The gas gauge on my Deville works fine until it drops below 1/2 tank and then it usually shoots straight back up and shows FULL. What's going on here? And, the other day the speedometer quit working for about 5 miles before it started working again. That's only happened the one time but the gas gauge screwed me up once and I ran out of gas. Any ideas or should I hit the Cadillac forums? I can live with it because for now on I'll fill back up at 1/2 tank but it's annoying.

:0008Gas gauge is most likely a failed fuel sender that likely requires replacing the fuel pump module. The speedometer is either a speed sensor issue or possibly a problem with the instrument cluster. Somebody is going to have to hook up a scan tool and drive it with it in datastream. When you lose the speedo, if the scanner still shows MPH then its in the instrument cluster. If you got nothing on the scan tool then the speed sensor is dropping out. If it only happened once, its going to be impossible to diagnose. Next time it happens see if the cruise works and get back to me.
Are you sure you were actually driving fast enough to register the speedometer above 5 MPH?
Maybe it was working fine but you were eating French fries and didn't notice?
Sprint or chicky,
Do you have a preference in tire brands? Are some makes that much better than others? I've been told Michelins have a problem with cracking in the sidewalls and also on the tread field. How long before cracking appears? My mech said stick with Goodyear, Goodrich, Firestone. How about Uniroyal?
Thanks.
Tire brands are like anything else, you get what you pay for. Any of the above tires you mentioned are good brand name tires. I'd stay away from the brands you can barely pronounce or the absolute cheapest in the size you are looking for because the "cheap" tires usually lack quality and don't last very long. If the brand tire you are currently using gave you good service/mileage I'd recommend replacing them with the exact same thing.
