**Cincinnati at Houston**

-- As of early this morning, most betting shops had Cincinnati (23-2 straight up, 13-8-1 against the spread) installed as a 3.5-point favorite with a total of 132.

-- When these met at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, KY., the home of the Northern Kentucky Norse who are loaning the facility to UC this season, Houston raced out to a 35-18 lead with 5:18 remaining in the first half. With the Cougars closing as 9.5-point road underdogs, bettors backing UH were ahead of the number by 26.5 points. The Bearcats rallied to within three by halftime and ended up winning an 80-70 decision and covering the number as 9.5-point home ?chalk.? Kyle Washington led UC?s rally with 19 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots. Jacob Evans added 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals, while Jarron Cumberland finished with 15 points, four boards and four assists. Houston?s Corey Davis Jr. had 18 points, six rebounds and four assists compared to only one turnover and Devin Davis contributed 15 points, nine boards and three assists.

-- Cincinnati has won three in a row over Houston and five of the last six both SU and ATS. The ?under? had been a winner in this rivalry six straight times until the 150 combined points soared ?over? the 133.5-point tally in this year?s first encounter.

-- Mick Cronin?s squad is 7-1 SU and 4-3-1 ATS in eight road assignments.

-- UC hasn?t tasted defeat since dropping a 66-60 decision to Florida in Newark, N.J., on Dec. 9. One week before losing to UF, the Bearcats lost 89-76 at Xavier as three-point road underdogs. Since taking those L?s, Cronin?s bunch has won 16 consecutive games.

-- Cincinnati is 5-2 ATS with one outright loss in seven games as a single-digit favorite.

-- Cincinnati is ranked eighth in the RPI Rankings, posting a 4-2 record against RPI Top-50 opponents and a 12-2 mark versus Top-100 foes. UC, which is fifth in the latest Associate Press Top 25, has home wins over Temple, Houston, Mississippi State, SMU and UCF. The Bearcats also have road victories at Temple, at UCLA, at UCF, at UConn and at SMU, in addition to neutral-court scalps of Buffalo and Wyoming.

-- UC has four players averaging double figures in its balanced offensive attack. Evans is averaging 13.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocked shots per game. Gary Clark (12.8 PPG, 8.8 RPG) has a 50/22 assist-to-turnover ratio and is draining 51.6 percent of his field-goal attempts and 41.5 percent of his 3-pointers. Clark, a four-year starter at forward, is also averaging 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocked shots per game.

-- Cincinnati is ranked No. 1 in the nation in FG percentage defense (36.1%), second in scoring ?D? (55.9 PPG) and seventh at defending the 3-point line (30.0%).

-- Houston (19-5 SU, 11-8-1 ATS) is undefeated in 12 home games with a 6-1-1 spread record. This is UH?s third game as a home underdog, previously winning outright over Wichita State and Arkansas.

-- Since the road loss to UC, Houston has won three in a row while going 2-0-1 ATS. Kelvin Sampson?s squad destroyed Tulane by a 73-42 count Sunday as a 14.5-point home favorite. Devin Davis led the winners with 16 points and four rebounds, while Armoni Brooks added 11 points and 11 boards.

-- Houston is No. 27 in the RPI with 4-2 record versus the Top 50 and a 7-3 ledger against the Top 100. UH has home wins over Arkansas, Temple, Wichita State, Tulsa and SMU. The Cougars also have a neutral-court win over Providence and a road win at UCF. They have a pair of bad L?s ? at Tulane (RPI #124) and vs. Drexel (RPI #217) on a neutral floor.

-- UH senior guard Rob Gray Jr. led the AAC in scoring with a 20.6 PPG average last year. Gray is averaging team-highs in scoring (17.7 PPG), assists (4.3 APG) and steals (1.2 SPG) this season. Devin Davis (10.7 PPG) is averaging team-bests in rebounding (6.1 RPG) and FG percentage (50.0%), while Corey Davis (12.5 PPG) is burying 43.6 percent of his treys.

-- The ?under? is 14-8 overall for UC, 5-3 in its road games. The ?under? has cashed at a 4-2 clip for the Bearcats in their six games that had totals in the 130s. Going back several years, the ?under? is 38-13-1 in UC?s past 52 road outings.

-- The ?under? is 12-8 overall for the Cougars, 6-2 in their home games.

-- Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on the CBS Sports Network.

