My parents have a car that is eligible for $4500 and have been looking to get a new car (the car is maybe worth $500, so it is a great deal for them)... I have a few questions, if anyone is familiar, input would be greatly appreciated

1) Do you have to purchase GM, Fords (inside joke for people in MI) or Chrysler
2) Do you still get all the incentives/discounts (IE - employee purchase price, supplier price, regional incentives
3) Do the car you purchase have to cost X amount of dollars? (or is it simply MPG driven)
4) Can you apply to PEP vehicles (GM in particular)

been working on researching this some today.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov will lead you to eligible purchases and $$ amounts eligible.

best i found so far on my daughters beater ($375 at auction 10 months ago so still have to wait 2 months before it qualifies) is a government rebate of $3500.

She has a Crown Vic (police) 1993, and the $3500 was on a Malibu.

hopefully it will still be in running condition in 2 more months so mom can get a new car and she can take over my oldsmobile.

thanks for the link.

Their car is a 93 van (don't know what type). Based on what they say, they are eligible for $4500.

Now they just need to find a car they want

I looked into it and I thought it was a scam and a waste of taxpayer dollars.

I can't decide whether to buy a Lincoln Navigator or Ford Expedition to replace my Tahoe. cash for clunkers is not for me

Who is driving a clunker yet is only $4500 away from a dealers sticker price? Couldn't you ususally get $4500 off the sticker anyway with a trade?

If you buy a jeep chrysler dodge...

If you buy a jeep chrysler dodge...

they will even match up to another 3500 bucks. So you can potentially get up to $8000 off a new vehicle if you qualify. That is, if the vehicle you have gets less than 18mpg, and has been insured and registered for the past year. Unfortunately, if you are self employed, the financing is non-existent. So maybe we could just borrow from Hedgehog for a small fee:shrug:

I am not a charity;)

on a serious note, I looked into it, I could use my dad's old truck for trade in if he would let me buy it cheap from him, but I can't find a vehicle that would fit my lifestyle, 2 kids, wife and a dog. We make frequent trips 225 miles away and we need space.

JK --as much as you love handouts and all, I figured you'd be right on top of that--- No worries, I am attempting to go through a credit union. They generally are a lot more personal and are more apt to work with small business owners or independent contractors. It is a great deal for me, since what I own is worth about 2000 and I can get 8000 off a new vehicle.

take advantage of the government when you can, maybe it will spur new vehicle sales, who knows
