A Big East showdown among a pair of top-five teams highlights a Saturday of well over 100 games on the college basketball betting board. Patrick Everson checks in on the early action and line movement, with insights from Scott Kaminsky, director of offshore sportsbook TheGreek.com.

No. 2 Villanova Wildcats at No. 4 Xavier Musketeers ? Open: +1; Move: +1.5

Villanova will try to get back on track today after stunningly dropping two of its last three games. The Wildcats (23-3 SU, 17-9 ATS) bounced back from a shocking home loss to St. John?s by winning and cashing at home against Butler. But Jay Wright?s troops fell flat Tuesday at Providence, losing 76-71 as a 9.5-point favorite.

Meanwhile, Xavier enters on a nine-game SU winning streak (7-2 ATS), with its last loss on Jan. 10 at Villanova, 89-65 as a 9.5-point underdog. On Tuesday at Seton Hall, the Musketeers (24-3 SU, 19-8 ATS) won 102-90 as a 6.5-point chalk.

?This is by far the most attractive game today, so if you watch one game, this should be it,? Kaminsky said of the 4:30 p.m. ET clash. ?Villanova is going to play its guts out against a top-five team, and Xavier is gonna play its guts out to get revenge for getting smashed a month ago. I think the public will be on ?Nova. I think the smart guys will take +2 if they can get it on this game.?

No. 20 West Virginia Mountaineers at No. 13 Kansas Jayhawks ? Open: -3.5; Move: -2.5

If Kansas wants to win its 14th consecutive Big 12 regular-season title, it can ill afford any more losses. The Jayhawks (20-6 SU, 12-12-1 ATS) got blown out at Baylor 80-64 as a 2.5-point fave a week ago, but followed with an 83-77 victory at Iowa State laying 6.5 points on Tuesday.

West Virginia rebounded from an ill-timed 1-5 SU skid by winning three of its last four SU and ATS. The Mountaineers (19-7 SU, 11-11 ATS) rolled past Texas Christian 82-66 giving 8 points at home on Monday.

A month ago, the Jayhawks went to Morgantown and won 71-66 as a 6-point pup.

?So here, we have a home reversal. West Virginia will really want to avenge that loss,? Kaminsky said. Bettors seemed to have put some stock in that thought early today, as the line dropped to 2.5 for this 6 p.m. ET contest.

No. 16 North Carolina Tar Heels at Louisville Cardinals ? Open: -1.5; Move: -1

North Carolina dropped three in a row, but bounced back to win its last four on the court and at the betting window. The Tar Heels (20-7 SU, 15-10-1 ATS) dumped Notre Dame 83-66 as a 10-point home favorite on Monday night.

Louisville continues trying to weather the storm of Rick Pitino?s preseason firing. The Cardinals (18-8 SU, 13-10-1 ATS) won and cashed their last two outings, including a 94-60 road beatdown of Pittsburgh as an 11-point chalk last Sunday.

?If Denny Crum were still coaching, Louisville would probably be a 3.5-point favorite,? Kaminsky joked about this 8:15 p.m. ET matchup. ?We opened the game Louisville -1.5, then dropped it to 1, figuring we?re gonna get some Carolina money. You can expect a pretty high-scoring game too.?

Oregon Ducks at UCLA Bruins ? Open: -5; Move: -4.5; Move: -4

UCLA won five of its last six, but still sits two games behind Pac-12 leader Arizona. The Bruins (18-8 SU, 13-13 ATS) dropped Oregon State 75-68 laying 6.5 points at home on Thursday.

Oregon had a 5-1 SU run going before coming up just short Thursday night at Southern California. The Ducks (17-9 SU, 12-12 ATS) lost 72-70 but cashed as a 5-point underdog. Last month, Oregon edged UCLA 94-91, with the Bruins covering as a 4.5-point road underdog. Oregon is 4-1 SU and ATS in its last five against UCLA heading into this 10:15 p.m. ET meeting.

?I hope the Bruins lose every game, just because of LaVar Ball,? Kaminsky said, before noting that early Oregon action pushed the line down to 4 this morning. ?The public money will come in on UCLA. I think the line?s probably gonna close around where it is now.?