**Arizona at Arizona State**

-- As of early this morning, most books were listing Arizona State (19-6 SU, 13-10-2 ATS) as a one-point favorite with a total of 162.

-- Arizona (20-6 SU, 9-15-2 ATS) is atop the Pac-12 standings with its 10-3 record in league play. Sean Miller?s team holds a two-game lead over both USC and UCLA, while ASU is in a four-way tie for sixth place and three games back of UA.

-- Arizona is 6-2 SU and 4-4 ATS in eight road assignments.

-- When these bitter rivals met in Tucson on Dec. 30, Arizona captured an 84-78 win as a six-point home favorite. The 162 combined points slithered ?under? the 163-point total. It was the Wildcats? fifth consecutive win over ASU, which is 0-3-2 in those five setbacks. UA led by 12 with 4:11 remaining, but ASU?s Tra Holder hit several late buckets to give his team?s supporters a backdoor push. Holder finished with 31 points in the losing effort. Allonzo Trier and DeAndre Ayton scored 23 points apiece for the winners. Ayton had 19 rebounds and three blocked shots.

-- Arizona is No. 17 in the latest AP poll and 18th in the RPI. UA is 4-2 against the RPI Top 50 and 10-6 versus the Top 100. The Wildcats own home wins over Alabama, USC, Arizona State, Oregon, Colorado, Utah and UConn. They also have road wins at Stanford and at Utah, in addition to a neutral-court triumph over Texas A&M.

-- Arizona had dropped back-to-back game at Washington and vs. UCLA going into this past Saturday?s showdown vs. USC. The Wildcats avoided a three-game losing streak by stroking the Trojans 81-67 as 6.5-point home ?chalk.? Rawle Alkins drilled 4-of-7 launches from 3-point land and dished out five assists in a 20-point effort. Ayton produced 18 points and seven rebounds, while Trier finished with 14 points, eight boards and four assists.

-- Arizona State is No. 25 in the RPI, going 2-1 versus the Top 25, 3-2 against the Top 50 and 8-6 when facing Top-100 competition. The Sun Devils have neutral-court wins over Xavier, Kansas State and St. John?s, in addition to victories at Kansas and at Utah. They also have home wins over USC, Colorado and UCLA.

-- Bobby Hurley?s squad owns a 12-2 SU record and an 8-6 ATS mark at home.

-- Holder leads ASU in scoring (19.4 PPG), steals (1.4 SPG) and 3-point accuracy (39.3%). Shannon Evans II is averaging 17.2 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

-- Arizona State has won three straight games and four of its past five since losing at home to Utah in overtime on Jan. 25. During the three-game winning streak, Evans is averaging 22.3 PPG and has an 8/2 assist-to-turnover ratio.

-- The ?over? is 14-11-2 overall for the Wildcats, 6-2 in their road outings.

-- The ?over? is 12-11-2 for the Sun Devils, 6-6-2 in their home contests.

**B.E.?s Bonus Nuggets**

-- I?ve lost a pair of ?unders? in overtime the last two nights. First, I had ?under? 124 in Rutgers? 67-58 OT win over Northwestern on Tuesday, with the 125 combined points inching ?over? late in the extra session. Then last night in Gainesville, Florida allowed a six-point lead with less than 16 ticks left to get away. Georgia star senior power forward Yante Maten buried a 25-footer from the right wing to trim the deficit to 59-56 with 15.8 seconds remaining. After Mark Fox burned a timeout, UF?s leading scorer Jalen Hudson was whistled for a travelling violation. Next, Maten drained another 3-ball, this one from beyond the top of the key from about 28 feet out. Maten?s heroics forced OT and had UGA seeking a season sweep of the Gators for the first time since 1997. The Bulldogs would do what they hadn?t done since Tubby Smith roamed the sidelines in Athens, winning 72-69 as 10-point underdogs. They hooked up money-line supporters with a +425 return (paid $425 on $100 wagers).

-- Maten finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Tyree Crump had 13 points, nailing a huge 3-ball with just over three minutes left in OT to give UGA a six-point advantage. Georgia, now 14-11 overall and 5-8 in SEC play, still has tons of work to get back into the bubble conversation and save Fox?s job. But stranger things have happened. There are plenty of chances left, starting with Saturday?s home game vs. Tennessee.

