Playing in a cash game last night, after the flop, heads up, guys bets, I raise, he calls and then turns over his cards, exposing his hand.

What is the rule here? When I questioned it he says " I called ". When I questioned whether it was legal . He then says that it does not matter because he is all in next card. So now he is betting out of turn. I said he should not be allowed to bet again as he exposed his hand ( which I argued unsuccessfully that should have voided his hand )

Any one with knowledge of the rule here?

Exposing his hand does not void his hand. Have seen this happen many times when someone thinks their call of a hand puts them all-in and they quickly flip their cards. Exposing of cards in itself is not advantageous, the bet out of turn however would have to be honored. At the end of the day, you should have actually saved a little money by him exposing.

Having said this, house rules differ. Just how it would be played at my place.

In a casino, his cards are dead.

In a home game, if it is among friends, say "fine" and move on.

If he is a friend - move on.
If he is a dick, press him on casino rules.

If he had said " sorry thought you were all in" then no big deal, but that was not the case. He announced call and it was obvious that I was not all in. Not a casino game but not a friendly home game either. Was not much money in pot and I would have had to draw out so I folded after turn did not hit. I think he just got excited but he can never admit a mistake.

In a cash game it is completely legal.
I have never done this myself but I have had players do this against me.

Yep. I was playing in a tournament in a casino and a guy exposed his hand with three people on the hand only on the turn.......dealer class tournament manager and he rules it dead. Said all casinos do this.

What? You hear different ?

Tourney - You can NOT expose CARDS until all in.

Cash - if u are heads up - GO FOR IT

Tourney and cash game rules are different. His hand is not dead in a cash game. I wish all my opponents would turn up their hands. :0corn

Sixfive is correct, I've showed my hand to people at cash games to show I had a better hand so they would not catch a strait or flush on the river.

Why, you want them to call in that spot?

I don't do it every time of course.

U can also do that to get a tell. U can play your cards face up the whole night if u want in a cash game. Like joker said though, I have seen guys do that in a tourney and have their hand declared dead.

One thing that is the same in both though and seems obvious is that if u throw ur cards down face down they are mucked and dead. If u throw them down at showdown face up, the dealer has to call the winner. I just threw that in there bc I have seen people too stupid to read their hands muck winners in cash games and in tourneys. I also saw a dealer errantly fish cards out of the muck, turn them over, and give the pot to that person that chucked them face down. Dealers are humans and make mistakes for sure. That's when u get the floor manager involved.

Showing your hand eliminates you from losing if you had the winning hand. Mucking winners is possible. Even the best of the best have mis-read their hands. I sometimes show my cards because there was one time where I mis-read my hand and I almost mucked a winning hand.

Even the best of the best have misread their hands sometimes. Sure call me an idiot, call me stupid, but at least if you show your cards you won't fold a winning hand.

Just my 2 cents.

Oh and one time on TV I saw Phil Laak muck a winning hand, so yes even the pros mis-read hands at times.

Just my 2 cents.

Always mucking face up makes you look like a tool. Just my 2 cents. :0008 I think it's hilarious when poker players do that and the dealer calls out their hand in a mocking fashion because it is nowhere close to winning.

"Nice straight man! Look at the pair of 8's I had."

PS. Phil Laak is a complete douche-tool, so horrible example on your part.

no joker hand is not dead because guy exposed his cards as long as any player has cards in hand the hand is still live if somehow dealer or him lets cards touch the muck then hand is declared daed

other casino rules no person out of game or at table may say anything to any player in hand !

As in telling them to raise or guiding them through the hand or saying they have this your drawing daed etc..

YOu can stop action right there and say give me my bets back and kill my hand or have thier hand declared daed !

I did this twice years ago got person out of hand because hubby behind her told her to call with only single ace on flush draw i flopped the flush with lower cards> I held up hand yelled to deakler FREEZE call floor over right now!

Sure enough i was right if she stayed in she gets nut with 4th spde on ricver and i lose hand other guy was on 2 pair at time he was fine with me !

NO HELP from Peanut gallery in any casino

and Heaven forbid if speking to each other in native language!

LOL two got caught once other guy knew thier language they were from india and told each other thier hands or that other person couldnt win because they mucked thier key card!

ONE other instance i could have stopped dude because his buddy behind him told him to re raise me i had aces starting 7 stud he had a 7 dope just told me his buddy had trips i let him know about it and said you wanna tell him what to do the next 4 cards dealt?

I said might as well show your hand pal your friend told me you have trip 7's

I played out hand checking letting him bet and i called i paired the hole card a J plus had possible nut flush at 6th street well he made FH in 7 so did i moi! i trap him by checking trying to hide my blushing face knowing he couldnt beat j's full

I check he bets 5 i come back over $10 he curses fuck you bought it in river didnt you ?

I said hello so did you wiseguy call raise or fold now!

HE calls and says FULL HOUSE showing he had 777 10 10

I said nice hand he says i won right ? starts reaching for chips.

I grabbed his hand and said hold on buddy i said NICE hand but you lost i have JACKS FULL over aces !
When im hitting my hands i'm unbeatable it's like they say your getting hit with the deck which means no matter what you have at end of 7 cards it wins
