YTD Record: 4-3 for +4.2 units

SD State +145 (vs. San Diego) for 1 unit ? going with a small play on Addision Reed to bounce back from his shellacking last weekend. San Diego State?s ?ace? didn?t fare well in his first start (closer in his previous two seasons) as Oklahoma touched him for 4 ER in 4 2/3 IP. San Diego hasn?t listed their starter as they are playing coy due to the fact that SD State hasn?t formally announced Reed as the starter. Anyway, I expect AJ Griffin to go for the Torreros as he was their #1 last weekend. In that game he wasn?t superb either giving up 4 ER in 6 IP. Last year Griffin had a 3.33 ERA; 1.31 WHIP;. 250 OBA and 62 K?s in 81 IP. Hard to get a good gauge without either guy having a good outing last weekend, but I have to side with Reed and the Aztecs on an advantage in starting pitching. Offensively USD has a bit of an edge though it isn?t as extreme as it looks on paper. They pounded out 39 runs in a four game set last weekend, but that was against a pretty meager Indiana pitching staff. Should be a close game so I?ll go with Reed at a decent dog price.

Aztecs win 5-2 and Reed responded well with a complete game 4 hit, 11 K outing.

Updated Record: 5-3 for +5.65 units

Very anxious for tomorrow's lines. Some big games in Stanford vs. Texas as well as TCU vs. Fullerton. Will definitely be playing ECU and San Diego in their game tomorrow.

Texas -140 (vs. Stanford) for 2 units ? Longhorns should be geared up for this one after losing last weekend?s series to New Mexico, as well as Stanford being the early surprise team of 2010 due to their sweep of Rice. Texas? offense, or lack of it, was a problem for them last year in the regular season. They won regularly though due to their very talented pitching staff. This year has started off in a similar fashion as they have only scored 19 runs in four games. Starting pitching favors Texas handily. Jordan Pries goes for Stanford and he performed fairly well last week vs. Rice (1 ER, 5 K?s in 7 2/3 IP). He however doesn?t match up to all-american Taylor Jungmann. Jungmann was stellar last year as a Frosh (2.00 ERA; 1.06 WHIP; .193 OBA and 101 K?s in 94 2/3 IP) and started this year?s season well with a 1 ER and 8 K?s in 7 IP last week. Texas is deep again pitching wise so an edge in the pen is also in their favor. If they are able to plate a handful of runs, should be enough today.

GL Guys - looking now at the later games.

Cie - thanks and GL to you too this season.

Tennessee +165 (@ Oregon St.) for 2 units ? Tennessee has some very potent bats and should be putting up some runs this weekend. Oregon State didn?t have a very robust offensive first weekend against a weak pitching Hawaii club. Starting pitching has Bryan Morgado going for the Vols and Taylor Wardon for the Beavers. Morgado had an awful last year (6.36 ERA; 1.74 WHIP; .270 OBA and 75 K?s in 52 1/3 IP), but he has major potential as shown by his K rate. The Junior was a freshman all-american two years ago and was a 3rd round draft pick last year. He started the year by giving up 3 ER in 5 IP and 6 K?s. Oregon State has been free-swinging so far this year striking out 8 times per game, so this should set up nicely for Morgado. Wardon is a decent pitcher but nothing that will blow you away. His stats from last year were 4.15 ERA; 1.36 WHIP; .265 OBA and 70 K?s in 93 1/3 IP. In his initial outing this season he gave up 6 R?s but only 1 ER with 7 K?s in 4 1/3 IP vs. Hawaii. Really like the power bats and pitching of Tennessee to come through in this one.

UCLA -150 (vs. Vandy) for 1 unit ? very good pitching matchup in this one in Sonny Gray (Vandy) vs. Gerrit Cole (UCLA). Both guys are hard throwers that rack up the K?s. Probably a slight edge to Cole when comparing the two but Gray is no slouch and won?t be giving up many runs. Both offenses pounded out a ton of runs against meager competition in the opening weekend and are pretty even in my mind. Bullpen edge goes to the Bruins as they are deeper. Not an overwhelming advantage but enough small edges to UCLA in their hometown make it worth a small play.

Nice observation in the Vols matchup. May give the Vols a try for a 1/2 unit.

