The Indianapolis Colts suffered their first significant loss on the NFL's free-agent market with running back Dominic Rhodes agreeing to a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the Oakland Raiders.

"Dominic will be wearing the silver and black,'' Mike McCartney, Rhodes' agent, said this morning. "He's very excited about the opportunity.''
Rhodes and rookie Joseph Addai formed a running tandem in 2006 that helped carry the Colts to a win over Chicago in Super Bowl XLI. Rhodes started all 16 regular-season games, then served as Addai's backup in the four preseason games.
Despite coming off the bench in the playoffs, Rhodes was the Colts' leading rusher with 306 yards on 62 carries. He capped his solid postseason by rushing for a game-high 113 yards in the Super Bowl.

Rhodes visited the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills before settling on the Raiders. His decision came shortly after Buffalo traded running back Willis McGahee to Baltimore.

"Once McGahee was traded,'' McCartney said, "a lot of options opened up for us. We decided the Raiders were a great fit.''

Rhodes signed with the Colts in 2001 as an undrafted rookie out of Midwestern (Texas) State.

I agree Smurph. He is such an average back to begin with. The raiders are off to a great start once again. I thought Lamont Jordan was average but he is better than this guy. There is a reason Adai got more and more playing time as the season progressed. I guess the raiders watched the superbowl and thought they picked up a gem.

Nice payday for him though. Colts won't skip a beat and Raiders will continue to look foolish. Colts have let Marshall Faulk and Edgerrin James go and did better the following season each time. I don't think they are worried about not having Rhodes. It's all about the system and Manning. You can plugin almost anyone in the backfield.