Saturday's Early Tips

College Basketball?s regular season continues to wind down during the month of February in anticipation of March Madness and every win or loss this time of the year can have a major impact on this year?s NCAA Tournament. Two of those impact games are on this Saturday?s slate starting with a High Noon showdown in the Big 12.

Texas at No. 23 Oklahoma (ESPN, 12:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Oklahoma -6 ?, Total 154 ?

Betting Matchup

The Longhorns? postseason plans have taken a big hit with a three-game losing streak both straight-up and against the spread. The most damaging loss was to Kansas State as five-point home favorites and the most recent loss came against Baylor on Monday night in a tough 74-73 double-overtime defeat as three-point favorites at home. Texas dropped to 5-8 SU in Big 12 play with a 7-6 record ATS and the total has gone OVER four of its last six contests.

Four of five starters ended Monday?s loss in double figures with the Longhorns shooting a spotty 36.1 percent from the field and a woeful 15.8 percent from three-point range. Freshman forward Mohamed Bamba has been the team?s leading scorer this season with 13.7 points per game. With 16 points in the latest loss, he has exceeded that average in his last three starts. Texas is averaging 72.4 PPG while allowing an average of 68.0 points on defense.

Oklahoma started its current four-game losing streak on Feb. 3 with a 79-74 loss to Texas as a three-point road underdog. The Sooners have failed to cover ATS in their last six games and the total has gone OVER in three of their last five games. Although, it did stay UNDER 153 ? points against the Longhorns. Oklahoma is now 6-7 SU (4-9 ATS) in conference play as part of an overall record 16-9. It is an even 6-6 ATS on its home court this season.

Freshman guard Trae Young remains the nation?s top college player in scoring with 29.1 PPG and Oklahoma remains the top scoring team in the nation with an average of 88.4 points, but things are just not clicking for this team right now. In Tuesday?s 88-78 loss to Texas Tech as seven-point road underdogs, the Sooners? Christian James scored a team-high 23 points with the rest of the starters adding just 27 total points in the losing cause. That total includes Young?s 19 points.

-- The Longhorns are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games following a SU loss and the total has gone OVER in their last four games on a Saturday.

The Wildcats were thought to be the top team in both the Big East and the country for a good part of the season, but some doubt has creeped in with bad losses to St. John?s at home as 16-point favorites and to Providence on the road as 9 ?-point favorites in two of their last three games. Villanova slipped to 10-3 SU and 8-5 ATS in conference play heading into Saturday?s showdown. The total stayed UNDER 152 ? points in Wednesday?s 76-71 loss to the Friars after going OVER its six previous games.

Cold shooting from three-point range was to blame for this latest loss with the Wildcats failing to convert on 17 of their 20 attempts from beyond the arc. They still managed to shoot 50 percent from the field with junior guard Mikal Bridges scoring a game-high 19 points. Villanova?s leading scorer this season has been another junior guard Jalen Brunson with an average of 19.8 PPG. He ended the game against Providence with 14 points after scoring at least 21 points in each of his previous three starts.

Xavier has moved into the top spot in the Big East standings at 12-2 SU with a SU nine-game winning streak. It has covered in seven of these games as part of a 9-5 record ATS in conference play. Wednesday?s 102-90 victory against Seton Hall as a 6 ?-point home favorite went OVER the closing 159-point line. It has gone OVER in three of the Musketeers? last four games. They have gone 11-5 ATS at home this season and the total has gone OVER in three of their last four home games.

The last time Xavier lost a game was on Jan. 10 in an embarrassing 89-65 beatdown on the road at the hands of Villanova as a heavy 9 ?-point road underdog, so you can add a revenge factor into this rematch. Senior guard Trevon Bluiett has been the Musketeers? leading scorer all season long with 19.6 PPG and he led the way on Wednesday night in a big way with a game-high 37 points while connecting on eight of his 11 shots from three-point range. Freshman forward Naji Marshall added 20 points to the winning cause.

