**Xavier at Villanova**

-- Villanova (14-1 straight up, 10-5 against the spread) is ranked No. 1 in the country in the Associated Press?s Top 25 and No. 6 in the RPI Rankings. The Wildcats have neutral-court victories over Tennessee, Western Kentucky, Gonzaga, Northern Iowa and Hofstra. They also won at Temple and at home vs. Marquette. ?Nova?s only defeat came at Butler on Dec. 30 by a 101-93 count.

-- Jay Wright?s team is 2-1 in Big East play going into tonight?s home game vs. Xavier. As of early this morning, most books had Villanova listed as a nine-point favorite with a total of 164. The Musketeers were +375 on the money line (risk $100 to win $375).

-- Villanova is undefeated in five home games with a 2-3 spread record. The Wildcats failed to cover the number in this past Saturday?s 100-90 win over Marquette as 16-point home ?chalk.? The 190 combined points soared ?over? the 162-point total. Jalen Brunson scored a team-best 27 points and handed out eight assists, while Eric Paschall finished with 19 points by making all six of his free throws and all three of his 3-point launches. Mikal Bridges produced 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists compared to only one turnover. Donte DiVincenzo contributed had 14 points, six boards and four assists. The win over Marquette was the 400th of Wright?s head-coaching career that started on the Main Line back in 2001.

-- Brunson is averaging team-highs in scoring (19.4 points per game), assists (5.2 APG) and field-goal percentage (59.0%). The junior guard has buried 49.3 percent of his 3-pointers and has a 78/20 assists-to-turnovers ratio. Bridges is averaging 17.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.3 blocked shots per game. DiVencenzo, a sophomore from Wilmington, Delaware, is averaging 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest. Phil Booth (11.8 PPG) has a 44/15 assists-to-turnovers ratio and is hitting 42.6 percent of his treys. Omari Spellman, a 6?8? 255-pound redshirt freshman, is averaging 10.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots per game.

-- Villanova has a 3-1 spread record in four games as a single-digit favorite this season.

-- Villanova is ranked seventh in the nation in scoring (88.9 PPG), fifth in FG percentage (51.4%) and 13th in 3-point shooting (41.5%).

-- Eleven of Villanova?s 14 wins have come by double-digit margins and all 14 of its victories have come by at least eight points.

-- Villanova swept the season series from Xavier last season and it has beaten the Musketeers in eight of the past nine meetings both SU and ATS. The Wildcats smashed Xavier 79-54 as an eight-point home favorite last Jan 10. Brunson scored 11 points and dished out six assists without committing a turnover. Trevon Bluiett had 10 points, five boards and four assists in defeat, while J.P. Macura finished with 10 points and a pair of steals.

-- The ?over? is 5-3 in the last eight Xavier-Villanova games, but the ?under? cashed in both encounters last year.

-- Xavier (15-2 SU, 12-5 ATS) is 3-1 both SU and ATS in four road assignments. Chris Mack?s squad saw its 10-game winning streak snapped in Saturday?s 81-72 loss at Providence as a 5.5-point road favorite. Karem Kanter, the transfer from Green Bay, scored 24 points and swiped 12 rebounds in only 20 minutes of action for the Musketeers. Kanter made 10-of-15 field-goal attempts and had eight offensive boards. Trevon Bluiett and Tyrique Jones scored 12 points apiece against the Friars.

-- Xavier is No. 10 in the AP poll and No. 4 in the RPI Rankings. Mack?s club is 3-2 versus the Top 50 and 6-2 against the Top 100. The Musketeers have quality road wins at Marquette, at Wisconsin and at Northern Iowa. They have home wins over Cincinnati, Butler, Rider, Baylor and Colorado. Xavier?s other defeat came on a neutral court vs. Arizona St. on Nov. 24.

-- Xavier has been an underdog just once in its 80-70 win at Wisconsin as a 3.5-point ?dog on Nov. 16. Bluiett, the senior shooting guard out of Indianapolis who averaged 18.5 PPG while starting in all 36 of his team?s games last season, is scoring a team-high 19.4 PPG clip. Bluiett has buried 41.7 percent of his 3-balls and is averaging 5.6 RPG. Macura (13.1 PPG, 4.1 RPG) has a 50/26 assists-to-turnover ratio and a team-high 27 steals in 16 games.

-- Xavier is 20th in the nation in scoring (85.6 PPG), 13th in FG percentage (50.5%) and eighth in FT percentage (78.3%).

-- With a win in this spot, Mack would tie Pete Gillen?s for the most wins in the Xavier program?s history with 202.

-- The ?over? is 11-6 overall for the Musketeers, 3-1 in their four road contests.

