Ok, just to finish up on this....I just picked my car up from the Caddy dealer after the 30,000 maintence check-up & all they did was charge me for the oil change....cost $78....They gave me a 2010 SRV as a loaner car from Enterprise. They told me that the warranty covered the cost of the loaner car.

But they told me that the front tires were bald & I shouldn't take a long trip with these tires. Since the lease will be up at the end of the year & I was going to get new tires before I handed the car in, I asked the service advisor (that's what they are called) how much are the tires & he told me that they cost about $370 each....I asked him if they were made of gold. And of course I told him that I would get new tires elsewhere.

The guy told me that the back tires (Michelin P25560R18) are bigger than the front (Michelin P23560R18) but if I buy 4 new tires, I can get them all the same size. I always thought that the tires all have to be the same size....I never knew that the back tires can be bigger.

Does anybody know if I can get 4 tires of the same size or is it adviseable to get bigger tires for the back since that is the way the car has been for the 3 years that I have had it ?

Sport cars usually have bigger rear tires my wife's Z3 is like that.

We never lease so I don't know if they will care if you change from the factory specs but
you can go to tirerack.com and see what other tires you can use for your vehicle make and year.

LEASE (fleece) Returns usually are inspected. I suggest putting on the correct size tires to avoid paying for the LESSOR charging you RETAIL + for the correct size tires.

Check the terms of your fleece, er there I go again, LEASE and find out the minimun THREAD DEPTH allowed at turn in.

Then SHOP SHOP SHOP for tires that you need, don't forget your local salvage yard, will be tough to get matches of those sizes due to low population of that Kaddy.

AR appreciate all the work you do on here, so no offense, but as the guys at the GM dealers used to say, "IF you own a Vette or a Kaddy, you shouldn't have to ask "HOW MUCH $$$$ ?"

I am a GM dealer employee since 1975

I have a Mercedes and they use synthetic oil ONLY and it is recommended for 15k mile oil changes....but I do not drive that many miles in a year and my service shop suggested one oil change per year as precautionary maintenance which is not bad for about $75 per year

Al, I previously had a lease car and yes it will be inspected on return and you are "allowed" up to $500 in basic repair, dents/dings etc and I would check to see if tires are part of that. The Mercedes that I bought was a lease return and I had to buy 4 new tires immediately after purchase...good luck

Thanks for your posts guys....

I have been leasing cars for close to 30 years & love it. 2 1/2 years ago I got a brand new Caddy that had a sticker price of $52,000. And other than paying for registration fees, I paid zero money down when I took control of the car. And over the years, other than paying for gas, I hardly paid anything. The first maintenance app't. was on General Motors & this maintenance cost me $78.Now since I'm coming to the end of the lease, I am going to pay $856 for 4 new tires. And that should be the extent of my costs for the 3 years of driving this car. Sometime in the fall, I will start looking into what new car I will be driving next. I may be wrong but imo this can't be beat.

Vinnie....$625

ouch Al...I used to lease and I paid $283 for a Honda

turned it in at no penalty and decided to buy...got a 2006 Mercedes with only 39k miles for 16,900...put 7k down and only pay $270 a month for it

I was like you for years, like a new car to drive every 3 years or so but think you can do better buying and either deciding to keep it or having enough equity to trade again in a couple years with value...but good luck in your decision!

Andy....

I once read an article that basically said that.... " we should buy things that appreciate & rent things that depreciate".

But the bottom line is that we should do what makes us feel comfortable. You feel comfortable putting $7000 down on a car & paying less per month, while I rather use that $7000 for something else & put nothing down on a car & pay more per month. With the car that I have now, I probably will have spent a little over $1000 total on the car.

Arguments can be made supporting each of us, but again the bottom line is what we feel comfortable doing.