-- When these teams met in Morgantown on Jan. 15, Kansas (20-6 straight up, 12-12-1 against the spread) trailed by as many as 16 in the first half and by 13 at halftime. Nevertheless, Bill Self?s team rallied to collect a 71-66 win as a 5.5-point road underdog. Sviatoslav Mykhailluk produced 17 points, five assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals, while Devonte? Graham added 16 points, six assists and three steals. Graham buried 3-of-6 attempts from 3-point land, and Udok Azubuike contributed 10 points and nine rebounds before fouling out after logging only 20 minutes of playing time. In the losing effort, Sagaba Konate had 16 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots. Esa Ahmad finished with 15 points and five boards, while Jevon Carter had 14 points and four assists.

-- Graham paces KU in scoring (17.5 points per game), assists (7.2 APG) and steals (1.7 SPG), and the senior guard has hit 41.4 percent of his treys and 82.7 percent of his free-throw attempts. Azubuike (13.9 PPG) leads the Jayhawks in rebounding (7.1 RPG) and field-goal percentage (76.5%), while Mykhailuk is averaging 15.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

-- West Virginia went through a miserable 1-5 SU stretch, including a one-point loss at Texas Tech and a home loss to Kentucky when WVU allowed a 17-point first-half lead to get away. The six-game slump was capped by a blowout defeat to Iowa State in Ames. Since then, though, the Mountaineers have recovered to go 3-1 both SU and ATS in their past four contests.

-- West Virginia captured an 82-66 win over TCU on Monday night as an eight-point home favorite. The Horned Frogs raced out to a 13-5 lead early, but it was all Mountaineers the rest of the way. Teddy Allen came off the bench to score a team-best 16 points and grab six rebounds. Daxter Miles Jr. added 13 points, while Wesley Harris contributed 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from downtown. Carter finished with nine points and nine assists.

-- WVU is No. 31 in the RPI and No. 20 in the latest AP rankings. Bob Huggins?s squad is 4-4 versus the RPI Top 25, 5-5 against the Top 50 and 11-7 versus the Top 100. The Mountaineers have home wins over Virginia, Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas and Kansas State, in addition to neutral-court victories over Missouri and UCF (when Tacko Fall was healthy). They have road W?s at Oklahoma, at Oklahoma State and at Kansas State.

-- WVU has posted a 4-3 record both SU and ATS in its seven road assignments.

-- Carter, the program?s stalwart senior point guard who is probably the nation?s premier on-the-ball defender, leads WVU in scoring (16.9 PPG), assists (6.8 APG) and steals (3.1 SPG). Konate paces the Mountaineers in rebounding (7.9 RPG), FG percentage (52.3%) and blocked shots (3.2 BPG).

-- KU?s seemingly endless streak of Big 12 regular-season titles in jeopardy over the next two weeks. Texas Tech is currently atop the league standings with its 10-3 conference ledger, with KU trailing by one game at 9-4. WVU is in third place with an 8-5 Big 12 record.

-- The ?under? is 12-10 overall for WVU, 4-3 in its road assignments.

Then on Sunday, they dealt out a 94-60 shellacking at Pittsburgh (think those fans miss Jamie Dixon?!) as 11-point road favorites. V.J. King, Malik Williams and Anas Mahmoud scored 14 points apiece to pace U of L.

-- Louisville is No. 29 at KenPom.com and No. 38 in the RPI, but it sure does seem like a lot of other teams who are in the 40s and 50s of the RPI have better resumes. U of L is winless in five games against the RPI Top 25 and 1-8 versus the Top 50. The best win on the Cardinals? profile is a 73-69 victory at FSU (RPI #35) in which they trailed by double digits at intermission. They?re 5-8 against the Top 100, collecting home wins over Boston College, Va. Tech and Southern Illinois, in addition to a win at Notre Dame.

-- Louisville certainly has its chances looming to pick up notable victories. The Cardinals? last five games look like this: vs. UNC (RPI #8), at Duke (#5), at Va. Tech (#58) vs. UVA (#1) and at N.C. State (#60).

-- U of L junior forward Deng Adel is averaging 15.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, but he?s missed back-to-back game with an ankle injury. Adel is listed as ?probable? vs. UNC.

-- Quentin Snyder (12.1 PPG) is the team?s second-leading scorer who has a 106/41 assist-to-turnover ratio, while Ray Spalding (11.4) is also scoring in double figures and pulling down 8.8 rebounds per game.