-- The ?over? is 11-4 overall for the Wildcats, 4-1 in their home games.

-- Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Eastern on Fox Sports 1.

**Georgia at Missouri**

-- Georgia (11-3 SU, 7-4 ATS) can move into a third-place tie with Kentucky if it can emerge from tonight?s road game at Missouri victorious. The Bulldogs take a 2-1 SEC record to Columbia, where tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.

-- As of early this morning, most spots had Missouri installed as a four-point favorite with a total of 134. The Bulldogs were +160 on the money line (risk $100 to win $160).

-- UGA owns a 7-2 record both SU and ATS in its past nine games. Mark Fox?s club has covered the spread in five consecutive outings, including Saturday?s 65-46 win over Alabama as a two-point home ?chalk.? Senior power forward Yante Maten led the way with 26 points, 11 rebounds and three assists without a turnover. Rayshaun Hammonds finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals, while William ?Turtle? Jackson had five assists, four steals, three boards and only one turnover. However, Jackson missed all eight of his shot attempts that each came from 3-point range. Derek Ogbeide contributed eight points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

-- Maten, a two-time All-SEC selection, considered entering the NBA Draft before opting to return for his senior season. The decision appears to have been a good one with UGA likely on the way to its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2015. UGA went to only two NCAA Tourneys in Fox?s first eight seasons, but this program is trending in the right direction. Plus, Fox is universally known as ?doing things the right way? (not cheating), so the current federal probe into corruption in college basketball certainly helps a clean program like Fox?s. Hammonds was a four-star signee in the 2017 class and the Bulldogs have another four-star in power forward Amanze Ngumezi from out of Savannah inked for the 2018 class.

-- Maten is averaging team-highs in scoring (20.0 PPG), rebounding (9.4 RPG) and blocks (1.2 BPG). The former 3-star recruit who chose UGA over Michigan St. is hitting 48.9 percent of his FGs, 40.0 percent of his 3?s and 82.5 percent of his FTs. Jackson is the only other UGA player scoring in double figures (10.1 PPG), but the Bulldogs have five players averaging at least 7.4 PPG. Hammonds (7.9 PPG, 5.1 RPG) is burying 50.0 percent of his FGs, while Ogbeide is averaging 7.6 points and 5.9 RPG while hitting 63.5 percent of his FGAs.

-- Georgia is No. 36 in the RPI Rankings, going 4-1 versus the Top 50 and 5-2 against the Top 100. A 76-62 loss at UMASS (RPI #76) is dragging UGA?s RPI down. The Bulldogs have Top-50 home wins over Temple (84-66) and Alabama, in addition to a win at Marquette (73-66) and vs. Saint Mary?s (83-81) in California. They also have a 64-57 win at CS Fullerton (RPI #126). UGA?s two other defeats came at Kentucky (when it covered and led outright for most of the game at Rupp Arena) and vs. San Diego St. (in California).

-- Georgia is 2-2 both SU and ATS in four road assignments. UGA is ranked 39th in the nation in scoring defense, limiting opponents to 65.3 PPG, and 14th in FG percentage defense (38.2%). The Bulldogs are 34th in the country at defending the 3-point line (30.7%).

-- Missouri (11-4 SU, 7-7 ATS) is 7-1 SU and 3-4 ATS at home during Cuonzo Martin?s first season at the helm. The former All Big-Ten performer as a college player at Purdue came to Missouri after head-coaching stints at California, Tennessee and Missouri St. Martin is an original native of East Saint Louis.

-- Martin hired former Washington assistants Michael Porter Sr. to his staff at Missouri. This led to the signings of Michael Porter Jr. and Jontay Porter, who re-classified into the 2017 class even though he was supposed to be a senior in high school this year. But Porter Jr., the nation?s No. 1 prep player in the 2017 class, played only two minutes this season before being shut down with a back injury. He had surgery to repair discs and it?s unlikely that he?ll return this year. His younger brother, Jontay, has made an impact, though. Jontay Porter (8.3 PPG) is averaging team-highs in rebounding (6.8 RPG), steals (1.0 SPG) and blocks (2.3 BPG).

-- Missouri had won six of its previous seven games going into Saturday?s SEC showdown vs. Florida. Martin?s squad led for most of the game and by as many 12, and it never trailed by more than three. But with the game knotted at 75-75 in the final seconds, UF?s Chris Chiozza stepped into the passing lane for a steal that led a run-out layup with 0.1 ticks left. The Gators captured the 77-75 road win in a pick ?em affair. Jordan Barnett scored a game-high 28 points in defeat, draining 6-of-9 launches from long distance. He also had nine rebounds. Kassius Robertson was also in double figures with 12 points, while Jontay Porter finished with nine points, seven rebounds, two blocks, one steal and six assists without a turnover.

