Where it is real F ing COLD
I am a little short of 40, but my friend who is asked me tonight about colonoscopies... He knows I am a nurse... Florence or Focker call me what you willl. Anyway he can't get past the thought of something up his ass.... No offense (Big Gay Capper) or whoever you are,, In all seriousness if you or know anybody that is DUE for one.... HAVE IT DONE. I know it doesn't sound good, the thought of it doesn't make me very willing but I can tell you..IT SAVES LIVES!!! IT DOES!! I have never had it done but I have witnessed a few. I will when I am 40. Have it done, get over it, and have the satisifaction of having a clean bill of colon. Or in some cases catch something that maybe going on or have some polyps removed. While you are at it have that PSA test done as well.

I am only 34 and have had a half dozen colonoscopies due to having Crohn's disease. The prep is the worst part. By the time you get on the table for the embarassing part they hit you with versed (sp?) and you are out before you know they are poking you. I had one time with a very attractive nurse, she made jokes the whole time and I was ok. It's one of the necessary evils, but always ask for enough meds to put you to sleep so you don't know what is happening. Also, they pump air in your colon so the camera can get it, makes for some great farts after the procedure and you can't help it and the wife can't get mad

They put me under and I woke up thinking "when are they going to take me in and get this over with..."

I still don't know that they even did anything.....

Painless - no big deal and I agree.....this is a serious health issue and nothing in this word terrifies me more than cancer.....

Agree, my exact same experience. Worst part is the day before and all the laxative crap.
I was actually pissed when I woke up asking when the hell they gonna do it?

I've never had a colonoscopy, but I have been put under several times. I always try my hardest to stay awake, and it never works! :mj07:

They used to have you count down from 20. I made it to 17 once!

TRUE STORY

I too have had numerous colonoscopies for "just in case" reasons (alot of family colon cancer)
Anyhow, the one time (the last time) I went to Hershey Medical center for a colonoscopy, I was prepped, ass out, laying on my side as they wheeled me in the room for the procedure. The doctor, whom was doing it was on the phone in the room. Apparently, he must have thought I was already sedated because he was bitching at whomever....(his last job must have been whatever the procedure is called when they scope the stomach) telling them "tell her family that these things happen sometimes" "yes...yes I know" "Its not like I fucking TRIED to tear a fucking hole in her stomach" "shes in surgery now and I'll deal with it later...my next one is on the table now"
MAN I wanted to just jump up and kurby

Found a new doctor after that! Maybe that dude used to fix cars?

Wow! I remember once I started to wake up during one of them and yes it hurt bigtime. It felt like what you said, worst cramps ever. I started to moan and the nurse must have gave me more "good stuff" and I was back out. I dont think they use anesthesia. Its called "memory block" or something? When I wake up from it, I'm perfectly fine.

I've had some GI issues so I have to have a colonoscopy and also an endoscopy next month. I'm more worried about the anesthesia than the big scope they are going to shove in my ass. :sadwave:

the anesthesia they use for colonoscopy makes me sick as a dog for the rest of the day...puking...nausea....

ask the doctor if he can give you something beforehand to alleviate any potential residual nausea...

hell,you`re a doctor...you probably know this better than i do...
