I don't know much @ Ebay. What up with sniping?

Should the seller actually sell it at that price or let the clueless winner know what their getting into?

Why would so many people read this the wrong way?

Sniping
Sniping means placing a bid in the closing minutes or seconds of an auction.

Any bid placed before the auction ends is "legal" on eBay.

There is a way to protect yourself from snipers and prevent being outbid at the last moment. If you bid the absolute maximum you are willing to pay, our proxy system will do the work for you.

Human nature sometimes makes us resist making the highest bid within our spending limits, but proxy bidding does work.

There is a common misconception that snipers always win. The truth is that they don't. To win, they must outbid you. By placing a proxy bid at your maximum limit, someone else can outbid you only if they are willing to spend more for the item than you are.

If someone places a last-second bid that isn't high enough, they almost never have enough time to get back in and place a winning bid before the auction ends.

look at the bidders Very few or NO feedback ratings.
ssoooooooooooooo,

probably 'new' to ebay and are going to be in for a hell of a shock, when they get a manual in the mail

also,

when it comes to 'sniping', that is all I do.

I will usually bid around 30% more than the current bid about 30 seconds before auction is over.

BE VERY CAREFUL, when bidding to soon, and posting your "maximum" bid you are willing to pay.

some SELLERS will have 'friends' bid on item he/she is selling to drive price up towards your 'maximum' bid and if their 'friends' win, oh well, they just re-list.
By sniping you don't worry about this cause no time to drive up price at last minute

A fool and his money....

I have no problem with people having to pay for this. The seller clearly wrote that the offer was a booklet. In the title and the body, he wrote "booklet". If the seller put phone specs, or additional information about the phone, there may be ground for the buyer not to pay.

I wish there was a way to know the outcome.

There is........

what should I do ?

:mj03:

I have a conscience but yet I've done nothing wrong. Whoever buys it can sell it like I did.
5 different people bid w/ the 5th person bidding only once & winning @ 162.50.

Still I feel kinda crunchy.

Take the payment and write the buyer a letter. In the letter warn him about people who aren't as kind as yourself. Stick said letter in an envelope inside the guide with a print out of the auction (highlight "booklet") and an amout of money.

Keep $20 or whatever you think is fair plus shipping.

Karma will reward you.

Yes I sold that GUIDE.

I haven't sent it out because I'm having 2nd thoughts.

I need input. please.

Lanny -

Tell them in an email that "you realize you are getting just the book and not the guide like the auction CLEARLY states."

If they try to reneg on the auction, tell them that you want them to pay for all of the listing/selling fees because it costs you to sell the item on ebay. They will most likely do this because they got themself into the mess by not clearly reading the auction in the first place. If it goes to Squaretrade mediation you'll get your $162 so you can guess what will happen.

You are clearly in the right in this situation and the individual should have to pay the $162. However, I understand where you are coming from.

2 weeks my wife bought a budweiser neon sign for $9.99 on ebay for my bar. She was so happy and I said how much is the shipping? She says I don't know. I check because I know the new ebay scam of outrageous shipping costs and it is $124.99 to ship the thing. People buy shit not looking at the final cost.