-- Florida missed five of its first six free throws in overtime. KeVaughn Allen knocked down a triple with 10:03 left in regulation to give the Gators an 11-point lead, but they wouldn?t get another bucket from the field until there was 2:36 remaining. Hudson went scoreless and committed the costly turnover at crunch time. Mike White?s club fell to 17-9 overall and 8-5 in SEC action.

-- Check out St. John?s, which won its fourth consecutive game at DePaul last night. The Red Storm disappointed its backers like me as a 1.5-point road favorite, however. Chris Mullin?s team made only 1-of-2 at the charity stripe twice in the last 16 seconds, leaving the Blue Demons down by four after Tariq Owens? made FT with three ticks left. DePaul called timeout but had little time to get in range for a quality look at a meaningless shot that held so much importance for some. You know what comes next: Max Strus nailed a long 3-pointer at the horn to give DePaul the improbable cover in a 77-76 loss.

-- We shouldn?t get overly excited about St. John?s, right? Probably not. But what if Mullin?s team wins its last four regular-season games? Well, the Red Storm would then take an eight-game winning streak to Madison Square Garden for the Big East Tournament. When was the last time the Knicks won eight straight? The guess here is that it?s been years, many of them, and my point is that NYC would suddenly be fired up for the Johnnies at MSG. St. John?s is 12-13 overall, 4-11 in the Big East. The Red Storm went into last night at No. 64 in the RPI and No. 70 at KenPom.com. The four remaining games are at Marquette (RPI #66), vs. Seton Hall (#24), vs. Butler (#45) and at Providence (#41 BEFORE beating Villanova last night). St. John?s has Top-10 wins vs. Duke and at Villanova. It has five RPI Top-50 wins, including a 23-point victory over surging Nebraska and a neutral-court win over UCF when Tacko Fall was healthy. Eight of St. John?s 13 L?s have come against RPI Top-25 foes. Guess how many of those were blowouts? None. Only one loss, 82-70 to Arizona State at Staples Center in L.A., was by a double-digit margin, but the Johnnies were only down one to ASU with 2:10 left before the Sun Devils finished the game on an 11-0 run. If memory serves, Jim Harrick took a Georgia team with a 16-14 record to the NCAA Tournament in the early 2000s. If St. John?s wins its next four, it?ll go to MSG with a 16-13 record and lots of quality victories.

-- Even if St. John?s only wins two or three of the next four, who says Shamorie Ponds can?t pull a Gerry McNamara and get the Johnnies to the finals of the Big East Tourney? This dude is on fire! He?s played all 40 minutes in each of the last five games. He logged 49 minutes in a double-overtime loss at Georgetown on Jan. 20. Ponds dropped 44 on Marquette this past weekend and then went for 26 points and 10 assists at DePaul. He had 33 in the win over Duke and finished with 26 at ?Nova.

-- Just as we noted in this space yesterday, Providence was off an unfathomable home loss (in blowout fashion) to DePaul this past weekend. Well, Ed Cooley?s team got that loss back last night by stunning Villanova 76-71 as a 9.5-point home underdog last night. The Friars hooked up money-line backers with a +400 payout. Kyron Cartwright was the catalyst with 17 points, five assists and three steals.

-- N.C. State was another nice money-line winner (+200) in Wednesday's 74-70 win over the ?Cuse at the Carrier Dome.

-- Kentucky has lost four in a row after falling 76-66 at Auburn as a 9.5-point road underdog. The ?Cats will try to avoid five straight L?s this weekend when they host Collin Sexton and a hot Alabama team at Rupp Arena.

-- After Saturday?s controversial and gut-wrenching loss at Missouri in overtime, Mississippi State got beat by Vandy?s Riley LaChance at the buzzer last night in NashVegas. Ouch!

Last night's ATS Records
NBA: 4-5 | NCAA BB: 13-8

Wednesday's picks went reasonably well, but there were a few moments that swung results. On the positive side, OT prevented a loss on the FSU/Clemson total and I managed to avoid getting burned on a Florida/Georgia under bad beat since I held back late. There were some bullets I couldn't dodge, and the freebie crowd caugtht it too, right in the chest at the bitter end. Both sets of guarantees looked like they were coming in for a second straight day, but the college lock came up painfully short. That theme was present in the pros too, with two setbacks coming by a single point. The NBA lock managed to squeak by and is now 20-for-30 (66.7%) since Jan. 11. Here's Wednesday's recap, complete with some of the highlights (and lowlights):

THURSDAY'S FREE SELECTION

The pick: Arizona/ASU OVER
The Sun Devils will look to try and split the season series, but won't be able to slow down DeAndre Ayton, which is what took them down in the first meeting. With Dusan Ristic supplying yet another huge body Arizona State isn't equipped to deal with, they're going to look to run. Tra Holder scored 32 points and should have plenty of help pushing tempo, so the expectation here is that this game will wind up higher-scoring than the first meeting, an 84-78 'Cats win on Dec. 30. Ride the over.

