On the course!
My sister in law just called the wife. She did one of those  moments last night while getting her suv washed.

She was at the automated wash, and dropped a dollar. She opened her door to pick it up, and the car backed up and "took the door off"!

Now, I guess the door just bent back, you know? But now it doesn't close. My question: She is all worried this is going to cost her millions. I figure it is a pretty simple fix for a body shop.

What say the guys in the know?

Did about same thing once, and fixed it myself. So no its not hard. If all it is, is getting the door to close properly find a small independent body shop. Tell them I'm paying cash, and don't want a receipt. $100 OR less.

I don't understand.

She was going through the wash.
What stage of the wash? Was water pouring into the car?
Why open the door to pickup a dollar?
Why did it back up when she opened the door?
Why did it stop backing up?

I only know from the phone call the wife just got.

Jack, she was just putting the money in the machine before entering the bay. She thought she had her car in park, so she opened the door to get the dollar that fell, and when she leaned out, the car started to back up and caught the door on the enclosure and bent it back. I told her to send me a picture, and she said she will next time she heads out there.

I just imagine it was bent back, snapped the hinges, and can't close. She said there is also a dent in the door now. I would guess it's a crease.

I'm not in the biz, but I have to think this is an easy fix for guys who do body work.

It's a Hyundai Sante Fe by the way.

I would be surprised if anything cost a $100. More like north of 300.

Dude if you think you are going to get a qualified body guy to fix that (fixed right that is) for $100 you must have just got back from a trip to Colorado. Lets us know how you make out.

I never mentioned $100, or any price for that matter. I asked for any ideas I could get from some of the guys on here who might be in the know, so I could report back to her. She just wants to have some idea, but I guess she'll find out when she takes it in.

I'd say sent Kneifl a Pm. He prolly has a Craigslist hook up that would buff that shit out for a case of Iron City light. Otherwise you are probably looking at 500 beans to fix it "right"
I'm totally guessing here as body repairs are not my bag. I think you'll find though that body repair labor is considerably higher than mechanical labor

Your damn straight I got the hook up. Took my car into the honda dealership on Saturday and ended up spending a lot on a transmission switch, front end alignment, and the front end where the tires are connected to a bar was showing some wear and tear. Had all of that stuff fixed and it cost a lot but I wanted it to be done by them because it would be done with honda parts. They wanted to replace my front end brakes and flush the brake fluid as well for about $470. I said no. Called one of my friends who is an ASE certified mechanic. He said if I would buy brake fluid and the brake pads which cost $60 that he would charge me $90 for the labor. Over $300 saved, I'll take it and it always pays to have friends :p

Your buddy fucked you Kneifl. It takes 30 minutes to replace front pads on a Honda. Apparently your backyard mechanic gets $180 per hour. I woulda did it for a "buddy" for a case of Iron City Light.

And as far as "flushing the fluid". Your buddy sucked the old fluid out of the master cylinder with a suction gun and filled it back up with fresh fluid. Nobody "flushes" brakes. It's a gimmick.... Trust me. Took him 3 minutes to do that

He is doing the flush too. I know it isn't too complicated to do the pads, what about flushing the brake fluid? He's doing that too. Anyway, I don't mind paying him for his expertise at all. I know it costs around $200-300 at any shop around here to do just the brake pads.

LOL, why do shops like Honda try to charge $164 for doing that. Maybe I'll bring you a case of Iron City light next time.....lol

So the door won't shut right? I'd say you need a LKQ aka used door at least if the door is sprung that much. This car is inside a garage when these photos were shot? Still hard to tell, but IF I am looking at a door that is sprung that badly you probably need hinges too.