-- Barnett is averaging a team-high 15.9 PPG thanks to 49.4 percent shooting from the field, 43.3 percent shooting from downtown and 92.0 percent from the FT line. Robertson, a transfer from Canisius, is scoring at a 15.4 PPG clip. Robertson has drained 41.9 percent of his 3-balls. Kevin Puryear is averaging 9.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

-- Missouri is No. 30 in the RPI Rankings, producing a 1-2 record against the Top 50 and a 4-3 mark versus the Top 100. The Tigers have road wins at UCF and at South Carolina, in addition to a home win vs. Iowa St. and a neutral-court scalp of St. John?s. They?ve lost on neutral floors to Illionis and West Virginia, in addition to falling at Utah.

-- Georgia has won six in a row over Missouri and is 5-1 ATS during this winning streak. The ?under? is 5-1 in the past six head-to-head meetings. The Tigers ended a five-game ATS slide against UGA when they took the cash as 12.5-point underdogs in last January?s 71-66 loss in Athens. Maten led the Bulldogs to victory after they trailed by six at intermission, scoring 17 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Juwan Parker added 11 points and six boards. Meanwhile, Terrence Phillips had a game-high 20 points in the losing effort. His five 3-pointers helped Missouri get the cash.

-- The ?under? has cashed in three straight Georgia games to improve to 6-5 overall. UGA has seen the ?under? connect in all four of its road contests.

-- Totals have been an overall wash (7-7) for the Tigers, who have seen the ?over? go 4-3 in their seven lined home outings. They?ve seen the ?over? cash in back-to-back games and three of their past four.

-- ESPN2 will have the telecast at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

**B.E.?s Bonus Nuggets**

-- FSU will put the nation?s third-longest home winning streak (28 behind Cincinnati?s 35 and SMU?s 34) on the line tonight as a six-point favorite vs. Louisville. The Seminoles are looking to bounce back from Sunday?s 80-74 loss at Miami as 2.5-point road underdogs. U of L has won 32 of 42 head-to-head meetings with FSU, which also competed with the Cardinals in the old Metro Conference before they joined the ACC.

-- SMU?s 34-game home winning streak will be at stake when it hosts Temple at 9:00 p.m. Eastern tonight on the CBS Sports Network. As of early this a.m., most spots had the Mustangs as 9.5-point favorites. They are 11-0 SU and 4-1 ATS at home this year. Meanwhile, the Owls are winless in five road games with a 1-4 spread record.

-- Texas star sophomore guard Andrew Jones is ?out? of Wednesday?s game against TCU. The reason for his anticipated absence is an undisclosed illness. Jones was averaging a team-best 15.3 PPG before a wrist injury kept him out of action for four games. Since his return, Jones has played sparingly in games against Kansas and Iowa St. When pressed on the specifics for Jones, head coach Shaka Smart declined to comment ?out of respect for the family.? The Longhorns and Horned Frogs will collide tonight in Austin at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPNU.

-- Indiana sophomore center De?Ron Davis is out indefinitely with a leg injury sustained last week. In IU?s first 15 games, Davis averaged 9.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game. Davis was shooting at a team-best 61.5 percent clip from the field. I backed Archie Miller?s team in Tuesday?s 74-70 win over Penn State as a one-point home favorite.

-- Creighton remained undefeated at home with last night?s 85-74 win over Butler as a six-point favorite. Marcus Foster responded to a season-low nine-point effort this past weekend by scoring a game-high 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. The transfer from Kansas St. dished out eight assists compared to just two turnovers. Martin Krampelj produced a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

-- Texas A&M lost 74-73 at Kentucky last night to fall to 0-4 in the SEC, but the Aggies took the cash as 4.5-point road underdogs at Rupp Arena. Admon Gilder (12.8 PPG, 4.9 RPG & 3.5 APG) returned to the lineup for the first time since Dec. 13 and scored 14 points for A&M. The Aggies are the only SEC team remaining winless in league play.

-- With wins over Tennessee and Arkansas last week, Auburn defeated ranked teams in consecutive games for the first time since the Sonny Smith Era. To provide some context for the youngsters out there, Smith was Charles Barkley?s coach at AU. The Tigers improved to 15-1 overall and ended a 10-game losing streak to Ole Miss with last night?s 85-70 come-from-behind win over Ole Miss as 11-point home ?chalk.? Bruce Pearl?s team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to win their 13th consecutive contests. AU hasn?t tasted defeat since an 88-74 loss to Temple on Nov. 17 in Charleston. DeSean Murray?s 16 points led six Auburn players in double figures against the Rebels. Murray also pulled down eight rebounds. Despite logging only 20 minutes of PT, Anfernee McLemore finished with 13 points, nine boards and three rejections.

