Get woken up by a huge hail storm last night. Sounded like the roof was about to come down on me at 1am. Being woken up from a pretty deep sleep by that noise scares the shit out of you, let me tell ya. I went to the porch and saw that these were huge stones. I could pick up and hold 3 at once....no more. Went on like that for well over 5 minutes.

Of course.....cars are a mess

Good news....$0 deductible :0074
Bad news.....2 cars to a body shop for estimates, 2 cars to the insurance agency for pictures

Could have been worse though.....so we're fortunate

Think twice before having cars repaired. I had hail damage once and had it fixed since I had comprehensive coverage with no deductable. When I went to trade it, I was told that I'd have been better off not having it repaired than to have had the dimples knocked out and repainted!

And then they gave you less for your trade-in, right?

Of course they told you that :0003

I have been working around the clock on hail losses from a hail storm here in late march.

Defintely file a claim for property damage. Hail heavily affects the longevity of your roof. I bet your gutters are filled with granules.

Found out if it's declared a catastrophe or not. You will be surprised by the storms that are and you're never aware of it. Anyway if it is declared a cat storm then you want to have your roof checked just to be on record with your insurance company in case anything else happens.

Also if it's a CAT it doesn't "count" against you. Depending on your roof slope you may want to get up there and check it out yourself. If your roof is older you will have granule loss no matter what and if it's really old then small storms will wash the granules into the gutter. The adjuster will tell you to bend over if that's the case. The best thing to do is mark out a 10x10 area on each slope of your roof(east, west, north, south) and see how many hail hits you can find. I believe the last big hail storm here in DFW that St Farm said there had to be 7 or 10(can't remember) hail hits in each square and on each slope. Here's where it can be bad for you. Say the storm came from the east, you have a steep sloping roof(9/12 or so) and you only took damage on 1 or 2 sides of your roof. They can(not always) give you a payment for partial damage which really screws you. You would have been better off not calling them at all at that point. That's why I say climb up and look for yourself. Hail hits on shingles are pretty easy to spot.

Like u would ever get on ur roof!

We had our terrible hailstorm 4/16/1998. Millions in damage, but the good thing was it gave the town a sort of facelift with allthe insurance repairs.