-- North Carolina (20-7 SU, 15-10-1 ATS) is in fourth place in the ACC with its 9-5 conference record. The Tar Heels trail loop-leading UVA by four games, while U of L is in fifth with its 8-5 ACC ledger.

Saturday College Basketball Best Bets

Another Saturday means another loaded college basketball card as the regular season begins to wind down in earnest. There is really only about two more full weeks of games after this weekend's contests are complete, so with conference tournaments right around the corner and many programs trying to get those significant ?resume-building? wins, it's almost now or never for teams considered to be on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament.

Saturday's board has plenty of high-profile games in store, but there are two games that feature blue-blooded programs that will be in the NCAA Tournament almost certainly that I've zeroed in on. Let's get right to the plays:

Big 12 - Kansas vs. West Virginia (6:00 p.m. ET)

Kansas hosts West Virginia on Saturday and it's actually the Mountaineers that hold the revenge angle after losing 71-66 at home in mid-January when they were actually laying -6 at home. We've got a 10-point swing based on that result, a change of venue, and how each team has played since then, and it's the latter that has to have you concerned as a West Virginia fan and part of the reason why I believe the revenge angle means next to nothing here.

Going into that first meeting with Kansas, West Virginia was ranked highly in the Top 10 as they had just suffered their second SU loss of the year to Texas Tech in the game prior. That loss to the Red Raiders snapped a 15-game winning streak for the Mountaineers as they slowly watched a 13-point halftime lead evaporate against Kansas. That collapse definitely stung, but looking back at the big picture now, it probably was the start of the college basketball world realizing that West Virginia isn't nearly as good as many believed (and still believe them) to be.

Since that game, West Virginia is just 4-4 SU (4-4 ATS) with all four of their SU and ATS losses coming as favorites ? twice as double-digit chalk and three times as -9 or higher favorites. Obviously the Mountaineers are catching a few points here, but when your last three road games have been a two-point win (+3.5 underdogs) @ Oklahoma against a Sooners team that's highly overrated as well, a 16-point loss (-9 favorites) @ Iowa State, and a nine-point loss (-2 favorites) @ TCU, there is a clear disconnect between perception and reality between oddsmakers and this team. Oddsmakers continue to overvalue the Mountaineers and/or the Mountaineers continue to underperform.

I've got no problem side with the latter there as oddsmakers are never shy about adjusting, although I still don't think they have enough. They know that many bettors will still look to take the points via the revenge angle with West Virginia in this role, especially since Kansas is a measly 2-2 SU and 0-3-1 ATS in their last four overall. But this Kansas program has been programed to play their best basketball in late-February and beyond, and put them at home with a low number like this and I've got no problem swallowing this minor meal of chalk. The home team is 9-3 ATS the last 12 times they've met and Kansas will make it 10-3 as West Virginia continues to get exposed.

Best Bet #1: Kansas Jayhawks (-4)

ACC - Louisville vs. North Carolina (8:00 p.m. ET)

This is the only meeting of the year between UNC and Louisville as both teams are looking to build on some impressive play of late. North Carolina halted a three-game losing streak by winning four in a row (SU and ATS), while Louisville stopped their own three-game slide with two consecutive wins (SU and ATS). The Cardinals have the home floor, but even with that advantage I do believe the wrong team is favored here.

Both teams have lopsided wins over a very bad Pittsburgh team during their recent stretch of good play, but that's where the similarities end. Louisville's other win came by 20+ against a slumping Georgia Tech team, while North Carolina has beaten Duke, NC State, and Notre Dame coming into this contest. Notre Dame isn't a death-defying contest, but the other two games were wars for UNC and to come out on top of those battles has propelled this team to the next level at the moment.

Being on a roll is nice, but with three of their four final games on the road, the Tar Heels have to finish the job now. A #2 seed in the ACC Tournament is well within reach if they finish strong, but the 4-4 SU record on the road has been their hindrance. That mark is why we don't have UNC laying a bit of chalk in this game, but all gladly take the extra line value.