-- Auburn wasn?t the only SEC team to win and cover after trailing by 10 at halftime last night. Tennessee overcame a 45-35 intermission deficit in Tuesday?s 92-84 win at Vanderbilt as a 1.5-point road favorite. The Commodores are now an unfathomably abysmal 1-12 ATS for the season.

-- As of early this morning, most books had New Mexico listed as a 1.5 or two-point home favorite vs. Wyoming. The Cowboys might be without guard Justin James, who is listed as ?questionable? for tonight?s game at The Pit due to a groin injury. James is averaging 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. UNM?s Sam Logwood is ?questionable? with a shoulder injury. Logwood averages 12.9 points and 4.9 RPG.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Phil Booth hit five 3s and scored 21 points and Jalen Brunson had 17 to lead No. 1 Villanova to an 89-65 win over Xavier on Wednesday night.

The Wildcats (15-1, 3-1 Big East) returned to the top spot of the poll on Monday.

The Wildcats raced to a 22-9 lead. Booth hit three 3s in the first half and Brunson was solid both from long range and in attacking the basket to make it 40-28 at the break.

Naji Marshall had 13 points for Xavier (15-3, 3-2),

No. 4 MICHIGAN STATE 76, RUTGERS 72, OT

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Miles Bridges ended his scoreless start with 7:43 left in regulation and finished with just 11 points for Michigan State.

The Spartans (16-2, 4-1 Big Ten) were coming off a lopsided loss at Ohio State and the setback seemed to have lingering effects for the team and their sophomore star.

The Scarlet Knights (11-7, 1-4) took a one-point lead on Corey Sanders' step-back jumper with 1 minute left. Sanders missed a long jumper with 16 seconds left.

Bridges was fouled with 8 seconds left, but made only the second free throw to tie the game.

With a chance to win, Sanders missed a shot near the top of the key with a second left in regulation. Sanders made a game-tying floater with 1:21 left in overtime. He made a layup to pull Rutgers within two with 9 seconds left, but Cassius Winston sealed the win with two free throws to put the Spartans ahead by six.

Sanders scored 22 points for the Scarlet Knights.

Michigan State's Nick Ward had 17 points.

No. 7 DUKE 87, PITTSBURGH 52

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Marvin Bagley III scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Duke.

Bagley recorded his 13th double-double of the season, one shy of the Duke freshman record shared by Jabari Parker and Gene Banks.

The Blue Devils (14-2, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) never trailed and needed less than 17 minutes to build a 30-point lead.

Jared Wilson-Frame led the Panthers (8-9, 04) with 17 points.

TEXAS 99, No. 16 TCU 98, 2OT

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Jericho Sims made a free throw with 5 seconds left, then Texas watched as TCU's Jaylen Fisher missed a layup off the rim at the final buzzer in the second overtime.

Sims had missed his second free throw and the Horned Frogs got the play they wanted with Fisher driving the lane for a point-blank layup that somehow bounced out.

Texas got it biggest win of the season hours after the school announced that sophomore guard Andrew Jones has been diagnosed with leukemia and has started treatment. Further details on his diagnosis and condition have not been released.

TCU had rallied from 13 down in the second half and led 94-90 in the second overtime. The game was tied at 98 when Desmond Bane of TCU missed a shot and Kenrich Williams fouled Sims on the rebound.

Eric Davis scored 22 points to lead Texas (11-5, 2-2 Big 12). Williams scored 26 for TCU (13-3, 1-3), which made 15 3-pointers but none in the second overtime.

LOUISVILLE 73, No. 23 FLORIDA STATE 69

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Deng Adel scored 16 points and Louisville rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to defeat to snap Florida State's 28-game home winning streak.

Ray Spalding added 15 points for the Cardinals (12-4, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), who made six 3-pointers in the second half. Ryan McMahon, who scored 11 points, had three 3-pointers in the final 20 minutes, including one that gave the Cardinals the lead and another with 59 seconds remaining that pushed the lead to 71-66.

Terance Mann tied a career high with 25 points and Braian Angola added 18 for Florida State (12-4, 1-3).

**Clemson at North Carolina State**

-- Clemson is one of the nation?s biggest surprises in this crucial campaign for Brad Brownell, who is in his eighth season at the school but hasn?t taken it to the NCAA Tournament since his first year in 2011. The Tigers were completely screwed by the Selection Committee that season. Clemson earned an at-large berth to the play-in game, but the first contest of the doubleheader in Dayton ended up going into overtime By the time Clemson disposed of UAB by a 70-52 count, it was past midnight. The Tigers had media obligations before heading to the airport for a flight to St. Petersburg, Fla., where they had more media obligations on Wednesday morning. In other words, there was little time for rest or preparation for the players and coaches, and then Clemson had to play the very first game of the Round of 64 on Thursday vs. fifth-seeded West Virginia at 12:15 p.m. Eastern. The Tigers led by double digits at halftime, only to fade due to fatigue and lose in the final 20 minutes.