WEDNESDAY'S FREE SELECTION

The pick: Hornets -5
The Magic have been a tremendous team against the spread despite all their injury issues, covering the number in 12 of their last 15. They've been an underdog in all but one of those games and are 12-2 catching points, but both of those setbacks have come at home. With Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon ruled out until after All-Star break, look for Orlando to come up short against a Hornets team that it has lost two twice in Charlotte already this season. Dwight Howard is making his debut in Orlando with his latest team and has experienced a resurgence in his first season there. With Kemba Walker in a groove and set to face off against one of his first backcourt mates, D.J. Augustin, we're going to lay the points. Ride Charlotte.

Result: The freebie is now 4-2-1 over the last seven, but looked like we had a push after a pair of Jeremy Lamb free-throws gave the Hornets a 104-99 lead with 2.3 seconds left. With no timeouts remaining, the Magic just threw a fullcourt baseball pass that Marvin Williams tried to deflect and overran, leaving Marreese Speights to catch and knock down a 3-pointer that just beat the buzzer. St. John's lost a cover (-2) against DePaul in similar fashion later in the night, so we'll take solace in not being on the receiving end of that one too.

WEDNESDAY'S LOCK

The pick: Pacers -4
The Pacers should take advantage of the fact that the Nets are still attempting to work in Jahlil Okafor and they haven't had D'Angelo Russell get back up to speed off his injury. With Caris LeVert and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson out again, quality depth is likely to be an issue against a team with a strong second unit. Lay the points and ride Indiana, guaranteed.

Result: We were fortunate to pick up a cover here, since Indiana was down three points with 5:52 left but ended up winning the fourth 35-24. Cory Joseph finished just 4-for-7 from the stripe and left the door wide open for Brooklyn, but Spencer Dinwiddie returned the favor with a free-throw miss of his own with 4.5 seconds left, resulting in a 108-103 final. The total closed 212, so it would've been interesting to see if the Nets would've fouled had Dinwiddie not missed. A push on both side and total would've been like kissing your sister on both cheeks, Euro-style, twice.

LOCK THAT DIDN'T CLICK

The pick: Nevada/Boise State OVER 150
This is for first place in the Mountain West, providing the Wolf Pack an opportunity to really strengthen their position as we head down to the wire in the regular-season race. Eric Musselman's team has been fantastic on the road, but the Broncos haven't lost at Taco Bell Arena and are fueled by an improving probable lottery pick in impressive wing Chandler Hutchison, who didn't shoot well from beyond the arc in the first meeting but did end up scoring 27. With Caleb Martin not 100 percent, Nevada won't be able to defend like it would want to on the road, but they can put the ball in the basket and will extend this at the very least. Ride the over, guaranteed.

Result: Outside of watching Lindsey Drew tragically tear his Achilles, this was a fantastic game that ended up putting on the best show on the entire college card. Both teams made big shots down the stretch, but the Wolf Pack persevered and pulled off a 77-72 win. Hutchison had a clean look at a short jumper that would've tied the game at 74 and then missed a great look at a 3-pointer on the same possession, keeping our over call from coming in. The Wolf Pack missed a free-throw that would've delivered a push, Boise turned over its last possession and the ball ended up in Caleb Martin's hands for a smooth 360 celebratory breakaway dunk that was slammed down a good second after the final buzzer. Martin was booed anyway, so we would've appreciated if he hadn't hesitated slightly before throwing down.

TOTAL RECALL

The pick: Indiana/Illinois OVER 141.5
This is a revenge game for the Hoosiers, who fell by a bucket in Champaign on Jan. 24, supplying one of the few highlights of Brad Underwood's first season at Illinois. Indiana is a different team at Assembly Hall, but this strikes me as just too many points to count on covering at home. The over is the safest bet here.

Result: This worked out well since the Hoosiers ended up covering the 9.5 with a 78-68 win that would've been too stressful to sit through as an interested party. The game extension down the stretch delivered the over far more comfortably.

