My mother in law just called and asked what channel the Bears game was on tonight she can't find it. I told her call Comcast and bitch to them, they do not carry NFL network it is on channel 212 at my house.

I would not go back to cable even if it was free. DIRECTV is awesome...

i like comcast

I have road runner internet service and they always call me about upgrading to cable, digital phone and cell service. They are to the point of harassment, I told them today that I do not want basic cable, the satellite never goes out and all I am doing is throwing away money if I get basic cable. I have some outlets in different rooms but we do not have enough guests to get basic cable in those rooms. I believe 3 tv's with satellite is enough.

I like Comcast as well. My father in law just added NFL network to his Comcast service last week for the Cowboys/Packers game.

I think Comcast is one of the biggest corporate whores on the planet. Extended basic & HBO cost me $90 dollars a month, to watch television? You would think they were providing cancer medication.

I'm mostly fine w/ Comcast. I get the NFL Network on the extended sports package Comcast offers. I wanted the other sports channels so it doesn't matter to me.

What gets me about Comcast is their fight w/ the "world-wide leader" and not offering EspnU. You can't get it at all, not matter what package you have. Even if you have one of ESPN's expanded packages (for college football or basketball), if a game is on EspnU, you can't get it.

you are getting a bad price there. But this whole scene is changing daily and by the end of 2008 there will be broadband price wars that bring down the cost of tv, phone and internet in most places. The funny thing is that rural places are more likely to enjoy better prices and service before metro areas like Boston.

CATV companies like Charter are neck deep into providing telephone service and their marketing thrust is unrivaled. Every fckn thing is sponsered by Charter around here (StLouis). So the phone companies combat their play by pushing out their own video offerings.

Local telephone independents and even the municipalities are building out their own fiber to the home networks so they can compete too. And why not? The average consumer will choose locally provided service over some corporate monster -- perceived as pure dark evil -- like you see in this thread.

So GAME ON! welcome to America, we, the consumers, can only sit back and wait until the CATV engineers figure out how to hook together all their fancy new telephone gear so they can turn up "triple play" service.

Now they are talking about pushing out broadband over electric cables. doesn't seem possible, yet 10 years ago I was laughing when they said you would someday get video over copper wire. Shamrock, you just gotta play the Kniefl game for now and call up a dish company to see what kind of deal you can get for the next 6 months. But who (besides Kneifl) wants to keep going through the hassle of flip-flopping companies every 6 months.

This is well outside their normal pricing.

I get extended digital cable (no pay channels) plus their upgraded high speed internet (with leasing their modem) for $90.

i used to work for comcast

i used to work for comcast

as a call center rep for cable tv

while my expertise was is in walking people through troubleshooting wire connects and reconnects and such, my job existed primarily as a sales position--which --even as quick witted as i like to think myself-- was not suited for.

as far as getting NFL network--you should have the option depending on which package you have/get. when i was there--they had differing packages and options

first and foremost you needed to get enhanced cable to have a chance at any of the avail add-ons. essentially EC is the digital box that you pay a monthly fee for as well as being able to oirder movies/events without calling---though added benefits include on demand. I'm not trying to sell this stuff here--jus explain/clarify. all told --depending on your area--was around $4-5/mo for the reg DIG box.

from there, depending on your preferences you could choose the correct pkg for what you were looking for. Right when i was kleaving--they were introducing a sports package that included NFL network. obviously it has other channels-though if memory serves was in/around neighbourhood of $6-13 IF you dont have a SILVER (one premiuim ch) GOLD (two) or PLATINUM (all) package already. IF you did its usually slighty less as an add-on like $3-7 (again depending on area costs vary).

they re-arranged the packages recently to resolve an issue thay had with people getting the HD version of channels they didnt pay for ie. someone getting NESN hd--while not subscribing to NESN--so they grouped everything together--thusly putting limitaions on "open" availability. now everything is tied into a package it seems. MInd you--lots of people had roughly all channels they wanted--and the new packages were grandfathered in once they got boxes/upgraded---which is where someone like jack might get a decent price for soo many services, or he coulda jus worked the system well--got a decent rep in signing up.

in short--you should have NFL networjk AVAILABLE to have added in a poackage that--if you have a digital box or better (digital box, then HD box then DVR) you can simply call up and request to have package added--which quite simply is a keystroke for the rep--and then you get access to channel --most times immediately__ and they pro rate the package to when you added onto service.

mind you--when i was fired from comcast (punctuality--or lack thereof) i had DVRs/internet and ph option and all channels (minus playboy) for like $13.mo, now shairng with roommates--we dont have ANY box -straight hookup to TV/analog-and split just TV 3 ways for apporx $45/mo

hope this helps guys. GL

Jack, MA must be more expensive for some reason. I have digital as well, extended basic. I was paying 84 a month for the digital extended basic, HBO, digital box, remote, taxes etc. etc. on Thanksgiving, for the Colts/Falcons game, I got NFL network, which is 7.99 a month, thus over 90 Bucks a month.

I come from generations of telephone workers, going back to my great grandfather who was with the initial American telephone & Telegraph. Just surprises me how AT & T was broken up as a monopoly, and Comcast is exactly that in Massachusetts.Verizon is trying desperately to get in individual towns to provide cable service, but they have to petition every town individually. Just seems ridiculous to me since Comcast etc. don't own any infrastructure copper etc. etc. et was all laid by AT & T (NEW ENGLAND TELEPHONE) NYNEX, VERIZON, now that company can't even provide service.

Poon, drives me crazy we can't get ESPNu also. What's the deal with that? Anybody know?

Someone explained it to me, but I don't remember the specifics. For some reason it is different than their fight w/ the Big10 Network, as they will at least allow that to be purchased at an expanded price. They simply won't let you get ESPNU no matter how much money you wanted to give them.

Can't wait until the day comes where we can get channels ala carte.