-- Brownell?s hot seat has cooled considerably with his team?s 14-1 start. Clemson has won 10 consecutive games since taking its lone defeat vs. Temple (67-60) in the finals of the Charleston Classic. Since then, the Tigers are 6-2 ATS in eight lined outings, although we?ll note that they?ve failed to cover the number in back-to-back contests.

-- As of late Wednesday night, most books had Clemson (14-1 straight up, 8-4 against the spread) listed as a four-point favorite.

-- Clemson has won outright in both of its road assignments, going 1-1 ATS. The non-cover came in last Tuesday?s 74-70 win at Boston College as a 5.5-point road favorite. The only other true road assignments came in Columbus, where the Tigers knocked off Ohio State 79-65 as five-point road underdogs back on Nov. 29.

-- Clemson is coming off Saturday?s 74-69 overtime win over Louisville as a 6.5-point home ?chalk.? Six players scored in double figures with Torin Dorn and Omer Yurtseven leading the way with 16 points apiece. Yurtseven had nine rebounds and three blocked shots, while Allerik Freeman contributed 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Braxton Beverly added 14 points, five assists and two steals. Beverly made all six of his free throws and both of his launches from 3-point land.

-- Before the win over Duke, N.C. State had lost its first two ACC games at Notre Dame (88-58) and at Clemson by 46 combined points. The Tigers won a 78-62 decision over the Wolfpack as 10-point home ?chalk? on Dec. 30. The 140 combined points stayed ?under? the 148.5-point total. All five Clemson starters scored in double figures led by Reed?s 18 points, six rebounds and five assists. DeVoe added 15 points, seven boards and a pair of blocked shots, while Mitchell finished with 14 points and four assists. Thomas produced 10 points, 10 boards and six blocked shots. In the losing effort, Beverly had a team-best 15 points thanks to 3-of-5 shooting from downtown.

-- N.C. State is No. 91 in the RPI, going 2-3 against the Top 50 and 100. The other quality win for the Wolfpack was over Arizona (90-84) at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

-- Steve Alford?s team is in a first-place tie in the Pac-12 standings with its 3-1 mark in league play. The Bruins swept the Washington schools in their visits to Tinseltown in late December, beating both teams handily while covering the number. Then they visited the Bay Area and initially a 107-99 decision at Stanford in overtime. However, UCLA responded by trouncing Cal 107-84 in Berkeley, easily taking the cash as a 7.5-point road favorite. 13) Further evidence that I?m an idiot; spent 90 minutes in the local DMV office today, waiting to get my license renewed. No big deal, lot of people in there? not sure how their system works, other than some 70-ish year-old lady held things up for several minutes because she had to have her license picture taken 5-6 times until it was just right.

Anyway, they finally call my number and I go up to the counter, only it isn?t my license that needs renewal. It is my dad?s license that needs renewal? he passed away three years ago. Whoops.

12) 2007 Jacksonville Jaguars are only visiting team that has beaten the Steelers twice in Pittsburgh in the same season. Roethlisberger had one of his worst games ever against the Jags back in October- he threw five INTs, two of which were run back for TD?s.

11) Seattle Seahawks fired the OC and offensive line coach, and there are rumors the DC will be gone soon, too, so the Seahawks are basically starting over again with a new coaching staff and an aging roster. As long as they have Russell Wilson, they?re going to be a contender.

10) Heard on TV Tuesday nite that Fresno State isn?t flying charters to road game as much now, which is a big deal in the Mountain West, which has schools in out-of-the-way places. Flying commercial flights to Fort Collins, Logan, Laramie makes travel a lot more cumbersome.

9) Michigan State 76, Rutgers 72 OT? Spartans were a presumptive Final Four pick few days ago, then they got bamboozled by Ohio State and then this. Go figure.

Rutgers gave coach Steve Pikiell a contract extension this week; he?s upgraded their team a lot so far, but it hasn?t shown up that much in the won-loss column. Yet.

8) Villanova 89, Xavier 65? Xavier is 15-3, but two of their losses were by 16-24 points; they?re a streaky/erratic team. Villanova scored 87+ points in its last six games.

