dealer recommends oil changes very 15,000 miles because they use synthetic oil

Oil is done once a year or every 15000 miles, depending on type of driving. That 15000 miles changes as you drive it, and ends up being about 12000 miles, but by then it's a year anyway. Cost, about $200. Not really sure as the oil price has probably gone up since I did it last. It was $11 a quart and takes 7 quarts. $200 a year for oil isn't bad though.
Every 15000 miles is about $500 or so. Called Inspection 1. Includes changing the oil.
Every 30000 miles is expensive, about $1500. This includes adjusting the valves, and Inspection 1. Called Inspection 2.

Thanks tball.....& if this costs me $1500 I will be extremely pissed & will go back to leasing less expensive cars.

most car manuals nowadays say to change oil at 7,500 miles. Synthetic oil sometimes twice that.

3,000 mile change was for old carburetor and non-computer cars that broke down the oil much sooner. Also was good idea for mechanic back then to look at those cars every 4,000 or so anyway. It's no longer the 1960s and '70s!

Yet the dealer & oil change stores still don't mind tossing that 3,000 next oil change sticker in the window.........I usually do 5-6,000 then change. Never heard of 15,000 mile oil. But then again this is Maine

that quote wasnt taken from a caddillac dealer, as was simply using it as breakdown for why services are higher than normal rates that everyone that changes at 3k are charged. ie. $150 vs $30 when getting maintenence.

about 2 to 4 oil changes depending how you drive the car

LOL!

I change mine every 3,00 but you can use synthetic for every 5k.

Never heard of 15k mile oil changes. But I'm not a mechanic.

I thought you were joking. I would suspect on reconciliation with the dealership there would a cause for up charges due to negligence.

I still think you're pulling our leg...

Not knowing Cadillac's and having not purchased a new car in a few years I wasn't aware of the 15k mile change.

I stand corrected.

I've always changed it at 3k, so I thought you were being satirical.

My apologies! :0008

You're an idiot.

That's a tad bit harsh don't you think?

Where in your first post did you say that you were using synthetic oil? Had you stated the real facts I would have never made such comments. Still, I run synthetic and wouldn't think of taking past 7500 mi without a change.

Have a wonderful day :0074

Also, Jack:

You can switch to a synthetic oil. That is an unfounded myth that says that you must stay with regular oil. I would encourage you to change over to the good stuff.

You must be using synthetic oil - some of those oil types have a 15,000 to 20,000 mile life span.

Some people on here aren't aware of it - not a big deal though - I don't use synthetic and I also change my oil at 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Although many mechanics say 10,000 to 15,000 mile range for most regular oil and that the 3,000 mile number was made up in the 70's to increase oil changes and their profits. (It has been proven both ways - so I really don't know what to believe other than I protect my investment.)

woody`s a classy dude...

as for the rest of these morans...:142smilie ..thanks for setting em straight,judge...

my mechanic(an old boyhood friend) told me that the 3000 mile meme was put in there exactly for the reason the judge stated...last time i was in i asked for an oil change and he asked me why...he said theres nothing wrong with your oil..

might pay to check the filter...but if the oil`s in good shape:shrug: ...

No because you took an unecessary shot at me in your first paragraph. My first post clearly showed that I didn't know anything about the subject matter. So if you were interested in contributing something useful to this thread your post would have been similiar to the Joker's. But let's forget this now & move on.

On the course!
I've always been told you can switch to synth, but you can NEVER switch back to oil in that engine.