CARDIAC ATTACK

The pick: Auburn -9
This isn't likely to be a fun night for Kentucky, which still has time on its side but is likely to hit rock bottom with a double-digit loss here. Bryce Brown is set to play and the Tigers are playing a fourth consecutive home game. The 'Cats come off an 11-point loss in College Station and will drop their fourth straight here. Lay the points and ride Auburn.

Result: Auburn opened 1-for-16 from the field and actually trailed 59-58 with 6:15 remaining before they took over. Bryce Brown hit big shots to help the Tigers close on an 18-7 run in a 76-66 win. This is now Kentucky's first four-game losing streak since 2009 and first under John Calipari, but it was in this game for the bulk of it and isn't a lost cause just yet. Auburn is just better and came through on the home cover.

SWING AND A MISS

The pick: Virginia Tech +10.5, VT/Duke OVER 162
The Hokies will test Duke's porous defense and will benefit from the continued absence of star forward Marvin Bagley III, who leads the entire ACC in scoring and rebounding. Without his presence on the floor, look for Virginia Tech to be more successful attacking the paint, holding up well in Durham in what should be a higher-scoring game than even this lofty number can cover. Ride Virginia Tech plus the points and back the over for the in-game parlay.

Result: The Hokies managed to score 52 points in getting blown out and left Hubie Brown puzzled as to why they were complicating matters for themselves on offense. Duke clamped down, but with Bagley sidelined, it should've been in for a tough game from a Virginia Tech team that took down UVa. Grayson Allen took Tech's heart early. Didn't see that coming.

PROOF OF CLAIRVOYANCE

The pick: Xavier -6, XU/Seton Hall OVER 157.5
The Pirates have had a lousy February so far, losing at home to Villanova and Marquette and dropping their most recent game at Georgetown. They make tough shots, but seemingly always fall into a self-imposed trap, something that will always trip you up on the road in Cincinnati. Lay the points with Xavier and ride the over for the in-game parlay.

Result: An inability to stop Trevon Bluiett provided Seton Hall's latest insurmountable obstacle, as he went for 37 points and shot 8-for-11 from 3-point range, helping his team out to a 42-22 lead. The Pirates were down big, did manage to rally behind Myles Powell and Desi Rodriguez combining for 50 points, but their nightmare month continue. The Muskies won 102-90, coasting comfortably after JP Macura ended the Hall's comeback bid with a late dagger 3, XU's 14th on the night.

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Random stuff on a winter day

13) Arizona 77, Arizona State 70? Pretty intense rivalry game. An Arizona male cheerleader was tossed by the refs for taunting an ASU player.

Arizona coach Sean Miller sweated thru his suit jacket. Sweating thru your dress shirt is one thing, but if you sweat so much it soaks thru your suitcoat too, thats some serious stress.

Solid win for the Wildcats; ASU is now 7-7 and in 7th place in the Pac-12.

12) USC 72, Oregon 70? Trojans survived 5-12 shooting on foul line and snapped a 3-game skid, scoring on an alley-oop pass for the game-winner with 0:00.6 left.

11) Wichita State 93, Temple 86? Owls led 56-42 at the half, but scored only 30 points in the second half, as their 5-game win streak ended. Temple beat the Shockers in Philly, so Wichita might want to avoid the Owls in the A-14 tournament.

10) Houston 67, Cincinnati 62? Bearcats? first loss since December 9 to Florida; I?m guessing on Selection Sunday, someone will interview a smiling Kelvin Sampson after his Cougars make the Field of 68? this win should get them in.

9) Pacers-Pelicans NBA game that was postponed last week because of a leaky roof in New Orleans has been rescheduled for March 21.

8) Seattle?s new 1B Ryon Healy has a real injury; he had an operation to have bone spurs taken out of his hand? he?ll be out 4-6 weeks.

7) Orioles signed pitcher Andrew Cashner for two years, $16M; he ain?t going to like the short dimensions at Camden Yards.

6) Wisconsin 57, Purdue 53? Badgers retired Frank Kaminsky?s number 44, and then went out and handed Purdue its third loss in a row. First half of this game was amazingly ugly.

5) Denver 134, Milwaukee 123? Nikola Jokic had a triple-double?.in the first half!!!

4) Penn State 79, Ohio State 56? Nittany Lions were up 24 at the half. Impressive.

3) Bengals? backup QB AJ McCarron won a grievance with the league, will become an unrestricted free agent next month, which means he?ll be really rich fairly soon.