West Virginia-Texas Tech matchups headlines Big 12 weekend

A look at the upcoming weekend around the Big 12:

GAME OF THE WEEKEND: No. 2 West Virginia at No. 8 Texas Tech on Saturday. The Red Raiders shot just 6 of 25 from 3-point range in Tuesday's 75-65 loss at No. 9 Oklahoma, their first Big 12 defeat of the season. But the Mountaineers were nearly stunned by unranked Baylor, winning just 57-54. They shot just 31 percent, but West Virginia's pressure defense forced 21 Bears turnovers and secured its 15th consecutive win.

LOOKING AHEAD: There's also a huge matchup in Norman, where Oklahoma hosts No. 16 TCU - which has been ranked for seven weeks in a row after a rough start to its Big 12 tenure. Kansas State travels to Kansas, Baylor plays Iowa State on the road in a meeting of league cellar dwellers and Texas plays Oklahoma State in Stillwater.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Freshman Teddy Allen of West Virginia. Allen was named the league's newcomer of the week on Monday after averaging 21 points in just 21.5 minutes in wins over K-State and Oklahoma. But Allen then went scoreless on Tuesday, and in his last eight games he has scored 15 or more points four times - and two or less four times. Which Allen will show up in Lubbock this weekend?

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Oklahoma, led by incomparable freshman guard Trae Young, leads the league in scoring offense at 93.1 points a game. Young had 27 points with nine assists against the Red Raiders - though he needed 23 shots to get there. Still, Young is just two assists from tying the school record for a freshman with roughly half the season left. Texas Tech entered Wednesday's games allowing a league-low 60.2 points a game - and tops in scoring margin at 19.9 points an outing and field goal percentage defense at .375. Kansas star Devonte' Graham is second behind Young with 18.1 points per game and is tied with Nick Weiler-Babb of Iowa State for second in assists - behind Young, of course - with 7.5 assists.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE: Baylor was fifth in Monday's poll, while Texas was seventh. The Lady Bears travel to Oklahoma on Saturday while the Longhorns host No. 1 Connecticut in the non-conference biggest game in Austin in years. West Virginia slipped to 15th after back-to-back losses to Kansas State and Texas.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) Rauno Nurger scored 14 points and fifth-ranked Wichita State shook off a slow start to roll past East Carolina 95-60 on Thursday night.

Shaquille Morris added 12 points for the Shockers (14-2), who improved to 4-0 in their first season in the American Athletic Conference.

Wichita State trailed 14-9 early after a 3-for-12 shooting start, but the Shockers quickly settled in to take complete control. Wichita State went ahead for good on a 15-0 run, part of a 36-9 avalanche to close the first half and drain the fight out of a once-feisty Minges Coliseum crowd.

B.J. Tyson scored 16 points for the Pirates (7-9, 1-4).

OREGON 76, No. 11 ARIZONA STATE 72

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Payton Pritchard scored 18 points and hit two free throws with 13.8 seconds left for Oregon.

Oregon (12-5, 2-2 Pac-12) used a late spurt to go up eight points and hit four free throws in the final 32 seconds to earn its biggest win of the season.

The Ducks dominated the paint, outscoring Arizona State 38-16 inside and scoring 15 second-chance points on 15 offensive rebounds. Elijah Brown had 18 points and hit two free throws with 32 seconds left for Oregon.

Kodi Justice had 21 points and Shannon Evans II added 19 for Arizona State (13-3, 1-3).

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Silas Melson scored a career-high 23 points, making seven 3-pointers, for Gonzaga.

Rui Hachimura added 20 points for Gonzaga (15-3, 5-0 West Coast Conference).

Marcus Shaver Jr. scored 16 points for Portland (6-12, 0-5), which has dropped five games in a row.

Melson hit 7 of 12 from 3-point range and the Zags finished with 13 3s in the game.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Allonzo Trier scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half and Arizona pulled away from a sluggish, close game in the final 7 1/2 minutes.

Deandre Ayton had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Rawle Alkins scored 11 points, nine in the second half, for the Wildcats (13-4, 3-1 Pac-12), coming off a loss Saturday at Colorado.

Tres Tinkle scored 18 points and Stephen Thompson Jr. had 14 for the Beavers (10-6, 2-2), who have won just once in Tucson in the last 35 years (2010).

NORTH CAROLINA STATE 78, No. 19 CLEMSON 77

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Omer Yurtseven scored a career-high 29 points, and North Carolina State held on to beat Clemson after Gabe DeVoe missed the third of three free throws with 0.2 seconds left that would have forced overtime.

Allerik Freeman finished with 14 points for the short-handed Wolfpack (12-5, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who blew nearly all of a 12-point lead with less than 90 seconds remaining but held on to claim their second home win over a Top 25 opponent in six nights after knocking off then-No. 2 Duke on Saturday night.