Louisville is just 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games against a winning opponent, and the last two times they've hosted one (Syracuse and Florida State), they lost outright as -7 and -4 chalk respectively. Similar to my thoughts on West Virginia being overrated a touch, Louisville is starting to look like a team that should be put under the same umbrella as there conference schedule has been about as soft as it gets with no games against Duke or UNC prior to Saturday. The lone time they faced Virginia they lost by 10, and can't seem to keep any legitimate offense from scoring 75+ against them. When the slowest of slow (in terms of pace) puts 74 up on you you've got some defensive issues, but looking at the whole, Louisville has allowed 90 to Kentucky in a non-conference loss (by 29 points), and seen tallies of 78, 80, and 86 points put on them by the likes of Syracuse, Florida State, and Virginia Tech all in Cardinals home games that Louisville went 1-2 SU in.

North Carolina's offense is much better than what Louisville saw in any of those three teams, and while some will point to UNC's 0-2 SU record against those three programs (they haven't played Syracuse), both of UNC's losses came at home and the one to Florida State was by a single point.

Boil it all down and the Tar Heels should be able to run Louisville out of their own gym in a similar fashion to what 'Cuse and FSU have done recently, so catching any kind of plus-money on the ML or even catching points is worth investing in.

13) Kansas 77, West Virginia 69? Jayhawks were 26-35 on foul line, West Virginia was 1-2, in a game the Mountaineers led by 12 with 10:18 left. To say they got hosed is an understatement.

This is third straight series game Mountaineers had a double-digit lead over Kansas but lost.

12) Michigan State 66, Northwestern 60? Spartans were down 27 in first half, 22 at the half. This was one of those scores, when I saw it, thought it was a girls? score or a mistake, but then State rallies for an unlikely win.

11) South Carolina 84, Auburn 75? Tigers split their last four games after a 21-2 start. Auburn lost 6-7 McLemore, a solid rebounder, with a severe leg injury.

10) Idaho 79, Montana 77 OT? Vandals made 12-19 on arc as Grizzlies went 0-2 this weekend after starting the week unbeaten in Big Sky play. Big Sky is ranked as the 18th-best conference this year, highest it has been rated since 2010- they were 25th or lower the last six years.

9) Marquette 90, Creighton 86? Marquette lost five of its last seven games; they allowed 85-86 points in the two wins. Not a strong defensive team.

1? Shout out to the fine folks at Albany Park & Ride; when I go to Las Vegas, often leave my car there, and they shuttle me to the nearby airport. When I come back, they have the car waiting for me in their lot and it is all very convenient, especially in winter time. Good place.

Sunday College Basketball Best Bets

Sunday's college basketball card gives us a handful of high profile matchups as we've got three separate games pitting Top 25 teams against one another with a few of said squads coming off disappointing losses. #12 Clemson is coming off an OT loss at Florida State this week hosts #10 Duke, #9 Ohio State ? who got blown out by Penn State ? is in Michigan to take on the #21 Wolverines, and #5 Cincinnati ? who lost for just the 2nd time all year earlier this week ? hosts #18 Wichita State.

You'd better believe that these three contests are going to dominate the action on Sunday, but only one of them (and another contest from the same conference) will attract my money.

Big Ten - Michigan vs. Ohio State (1:00 p.m.)

When we saw Top 10 ranked teams in Purdue, Cincinnati and Ohio State all lose on the road on Thursday night it was the Ohio State loss that stuck out like a sore thumb. Winning on the road against any conference rival is tough this time of year, so you can find ways to excuse Purdue's 4-point loss @ Wisconsin and Cincinnati's 5-point loss at Houston, but Ohio State got taken behind the woodshed at Penn State in their 23-point defeat. The Buckeyes couldn't hit an ocean with their shots in the 1st half as they went to the break down 24, and from there it was simply a matter of playing out the rest of the game to get it over with and move on to the next one.

Now, after a performance like that their is the worry of Ohio State getting caught looking ahead to this Michigan game as reasoning behind their awful performance on Thursday, but given where this number sits and the revenge angle in favor of Michigan, I've got to side with the home team here. Simply put, I don't know how Ohio State could have been looking past Penn State given they lost 82-79 in the first meeting with the Nittany Lions ? when Ohio State closed at -9.5 ? so that being a reason for their horrible play doesn't hold a lot of weight here.