2) Football players must hate baseball; Dodger pitcher Alex Wood ?tweaked his ankle during calisthenics? Thursday, so he?ll be out a few days. Someone in the NFL ?tweaks his ankle? and it doesn?t exactly make the injury report. Plus all baseball contracts are guaranteed.

I?m 58 years old; there?s a fair-to-midland chance I could get thru calisthenics without tweaking my ankle. As long as calisthenics didn?t include any running ��

During the sixth season of his tenure at Rhode Island, Danny Hurley?s program is enjoying a breakout campaign. The former Seton Hall guard is the son of Bob Hurley and the younger brother of Bobby Hurley, the star point guard for Duke when it repeated as national champions in the 1991 and ?92 NCAA Tournaments.

During Duke?s run to the ?92 title in the East Region semifinals, the Blue Devils had to get past Danny?s Pirates at the old Spectrum in Philadelphia. Of course, Duke?s next game two nights later against Kentucky was the greatest game in college basketball history.

Danny and Bobby?s father is the legendary prep coach who guided St. Anthony?s High School in New Jersey for 45 years before the school closed in 2017. The elder Hurley won 28 state titles and was named USA Today?s National Coach of the Year three times.

Bobby is now the head coach at Arizona State, while their father recently entered retirement. With ASU slumping after a great run during non-conference play, it finally appears as if Danny is the center of attention in this 2017-18 season.

Rhode Island (21-3 straight up, 14-7 against the spread) returns to the court tonight to put its perfect Atlantic-10 record on the line at St. Bonaventure. As of early this morning, most betting shops had URI installed as a one-point favorite with a total of 150.

Rhode Island has won outright in six of its eight true road assignments, compiling a 4-3-1 spread record. URI is No. 5 in the RPI Rankings, No. 16 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and No. 29 at KenPom.com.

The Rams are 3-3 against the RPI Top 50 and 4-3 versus the Top 100. They have home wins over Providence, St. Bonaventure and Charleston, in addition to a neutral-court victory over Seton Hall.

URI?s three losses have come at Nevada, at Alabama and vs. Virginia on a neutral floor. There?s no shame any of those defeats, but the Rams? resume is obviously lacking in high-profile wins, especially one on the road. This adds significance to Friday?s A-10 showdown, as this is their final regular-season game versus an RPI Top-100 opponent.

In Joe Lunardi?s latest edition of ?Bracketology? that was released Thursday morning on ESPN.com, Rhode Island is listed as a No. 5 seed in the East Region. Joey Brackets has the Rams slated to face the First Four winner of UCLA vs. Texas in San Diego. The winner would get the 4/13 survivor of Gonzaga vs. East Tennessee State in the Round of 32.

As for St. Bonaventure, it was slotted as the top team in the First Four (left) Out of the 68-team field. However, the two teams ahead of the Bonnies were USC and UCLA, both of whom were in action late Thursday on the West coast.

Senior guard Jared Terrell paces the Rams in scoring with his 17.5 points-per-game average. Terrell is averaging 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, and he?s knocked down 42.4 percent of his treys. E.C. Matthews, another senior guard, is averaging 12.9 points and 3.9 RPG, while Stanford Robinson (9.7 PPG, 5.6 RPG) has a team-high 57 steals. Jeff Dowtin (8.9 PPG) has an incredible 136/31 assist-to-turnover ratio has hit 41.0 percent of his 3-balls.

Hurley?s squad hasn?t lost since its trip to Tuscaloosa on Dec. 6, winning 16 consecutive games. URI is 11-3 ATS in its past 14 outings thanks to three consecutive covers, including Tuesday?s 85-67 win over Richmond as a 13.5-point home ?chalk.? Terrell scored a team-best 17 points and Dowtin produced 11 points, five rebounds, four steals and seven assists compared to just one turnover. Matthews is listed as ?questionable? with a knee injury that forced him to leave the win over Richmond. He had logged just 15 minutes of action and contributed only two points and two boards. Cyril Langevine finished with 15 points and six rebounds, while Fatts Russell had 14 points, four boards, three steals and two assists without a turnover.

St. Bonaventure (19-6 SU, 11-11 ATS) has won outright in 10 of its 11 home games, posting a 5-4 spread record. If the line holds with URI as a short ?chalk,? this will be the first time St. Bonaventure has been a home underdog this season. The Bonnies are 3-3 both SU and ATS in six games as underdogs on the road and at neutral sites.