Marcquise Reed scored 17 points, Donte Grantham added 16 and Mark Donnal finished with a season-high 13 for Clemson (14-2, 3-1), which had its 10-game winning streak end.

Sam Hunt fouled DeVoe as he flung up a 3-pointer from the corner. DeVoe hit the first two free throws, and after N.C. State coach Kevin Keatts called a timeout, the Clemson guard bounced his last attempt off the left iron.

**Marquette at Butler**

-- As of Thursday night, most books had Butler (12-6 straight up, 8-9 against the spread) installed as a 4.5-point favorite with a total of 158.

-- Butler is No. 29 in the RPI Rankings, posting a 2-6 record against the Top 50 and a 3-6 mark versus the Top 100. The Bulldogs have the monster win over top-ranked Villanova (#3 RPI), in addition to a home win over Utah and a neutral-court scalp of Ohio State.

-- LaVall Jordan?s club has won nine of its 10 home games while going 7-2 ATS.

-- Butler fell to 2-3 in the Big East play with its third consecutive loss Wednesday at Creighton, 85-74. The Bulldogs, who are in a seventh-place tie in the league and 2.5 games behind the first-place Bluejays, failed to cover the number as six-point underdogs, falling to 2-6 ATS in their previous eight outings. Paul Jorgensen scored a team-best 18 points in Omaha. Kamar Baldwin finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal and one blocked shots, while Aaron Thompson had 12 points, two rebounds, two steals and three assists without a turnover. Senior forward Kelan Martin had 10 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, but he committed six turnovers.

-- Butler has gone 2-2 ATS in four games as a single-digit favorite.

-- Martin is averaging 19.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game, improving his averages from last year in every category. The Louisville native who has been a four-year stalwart for this program is also shooting at a career-best 87.7 percent clip from the free-throw line. Baldwin is averaging 15.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game. The sophomore guard scored 31 points in a double-overtime win at Georgetown on Dec. 27. Baldwin also dropped 28 on Xavier in an 86-79 road loss on Jan. 2. Jorgensen, the transfer from George Washington, is scoring at a 12.1 clip and has dished out 40 assists compared to merely 12 turnovers. The junior guard has made 41.2 percent of his 3-balls.

-- Butler owns a 7-1-2 spread record in the past 10 games of this rivalry. The Bulldogs have won three straight over Marquette both SU and ATS, including an 88-80 win as a 7.5-point home favorite at Hinkle Fieldhouse last Jan. 16. It was a miraculous cover for Butler, which trailed the Golden Eagles 41-25 at intermission. Martin led the way with 22 points, while Baldwin scored 18 points and handed out two assists without committing a turnover.

-- Marquette (12-5 SU, 8-8 ATS) is No. 32 in the RPI, compiling a 2-5 record against the Top 50 and a 5-5 mark versus the Top 100. The Golden Eagles have neutral-court wins over VCU and LSU, road wins at Providence and at Wisconsin, in addition to a home triumph over Seton Hall. Four of their five defeats have come against foes in the RPI?s Top 19.

-- Marquette has won three of its past four games, including Wednesday?s 84-64 blowout victory over Seton Hall in a pick ?em affair. -- VCU (11-6 SU, 7-6 ATS) is in a three-way tie for second place in the Atlantic 10, trailing loop-leading Rhode Island by one game. The Rams are 1-2 both SU and ATS in three previous road assignments.

-- VCU has won back-to-back games and six of its last seven. The only loss during this span was an 87-81 setback at St. Joseph?s in overtime. The Rams are off a 78-67 win over Duquesne as 8.5-point home ?chalk.? They overcame an eight-point halftime deficit thanks to the play of Jonathan Williams, who produced 21 points, four assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals. Justin Tillman added 10 points and 17 boards, while Issac Vann finished with 15 points and five rebounds. De?Riante Jenkins contributed 12 points and nine boards.

-- VCU owns a 2-4 spread record with one outright win (at La Salle) in six games as an underdog.

-- Tillman paces VCU in scoring (17.1 PPG), rebounding (9.5 RPG) and blocked shots (0.8 BPG). Jenkins (13.5 PPG) is burying 43.8 percent of his 3-pointers.

-- VCU is in its first season under new head coach Mike Rhoades, who replaced Will Wade after he went to LSU following two NCAA Tourney appearances with the Rams. Rhoades was previously at Rice, where he took the Owls to the CBI quarterfinals last season in his third year at the helm.

