No expert on property and casualty myself--but my 2 cents.
If I was shopping I would make copy of my current coverage and fax it to other carriers to get quote on duplicate coverage to avert someone giving me low bid but cutting coverage.
If savings were not at least 10% or more would probably stay where I am if satisified with service and claims experience in past.
Reason I wouldn't change for small savings is if you'd had no major claims and have prob in near future --they should look at it as overall claim experience--if you change and prob occurs they may not factor your prior good claim experience into equation.

you might also ask friends that live near you about their experience. If you hear allocades from more than one person of a particular agent/agency I would give them opp to quote it--as when it comes time to collect--service will far outweigh a few dollars saved.

prior suggestion of having home and all autos under one carrier was good--the more discounts you can incur--the better.

Again --sorry I couldn't be more precise--but not my area expertise.

ga. ben...some on here that aren`t very experienced in the nuance of shopping around for different insurances have tried to help based on their limited experience and knowledge......in my case, forgive me for not getting my terminology straight...

and then you have guys with actual experience who are willing to give of their time to give you some excellent advice(dtb).....

or,you have other guys with experience who would rather take pot shots at guy`s who are trying to help and get a kick out of watching nice guys like yourself flounder around without being a damned bit of help themselves.......

there aren`t many of them on this site...just a few mean-spirited "jack-tards"(my term) for these useless fellows that have the disposition of someone that just passed a particularly hard brillo pad....

dtb...you are a prince...some excellent advice...

Really guys thanks for all the information. This is what makes the site such a damn hoot. I get good information with a lil bit of controversy for my buck. You guys are never boring. :toast:

I have American Family and am really happy with them.

I pay $612 a year for 1 car. Basic coverage.

I got my car stolen last November and they were very good about it.

They gave me a very nice sum of money to get another car.

My policy did not have a loaner car clause but they paid for a loaner for 2 weeks.

1. What kind of cars are you insuring? That is a big factor to consider.

2. Carrying a high collision deductible is a good idea unless you are living in a pure contributory state.

3. If you are a safe driver living in a non-pure contributory state, lower some of your limits.

4. Always carry a low or zero comp deductible. Deer hits suck, as do stolen vehicles and other acts of God. They do not raise your rate unless you get a boat load of them and will also cover crappy windshield cracks.

5. ALWAYS, ALWAYS ALWAYS, carry uninsured motorist /UMBI coverage. If you get hit by a car full of mexicans, you are screwed. You carry that and get hurt, you get to file a BI claim with your insc company and it is only a 250 dollar deductible, well-worth the money.

Progressive sucks--Period. Try State Farm, GEICO. Nationwide is decent, that rate sounds a bit high but then again, depends on what you are driving.

But I'm sure Vinnie knows more than us. I mean shit, I have only been in the business for 9 years, and my Dad has owned a Collision Repair Shop for 38, what could I possibly know about this subject.

BTW, EVERY carrier will fix your windshield dings for free and not up your premium, assuming you have the correct coverage.
