I usually go another cuople times with the guys.

We always stay at the Venetian, we really love the hotel, then we just go to play other places, but I play craps and BJ at the Venetian, poker at the Mirage or downtown.

If it would ever work out, it would be great to meet you and your wife for a drink, just a thought.

I go with my brother in law and friends for the 1st week of March Madness, this will be the 9th yr I think and we always stay at the Venetian and spend morning till night in the sporstbook or at the tables. Its great

Let me know some dates and maybe can get together.

doesn't seem real popular with this group, but i almost always stay at luxor. i agree with what yak merchant said about the rooms; i usually stay in one of the towers. i like the proximity to mandalay bay, where there is a great collection of restaurants. i make sure to eat at rum jungle every time i'm there.

one consideration, if you're gonna play blackjack... luxor offers surrender at a lot of it's tables. i'm sure it's available at other casinos on the strip, but i haven't seen it. i think it's a great tool to have at your disposal.

personal side note... i've been to vegas 5 straight years. that streak is coming to an end this year. :cursin: i couldn't persuade any of my lame friends to go out this year. everybody wants to go next year though, so i'll try to balance it out and go twice. :)

That's funny as hell that Ace mentions how funny Carrot top is. I get made fun of to no end for saying how fvcking hilarious he was when I saw him at MGM about 6 years ago. Nobody believes it. I was crying from laughing for 90 minutes. Dude is REALLY funny. Don't base anything on those telephone commercials from a couple years ago.

I guess while i'm here:

Luxor- crappiest hotel i've dealt with in Las Vegas and i've stayed at tons of different ones. That place SUCKS! I didn't actually stay there on my own volition, but hooked up with a chick and stayed there two nights with her by default even though I was staying elsewhere . Everything about that place is irritating. 5 minute walk to the elevators. Slanted rooms that are claustrophobic. Dark as hell in the casino with no energy whatsoever. They have a good nightclub, RA, but you don't need to stay there to go there obviously.

NYNY- agree with the above. Not good. No good restaurants. Bad vibe all around. Stayed there once though not my decision. Did have a very good time at the dueling piano bar.

MGM- ridiculously huge. Again, stayed there against my will...lol...1/2 mile walk from the entrance to the elevators.

T.I. - have not spent much time there but seems worn. Good location though.

Aladdin- My favorite of this group by far. Always treated me well and i've stayed there a lot. Good restaurants, good shopping mall for the significant other. Computers in rooms (not web tv like other hotels, actual computers for 10 bucks a day). Varied, good restaurants.

Out of these 5, my ranking would be:

Aladdin
MGM
TI
NYNY
Luxor