-- Dayton (8-8 SU, 7-9 ATS) is in the midst of a transition season after losing Archie Miller to Indiana after a wildly successful six-year tenure that saw the Flyers go to the NCAA Tournament in each of his last four seasons. Miller guided UD to the 2014 South Region finals before losing to Florida at FedEx Forum in the last Gator game I ever watched with my Dad (second row midcourt right behind the CBS broadcast team). Miller would lead the Flyers to a First Four comeback win over Boise State in the 2015 Tourney, ending the brilliant career of BSU?s Derrick Marks. They would win another game before falling in the Round of 32. Miller had at least 24 wins in each of his last four years and also took UD to an NIT in 2012.

-- Anthony Grant is in his first year as the head coach at his alma mater, where he played from 1983-87. As a freshman, Grant helped UD advance to the Elite Eight before losing to the eventual national champs, Georgetown. Grant was a team captain as a senior and his playing career ended with two trips to the NCAA Tournament and one invite to the NIT. After his playing career, he joined legendary prep coach ?Shaky? Rodriguez at the storied Dade County powerhouse program, Miami Senior High School, where Grant was a star player in the early 1980s. Never heard of this prep program? I bet you?ve heard of some if its former players like Doug Edwards (FSU), Gimel Martinez (Kentucky), Steve Edwards (Miami), Udonis Haslem (Florida), Allen Edwards (Kentucky), Steve Blake (Maryland) and Brent Wright (Florida). Other alums include former Florida governor Bob Graham, former owner of VI and Sportsline.com Mike Levy, South Carolina head coach Frank Martin and former NFL head coach Lindy Infante.

-- Grant?s coaching career got its big break when he joined Billy Donovan as an assistant at Marshall in 1994. He would follow Billy the Kid to Florida, where he would spend a decade before taking the VCU job. Many will remember Eric Maynor?s last-second shot for VCU that beat Duke in the Round of 64 in Grant?s first season. The Rams would go to the NIT the next year and in Grant?s third season, they lost by one to UCLA. After a 76-25 three-year run at VCU, Grant landed the Alabama job. He led the Tide to season-win totals of 25, 21 and 23, respectively, in his first three seasons, but they finished runner-up in the NIT finals, were beaten by BYU in a one-possession game in the 2012 NCAA Tournament and lost in the quarter finals of the 2013 NIT. After a year without a postseason invite, ?Bama made the NIT?s second round but Grant was let go. He initially joined Donovan?s staff again at Florida, but Billy D would take the Oklahoma City job weeks later. Grant spent two years at OKC with Donovan before accepting the gig at UD.

-- Dayton is 6-3 SU and 4-5 ATS at home so far this year.

-- Grant?s team is 2-2 both SU and ATS in conference play. The Flyers are off of Tuesday?s 87-81 win at Richmond as 2.5-point road favorites. Josh Cunningham was the catalyst with 20 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the field. Trey Lander added 18 points and nine rebounds, while Darrell Davis finished with 17 points, four boards and four assists compared to merely one turnover.

-- Davis, a senior guard from Detroit, is averaging 17.0 points and 4.1 RPG. Cunningham is averaging 15.8 points and 9.2 RPG while shooting at a team-high 69.1 percent clip from the floor.

-- These A-10 adversaries split a pair of meetings last year, but Dayton covered the spread in both encounters. The ?over? hit in both meetings as well and has been a winner in three of the last four games in this rivalry.

-- The ?under? is 7-6 overall for VCU, but the ?over? has hit in all three of its road contests.

-- Former Louisville 5-star recruit Brian Bowen, who was a key part of the federal probe into corruption in college basketball that led to Rick Pitino?s dismissal at U of L, has joined Frank Martin?s South Carolina program and is expected to be eligible to play in the 2018-19 season.

-- The ?under? is 8-1 overall for Duquesne.

-- The best ATS team in the nation are South Alabama (11-2 ATS), Portland State (11-2), William & Mary (9-1), East Tennessee State (9-2-1) and Northern Kentucky (10-3).

-- The worst ATS teams are Vanderbilt (1-12), UNC-Wilmington (1-11), Santa Clara (3-11), Denver (3-10) and Providence (4-11).

-- Auburn?s Austin Wiley has been ruled ineligible for the rest of the season by the NCAA. He can play in 2018-19, but it remains to be seen if he?ll stick around. Like Bowen, Wiley and his relationship with Chuck ?The Rifleman? Person have been a part of the FBI?s investigation into college hoops. Person was one of the men arrested by the feds several months ago.

-- Like Wiley, USC?s De?Anthony Melton was issued the same result Thursday (he?s done for this year).

-- There was the gut-wrenching news about sophomore guard Andrew Jones (out for the season as he begins treatment for his leukemia diagnosis) on Wednesday, and now Texas will be missing junior guard Kerwin Roach for an indefinite period of time. Roach, who is averaging 10.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, has a fractured left hand. Nevertheless, the Longhorns won a 99-98 double-overtime thriller over TCU on Wednesday in Austin.