San Diego (@ SD State) -105 for 3 units ? I?m guessing Kyle Blair is going to start for the Torero?s since he didn?t pitch last night. Blair?s stats from last year were 3.13 ERA; 1.19 WHIP; .225 OBA and 62 K?s in 54 2/3 IP. He had a decent outing last weekend against Indiana. Only gave up 1 ER with 8 K?s in 4 IP, though he did have 4 BB?s. Really like this matchup with a pitcher the quality of Blair going against an Aztec offense that still isn?t performing well.

GL guys - looking into the later games now.

UCLA (vs. Okie St.) -140 for 2 units ? another great starter goes today for the Bruins in Trevor Bauer. Bauer posted great numbers last year in a frosh all-american campaign (2.99 ERA; 1.06 WHIP; .225 OBA and 92 K?s in 105 1/3 IP). He started the season with a 13 K, 3 ER performance in 8 IP versus Bethune Cookman. Thomas Keeling starts for the Cowboys. Keeling is an alright pitcher with stats last year of 4.41 ERA; 1.25 WHIP;.225 OBA; and73 K?s in 51 IP. Obviously a strike-out pitcher by those numbers. UCLA has done a good job of showing patience at the plate so far this year though. In 5 games they are averaging 5 strikeouts which is a real good number in the college game. Also Keeling hasn?t pitched yet this year as this is Okie State?s first weekend of play. They did earn an extra innings victory over USC last night. Between the pitching edge and a hot Bruins team, worth the play at not too big of a price.

Vandy (vs. USC) -105 for 1 unit ? taking a shot on Vandy to bounce back in a match-up of two clubs that lost yesterday. Taylor Hill (Vandy?s starting pitcher) had a real nice outing to start the year last weekend giving up no runs and getting 9 K?s in 6 2/3 IP vs. Niagra. His counterpart for tonight Chad Smith struggled in his game last weekend vs. Cal Poly. In that game he got touched for 6 ER?s in 4 1/3 IP. Vandy has an edge on offense as well.

Fullerton (vs. TCU) -120 for 1 unit ? Fullerton?s offense has been non-existent so far this season and the edge on paper has to go to TCU in the offensive category. Fullerton has only managed to plate 13 runs in four games, and 8 of those game in one contest. They need to breakout to help correct the bad 1-3 start the team is on. Pitching wise I believe the edge goes to Fullerton despite a talented youngster starting for TCU. Matt Purke goes for TCU and he was a first round draft pick out of high school but opted for the collegiate route. No doubt he is talented but he did get roughed up in his debut last weekend against a weak offensive Sam Houston club (3 ER, 8 K?s, 7 H?s in 5 IP). Fullerton sends Soph Noe Ramirez who was a freshman all-american last year (3.33 ERA; 1.03 WHIP; .227 OBA and 100 K?s in 110 2/3 IP). Ramirez didn?t have a good outing last weekend either giving up 4 ER and 9 K?s in 6 IP vs. Pepperdine. However, feel like Ramirez and the Titans can bounce back today.

Fullerton -125 (vs. TCU) for 1 unit ? same play as yesterday though the price went up a bit.

NC State +155 (vs. Coastal Carolina) for 2 units ? both teams have been good offensively so far this season. This play is really on the pitching matchup. NC State sends their veteran Junior Jack Buchanan to the mound for his third start of the season already. He has only given up 1 ER and 3 Hits in 8 2/3 IP so far. His first outing was a short outing in the Wolfpacks opener against a meager LaSalle club, more impressive was his start against a potent Campbell club this past Tuesday. In that game he gave up only 1 H over 5 IP. Coastal Carolina on the other hand is having a mid-week starter going for them as this is their 4th game this weekend. Jim Birmingham gets the nod for him and he was impressive against a meager Wake Forest team in his lone start this past week (1 H, 2 BB?s, 2 K?s, 0 ER in 5 IP). Birmingham is experienced in years as he is a redshirt Junior (sat out the ?08 season after transferring from Penn). However last year he pitched only 6 2/3IP. The experience factor of Buchanan against Birmingham is pretty good in my mind despite Coastal bringing in the more vaunted offense.

Not playing any of the other earlier games. Looking at the later West Coast games.
