Are you kidding me??????

This had to be the worst coaching disaster of the year.

With less than a minute to play - Den on its own 25 with no timeouts.

Any NFL coach would keep both safety's deep, even with a veteran at CB. Lelie is DEN's best WR. he had just caught a couple of passes. he should have been double-covered at least.
But to put a rookie CB on him with no help is CRIMINAL.

HC Butch Davis should be fired immediately. He said "these guys deserved a better fate today' -- YES, A NEW COACHING STAFF.

The coaches are acting like the rookie did the best he could to hide their guilt.

Disgusting!!!

Heartbroken In Denver
By Zac Jackson
This report filed December 14, 2003

DENVER? Even at this stage of a disappointing season, Cleveland Browns games are still not for the weak at heart.

Jason Elam?s 25-yard overtime field goal?his third of the day?provided the winning margin as the Broncos beat the Browns, 23-20, at Invesco Field Sunday in a game that will go down as especially heartbreaking, even by Browns standards.

Said Browns Head Coach Butch Davis: ?These guys deserved a better fate today.?

Down 10-0 early, the Browns rallied to tie the game at halftime. Down 17-10 in the fourth quarter, the resilient Browns tied the game on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Tim Couch to Andre? Davis?and the real drama was just beginning.

Cleveland took a 20-17 lead with 1:11 left in the fourth quarter on a 47-yard field goal by newly signed kicker Brett Conway. The Broncos were out of timeouts when they started what might prove to be a season-saving drive at their own 25.

Jake Plummer hit Ashley Lelie for seven yards, then again for five on the next play. With the clock under 40 seconds and rolling, Plummer hurried the Broncos to the line of scrimmage, stepped up in the pocket, and found Lelie in a single coverage with Browns rookie DB Michael Lehan.

The result was a 46-yard completion to the Browns? 17-yard line. Denver killed the clock, then Elam hit a 36-yard field goal with six seconds left in regulation to tie the game. Frisman Jackson?s desperation Hail Mary attempt fell incomplete, adding another chapter to one of the more bizarre and memorable games in the ?new? Browns? history.

Overtime.

The Comeback Magician Waves His Wand to Victory
By Andrew Mason
DenverBroncos.com
DENVER -- As the Broncos prepared to take possession following the Brett Conway field goal that gave the Cleveland Browns their first lead, no one in the front rows of the stands at INVESCO Field at Mile High pointed to Jake Plummer and yelled, "It's your time."

But it didn't have to be said. Every Broncos fanatic in the suddenly stilled stadium knew that it was. A murmur of anticipation charged the rapidly chilling air. This was the moment for which Plummer was asked to join the Broncos. This was his time.

Sixty-four seconds. No timeouts. Forty yards to travel to plausible field-goal range. A three-point deficit. This is why the Broncos wanted Jake Plummer. It wasn't just for the consistent play he has given the team since an unsettled debut at Cincinnati in September. It was for the moments when something was extraordinary was necessary in order to ensure mere survival.

It was time for the Snake's version of Mile High Magic.

I guess Plummer feels he is the next Elway after getting that gift from the Brown's coaching staff.

Thanks ivabign,

Working a 60 hour/week job limits my input.

I usually dont have time to reply, but I was sickened at how the rookie was hung out to dry during and after the game.

BTW
I didn't bet the game.

HELL
denver coach can't be far behind. what was he thinking still trying to call a play when they were at the ten. that is a 27 yard field goal for arguably one of the best in the league. all he does is run another play for only god knows why and portis gets hurt. x-rays negative but he does have a high ankle sprain. not good when they have two very tough games remaining and both are on the road. there was absolutely no benefit in running that play. that might cost his team the playoffs because they have no chance without him a 100% in those two games.

according to dave campo, they called a 4-deep coverage.
lehan just got tripped up and thrown off-balance. but for some reason, there was no help on the coverage.

The coaches are doing the "not my fault' shuffle. He may have called the play, but the players were not coached good enough to be where they were supposed to be.