Michigan on the other hand is a 5-2-1 ATS in home conference games this year with their only outright home loss being a one-point heartbreaker in the final seconds against Purdue. They fell 71-62 at Ohio State back in early December, and there is no way they've forgotten about that defeat as it was a collapse of epic proportions. Michigan was up 43-30 at the half, only to get outscored 41-19 in the final 20 minutes to blow what should have been a substantial win. Now they get their chance at redemption, and for a team that is much improved since then (14-4 SU since), including going on a seven-game win streak right after that collapse, this is a game the Wolverines will find a way to get. They saw how fragile Ohio State's mentality is right now, and with the Wolverines having grown up through numerous wars this year in Big 10 play, even if Ohio State's at their best, it won't be enough.

Best Bet #1: Michigan Wolverines (-3.5)

Big Ten - Purdue vs. Penn State (8:00 p.m. ET)

Since I discussed Penn State's dominant performance earlier, it may be surprising to some that I've got no problem fading them against Purdue in this spot, especially with Purdue having lost three straight games. The Boilermakers are 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall as well, so why am I laying this chalk with Purdue here.

Well for one, it is somewhat of a letdown spot for Penn State after beating the Buckeyes in the fashion that they did, and that type of performance is tough to repeat, let alone do so on the road against a Top 10 caliber opponent. This is the one and only time they'll see Purdue in the regular season and I don't believe they've got the size inside to match up well on either end of the floor, nor the overall talent to keep this game within the number.

Secondly, if I was Penn State, the last thing I'd want to face is a pissed off, frustrated Purdue team that is coming off three disappointing losses, two of which came in the final minute of the game against elite competition (Michigan State, Ohio State). Getting up and going to play a sub-par Wisconsin team on their own floor was always going to be tough after that two game stretch and the Boilermakers definitely got caught. They looked fatigued from the outset, and the 53 points they scored ? against a Badgers team that's been bad to awful on defense all year ? was the Boilermakers lowest output all year and it came by 10 points.

Now, Purdue is back at home and looking to right all the wrongs they've felt they've experienced over the last 10 days, and they'd love to take out all that anger and frustration on a Penn State team that is simply average away from home. The Nittany Lions have already lost on the road to average Big 10 rivals like Maryland (lost by 6), Northwestern (lost by 9), and Indiana (lost by 4). They did beat Ohio State for their one significant road win, but that was the third game in six days for the Buckeyes too. College players aren't used to that type of grind and while it was a great effort by Penn State and a lackluster one by Ohio State, the situation was tilted a little in favor of the Nittany Lions that day.

Outside of Purdue's three straight losses, the same can't be said here, especially when the Boilermakers are from top to bottom a much better team then all of those I've previously mentioned. Add in the pissed off attitude they'll bring to this game and the fact that this number probably isn't as high as it should be given those three consecutive losses, and I'm all over the home side here.

This Sunday?s college basketball slate offers up pair of great matchups between nationally ranked teams in the Big Ten and ACC right out of the gate, but sports bettors might want to focus their attention later in the day with a couple of big showdowns including one between two of the top teams in the nation coming out of the AAC.

No. 19 Wichita State Shockers at No. 5 Cincinnati Bearcats (ESPN, 4 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Cincinnati -6

Betting Matchup

The Shockers? first season in the AAC has them tied with Houston at 10-3 straight-up and two games off the pace set by Cincinnati. Thursday?s 93-86 victory against Temple as 12 ?-point home favorites went OVER the closing 150-point line and it has gone OVER in their last six games. Wichita State falls to 7-6 against the spread in conference play and it is 1-3 ATS in its last four games on the road. The total has gone OVER in three of its last five road games.

Senior forward Darral Willis Jr. scored a game-high 24 points off the bench and senior center Shaquille Morris added 23 points and 13 rebounds in Thursday?s win. The Shockers are four-deep in double-digit scorers led by sophomore guard Landry Shamet with 14.6 points per game. They are ranked 18th in the nation in scoring with an average of 84.2 PPG and at the other end of the court they are allowing an average of 70.2 points to their opponents. Wichita State has exceeded this scoring average in four of its last five games.

