Does anyone know of a website that allows you to put in a dollar amount and the year to see what it is worth today?

Not an interest calculator.

I saw a bank note tonight written for $500 in 1883. I was wondering what that converts to today.

That's a LOT of money, I would assume.

Here is one:

http://www.measuringworth.com/index.php

Current data is only available till 2009. In 2009, the relative worth of $500.00 from 1883 is:

$11,000.00 using the Consumer Price Index
$10,400.00 using the GDP deflator
$67,000.00 using the unskilled wage
$115,000.00 using the Production Worker Compensation
$101,000.00 using the nominal GDP per capita
$573,000.00 using the relative share of GDP

Well, at least they're consistent...

The most common has been in the $11-12K range.

How is that the case when a hamburger, fries, and drink was $0.25 according to all the grumpy old people 40 years ago. Now it's $5.

Using that rationale, the $500 would be worth $10K in the last 40 years. This note is from 130 years ago.

No biggie at all. I really don't care. Just thought it was interesting.