Mark Schmidt?s club is ranked No. 44 in the RPI and No. 66 at KenPom. St. Bonaventure is seeking its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2012 and badly needs a win tonight. The Bonnies are 3-2 versus the RPI Top 50 and 5-2 against the Top 100. However, they have lost at Dayton (RPI #111) at Davidson (RPI #116), at Saint Joseph?s (#193) and vs. Niagara (#164).

Since going 1-4 both SU and ATS during a five-game stretch to start January, St. Bonaventure has won seven straight games, including Tuesday?s 79-68 win at La Salle in a pick ?em affair. The Bonnies? dynamic backcourt led the way, with Matt Mobley dropping a game-high 30 points on the Explorers. Mobley drained 4-of-9 attempts from 3-point range, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists. Jaylen Butler added 26 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds. Butler buried 5-of-8 launches from 3-point range.

Adams is averaging a team-high 20.5 points, 5.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Adams is sixth in the country in 3-point accuracy, hitting 50.8 percent of his 3-pointers. The senior guard has been especially hot lately, scoring 40, 44, 24 and 26 points in his team?s past four games. Mobley is averaging 18.5 PPG, his exact scoring output for last year as well. He?s also averaging 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

URI has won three in a row over St. Bonaventure both SU and ATS, including an 87-73 victory as a 7.5-point home favorite on Jan. 13. The 160 combined points catapulted ?over? the 144.5-point total to end a 4-0 run of ?unders? in this rivalry. All three of URI?s most recent wins over the Bonnies have come by double-digit margins, but the Rams are just 4-9 ATS in the last 13 head-to-head meetings.

#16 Rhode Island Rams vs St Bonaventure Bonnies

Fridays in February always give off that ?calm before the storm? feeling in the college basketball world as Saturday cards are always loaded with huge matchups with significant NCAA Tournament repercussions.

That's not the case on Fridays, as the action to begin the weekend is usually dominated by the Ivy League and some Mid-Major outfits, but when one of those Mid-Major schools is ranked in the Top 25 like Rhode Island currently is, these Friday games can be a great appetizer before the main course on Saturday.

Rhode Island (-2); Total set at 150.5

The Rhode Island Rams are looking for the season sweep over St Bonaventure tonight after the Rams won the first meeting 87-73 at home back in mid-January. That game was broken open in the 2nd half as it was just a 3-point lead at half for Rhode Island, but their ability to limit the Bonnies scoring in the final 20 minutes (St Bonny shot just 38.3% for the game) helped the Rams pull away, as did the five guys that managed to hit double figures in scoring. The -7.5 points Rhode Island was laying that day was covered easily in the end, but with them being undefeated (at the time and currently to this day) at home, the Rams eventually pulling away had to be expected.

But tonight's game is on the Bonnies home floor where they are 10-1 SU on the year with the only home loss coming all the way back in their season opener in early November. The Bonnies have never been catching points on their own floor this year, but with a perfect home record in conference play, and a current seven-game winning streak overall on the line, do the Bonnies deserve to be catching points tonight?

Early action suggests that oddsmakers didn't give St Bonaventure enough points tonight as they opened in the +1 range only to get bumped up to +2 and even 2.5 at some places. VegasInsider.com's betting percentages show about 70% of the action ATS-wise on the ranked visitors, while 80% of bets SU have seen bettors bypass laying the short number and taking Rhode Island on the ML. Winning 16 games in a row like Rhode Island has will give a program that type of credit with the betting market as many do not see that streak ending tonight.

Yet, I am not in that popular camp as St Bonaventure is a strong 'live dog' in this spot tonight for a variety of reasons. A SU win tonight would bolster their NCAA Tournament resume tremendously ? a place they haven't been since 2012 ? and while there is no real way to catch Rhode Island in the Atlantic 10 standings, a season split with the Rams would be the first seed of doubt planted in Rhode Island's mind should these two end up meeting in the finals of the conference tournament in a few weeks. The winner of that tournament gets an automatic NCAA berth, and wouldn't St Bonny love to go into that potential meeting with a boatload of confidence knowing they've already knocked off this Rams team.

Secondly, home court has meant quite a bit of late in this rivalry with the home team a perfect 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings. The home side was favored in each of those games which doesn't really help St Bonny's case specifically here, but remember, this game opened at +1 which suggests that oddsmakers believe it basically is a toss-up. With three Top 10 ranked teams getting knocked off on the road last night against unranked squads, is it really that far-fetched to see a fourth ranked squad go down 24 hours later in a similar spot? I don't believe it is at all.