Cincinnati?s perfect 12-game SU run in the AAC came to a sudden end with Thursday?s 67-62 loss to Houston as a two-point road favorite. The loss ended the Bearcats? SU 16-game winning streak while going 12-4 ATS. The total stayed UNDER the closing 133-point line against the Cougars and it has stayed UNDER in five of their last seven games. Cincinnati returns home with a 5-1 record ATS in their last six home games. The total has gone OVER in three of its last five games at home.

The loss to Houston was just the second time in the Bearcats? last 13 games where they allowed more than 60 points. They boast the second-stingiest defense in the nation with a points-allowed average of 56.3 points. At the other end of the court, four of five Cincinnati starters ended that game in double figures led by junior guard Jacob Evans? 16 points. He continues to lead the team in scoring with 13.6 PPG as part of a foursome of players averaging at least 11 points a game.

Betting Trends

-- The Shockers have gone 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 Sunday games and the total has stayed UNDER in nine of their last 13 games on the road.

-- The Bearcats are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following up a SU loss and the total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in six of their last eight home games.

-- This will be the first meeting between these two programs.



Penn State Nittany Lions at No. 6 Purdue Boilermakers (Big Ten Network, 8 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Purdue -4.5

Betting Matchup

Penn State brings some serious momentum into this game following Thursday?s 79-56 rout of Ohio State as a two-point home favorite. The Lions have won their last four games SU with a 3-1 mark ATS as part of their 9-6 record in Big Ten play. The total stayed UNDER 138 points in Thursday?s win and it has stayed UNDER in four of their last six games. Going back to an earlier SU upset against the Buckeyes as 10-point road underdogs on Jan. 25, the Lions have now gone 6-1 both SU and ATS in their last seven games.

Much of this team?s success this season can be attributed to the high level of play by sophomore guard Tony Carr. He posted 30 points in Thursday?s win while going 9-of-15 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range. He is the team?s leading scorer with 19.6 PPG and he has connected on 46.3 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. Penn State is averaging 76.2 PPG and it has gotten a big effort at the other end of the court with a points-allowed average of 66.0.

Purdue is a game off the pace in the current Big Ten standings at 12-3 SU as part of an overall record of 23-5. However, Thursday?s 57-53 loss to Wisconsin as a heavy 10 ?-point road favorite was its third defeat in a row. The first two losses came against the teams ahead of the Boilermakers in the standings; Ohio State at home and Michigan State on the road. The No. 6 team in the nation has been a costly bet over its last eight games at 0-6-1 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in 11 of its last 13 games.

The last three losses have been by a combined nine points with Purdue scoring 65 points or less in all three contests. This pales in comparison to an 81.4-point scoring average on the year. Defensively, the Boilermakers stayed on track during this slide by holding Ohio State to 64 points before the 68-65 loss to Michigan State last Saturday in a game that ended as a PUSH. Sophomore guard Carsen Edwards is averaging a team-high 17.1 PPG and he has met or exceeded this average in three of his last five starts.

-- The Nittany Lions have covered in four of their last five Sunday games and the total has gone OVER in 13 of their last 19 games on the road.

Friday night started much better than it ended, since I lost big showdowns in both the Sun Belt and Horizon League. My college lock came in, as did my hunch on Twitter that the World Team would take down Team USA in NBA Rising Stars. I think it's impossible to pick a winner in the 3-point and skills challenge, but do like Dennis Smith, Jr. to beat Donovan Mitchell in the slam dunk contest. Here's Friday's recap, complete with some of the highlights (and lowlights):

SATURDAY'S FREE SELECTION

The pick: TCU -7
This is one of Saturday night's most intriguing matchups. Both TCU and Oklahoma State enter this matchup under .500 in Big 12 play but they're perceived differently as far as the bracket goes. A home loss here could cast the Horned Frogs on a slippery slope, which is why I think we'll see desperation play a big role in completing a sweep of the Cowboys. Five TCU players scored in double-figures as the team shared the ball and burden beautifully in a 79-66 win in Stillwater. Consider that the Cowboys shot 8-for-14 from 3-point range and were still easily cast aside. Lay the points and ride TCU.

