What does it really do? I hear that there are quite a few of the Claifornia Lemon Buybacks that are then sold back to dealers and independents via Auto Auctions.... how can you protect yourself.

I have found a nice car, but doing research late last night, they have compaints against them, then I called a couple of dealerships asking about them, and they mentioend they participate heavily in California Buy Backs...

IS there any way you can protect yourself???

dealership is: www.crystalmotors.net

the two main things it tells u if the car was in an accident or if it's a savage car. Plus it will tell you how many owners & how many miles from the last owner.
It's only about $30 a month for unlimited reports.

CarFax will do a title search on the vehicle...ins claims, mileage, flood damage, lemon....Ask the dealer to provide you with a CarFax on the vehicle if you are ready to buy. If they won't provide one, run, don't walk away.

Yep a reputable dealer would give u his for free but if your doing multiple searches your better of just buying subscription.

Another way to get a good deal is to buy a rental car but buy one of the high end cars like a caddy or lincoln ones that just not anyone would rent.

Yep, it says they have buyer protection if you get a buyback etc., but not sure what that consists of. The current report shows 1 owner, but it came from CA. Nothing esle.... just protecting myself...

Dogface, if the vehicle is a GM give me the vin or post a link to see the specs of the vehicle. I can only check GM vehicles but if it's something else say a Ford call the dealer (the smaller the dealer the better) and ask for someone in service (Salesman will most likely hang up since your not buying from them) and ask if they will look up the history of the vehicle for you. If it is a factory buyback then the history will show that. Not everyone will look this up for you as they know you are wasting their time and they are not getting paid for this. But if you catch the right person and their not busy you may get lucky.

You ask the question - IS there any way you can protect yourself???

The answer is yes - stop buying domestic vehicles. Buy a Toyota or a Honda.....

No kidding.....but the flip side, I have spoken with many dealers and car salesmen lately and they say selling a car - while it can be difficult because of the internet, also has made it easier.

Apparently they have a lot of people walking on the lot with pages of cars they printed out from the dealer website - they test drive them and buy one. All the salesman has to do is get the keys from inside...