St Bonaventure hung with Rhode Island the entire 1st half of that first meeting, and with the scenery changing to a more friendly environment in the rematch, don't expect the Bonnies to crumble in the final 20 minutes again. This is a chance for a statement win for St Bonaventure this year and they should be able to get it. They average 81.2 points per home game this year, and when you combine that with either the 65.2/game they allow at home and/or the 78.8/game Rhode Island scores on the road, the numbers do line up in support of an upset.

Finally, in a rare instance of coincidence (or maybe not), today, February 16th, marks the the first day of the Year of the Dog. Wouldn't it be fitting that the underdog in this matchup, who has a Wolf (like a dog) for a mascot, upsets the #16 ranked team in the country that's currently riding a 16-game winning streak...

If you strongly believe in that stuff, that's got to be the sign of all signs in favor of the Bonnies, but divine intervention or not, St Bonaventure has more than enough talent, skill and momentum on their home floor to get that statement win for their resume tonight and halt Rhode Island's long winning streak.

Saturday?s List of 13: Random thoughts, mostly about Las Vegas

13) My favorite dinner place in Las Vegas is Battitsta?s, a hole-in-the-wall place behind the Cromwell and next to Bally?s. Very good Italian place; old school, with checked tablecloths and an older guy who walks around playing the accordion.

Runner up place to eat is the Mirage, where they have the Carnegie Deli, with the biggest sandwiches ever. I order extra bread and make two sandwiches out of it.

Another good restaurant is in the Stratosphere, but I can?t remember the name of it; it is an Italian place downstairs and it is really good- lighting is dark and reminds you of scenes in different movies.

12) If you like basketball, Las Vegas is a fun place to live; UNLV hoops are lot of fun to go to; they?re having a resurgent year this season- little disappointed the public hasn?t caught on to them that much yet, but part of that is how well the new hockey team is doing.

11) In July, NBA Summer League is at UNLV for a good part of July; for $30, you can sit in an air conditioned arena all day long and watch guys to try to make the NBA.

Later in July, the best high school players in the western US play in tournaments all over Las Vegas. All the college coaches you see on TV all winter are there at one time or another? lot of good basketball.

10) Then in March, the WCC, WAC, Mountain West and Pac-12 all have their conference tournaments in Las Vegas. Lot of good action to choose from.

9) There is a Pinball Museum on Flamingo Road; you can go in and play these old-time pinball machines for a quarter. its a quirky fun way to spend a couple of hours.

8) There is a never a shortage of shows, concerts to go to in Las Vegas; plus the Golden Knights have 41 home games a year now. Jewel is playing at the Wynn in late March; Donnie and Marie play in Vegas all the time. Carrot Top has his comedy act there all the time. Lot of stuff going on.

7) Best sportsbook in Las Vegas is definitely the Westgate, where I stayed the last 11 days; huge place, good bar, three food options, just by the sports book and tremendous TV screens to watch almost anything you want. On NFL Sundays, the Westgate opens their theater to show NFL games.

6) The Neon Museum downtown has a lot of old neon signs from old casinos that don?t exist anymore; its an oddly cool piece of history, especially at dusk, when they light some of the signs.

5) They play AAA baseball at Cashman Field downtown in the spring/summer; this will be the last year for the Mets? AAA team in Las Vegas. They?re also building a new ballpark out in the northwest section of town, up in Summerlin. No word on whose AAA team will move in, with the Mets? team moving to Syracuse in 2019.

4) One thing about the Las Vegas airport; people arriving at the airport most always look happier than people flying out of Las Vegas.

3) Had a 3.5-hour layover in Baltimore?s airport Friday night, which would?ve been lot more palatable if they had decent WiFi there. They do have Chick-fil-A though and Chick-fil-A is tremendous.

2) St Bonaventure 77, Rhode Island 74? Rams? 16-game winning streak is over. Bonnies have won eight games in a row.

1) I?m back in my palatial suburban estate after 11 days in the desert; Las Vegas is great fun to visit- there was a magic convention at my hotel while I was there (no, things didn?t keep disappearing) and I went to a UNLV game (NHL tickets are too expensive since the Knights are doing so well). A full 11 days of fun, plus I missed a snowstorm. Worth it!!!!