FRIDAY'S FREE SELECTION

The pick: Penn ML -145
The Quakers look to keep pace with Harvard atop the Ivy League by winning on the road this weekend. Although the Ivy League now has a four-team tournament in place to decide who reaches the NCAA Tournament instead of rewarding their regular-season champ, the Crimson will have to come through the Palestra next Saturday, so you know that this weekend's games will be about rebounding from their first league loss in Cambridge and taking care of business as a favorite so that they're still even with Harvard come next week. On paper, this visit to NYC will be their toughest test, so it's a good thing that it's up first. Ride Penn on the money line to win at Columbia as opposed to laying the extra possession on the road.

Result: The freebie came through comfortably thanks to a fantastic finish from the Quakers, who trailed Columbia for most of the night until putting together an 18-0 run, holding the Lions without a field goal for over five minutes down the stretch.

FRIDAY'S LOCK

The pick: Princeton/Cornell OVER 144.5
The Big Red have a pair of terrific scorers in guard Matt Morgan and sweet-shooting big man Stone Gettings. They don't play a lick of defense, so facing a Tigers squad that has dropped four straight games by also being unable to get stops should create a game where both teams chase points wherever they can get them and we'll get a game extension by whoever is down to aid the cause. Ride the over, guaranteed.

Result: Chicken dinners were provided for all who got in on last night's college lock, although there were a few nervous moments early since the Big Red couldn't score at all. Any fears that the Tigers would be able to lock Cornell down all game were alleviated before halftime, leading to a fantastic second half where we reached our goal in regulation and these teams played deep into the night. Cornell prevailed in a 107-101 triple-OT thriller that marked the first time in the 118-year history of the series where both teams scored more than 100 points each.

It's been a really rough week for the Golden Grizzlies, who have lost key senior wing Martez Walker, one of the Horizon League's top talents. They then saw their rough time compounded by a loss to Youngstown at the buzzer, so today's game will test the resilience of Greg Kampe's team. There is a chance they'll score more efficiently without Walker since Jalen Hayes and Kendrick Nunn will get more touches, so against a beatable team like Cleveland State, this appears to be a strong bounce-back spot since the Vikings are vulnerable defensively. Ride Oakland -5 and the over for the in-game parlay.

Result: Oakland put together a fantastic second half to cover our side play, but a 20-2 run over the Vikings down the stretch meant that this wasn't close enough to get the game extended with some late-game fouling. Cleveland State still got off a 3-pointer that would've delievered a push, but came up short in an 82-66 loss.

CARDIAC ATTACK

The pick: St. Bonaventure +3
There definitely seems to be a curse for most teams that have entered this week unbeaten in conference play. Montana, New Mexico State and Florida Gulf Coast joined Cincinnati in losing in their respective leagues for the first time. Rhode Island comes in perfect and will now likely have EC Matthews for this one, but there's no way he's 100 percent. Ride St. Bonaventure plus the points.

Result: This was a terrific game, living up to billing in every way. Matthews played and showed he's still got plenty of juice on an athletic, twisting jumper late in the game. His shot missed, which allowed the Bonnies to escape with a thrilling 77-74 win. St. Bonaventure is for real, winning in spite of an off night from star guard Jaylen Adams. I hope they finish strong enough to command an NCAA Tournament bid.

SWING AND A MISS

The pick: Georgia State ML -135, GSU/Georgia Southern UNDER 14
The Panthers lost to Louisiana-Monroe in Atlanta on Saturday and have only fallen in consecutive games twice this season. They owned the first meeting in Statesboro and seem to match up well with the rival Eagles due to their ability to make their guards work for every inch. Ride Georgia State on the money line and back the under for the in-game parlay.

Result: The Eagles played a fantastic game, taking advantage of Panthers guard D'Marcus Simonds being saddled with foul trouble early and throughout the evening. The teams shot a combined 76 free throws, so my under never had a shot.

The pick: Yale ML -145
The Big Green come off an enormous win over Princeton to snap a 10-game losing streak and end a winless run in Ivy League play. That upset certainly ensures James Jones' Bulldogs won't come into this one expecting a win to be a given, especially since they need this game badly considering their at .500 in the Ancient Eight and will need to put in work to secure a spot in the conference tourney. Ride Yale on the money line.  

Result: The Bulldogs took control of this one in the middle of the first half and got up by as much as 75-50, putting this one in the win column well before it was over.
