Those are all accolades that go to an individual in a team sport. Who cares. He has been on better teams than Terry, but I do need to clear one thing up. I said I think they are on the same level. That can be a pretty wide blanket sometimes but I am not trying to say Terry is a great player either. I am not trying to raise his level of appreciation to meet the standards of the levels you personally have Parker on. I am saying that both are good but forgettable players and somewhat interchangeable. Their career stats matter much more than any awards or accolades. I think you could make the same argument about players the likes of Ron Harper, Stephon Marbury, Mike Bibby, Jason Williams, Jalen Rose, Dennis Johnson and all kinds of players that, during the time of their tenure, were considered good players then, too. Parker went 2 for 7 with Lebron guarding him. Great players don't have stats like that, good players do.
you are discrediting the accolades of Parker based on him being on better teams than Terry.
Terry was on the Hawks who were terrible for the better years of his career. How does putting up decent stats on a terrible team make you comparable to someone who has "similar" stats but on a multi championship team?
Parker went 2 for 7 with arguably the best defender in the NBA on him, who also happens to be 7 inches taller than him....hardly a reason to consider him not great.
Jeff McInnis was the Clippers point guard in the early 00's....just because he averages like 13 and 6 doesnt mean he is a "good" player. Someone has to score and get credited with assists. They arent just going to score no points.
And even trying to discredit Parker based on his career stats, what are you saying about guys like Ginobili then who have been behind Parker in scoring every year. Parker only behind Duncan.
You would be hard pressed to find anyone in the world who would agree with you that Terry and Parker on an even playing field. A simple google search of best point guards of all time and you will see Tony Parker on every list that has at least 20 guys on it.
Parker and Terry are not interchangeable. I dont know how someone who thinks MJ is head and shoulder above LeBron could say that. It is WAY more realistic to say that LeBron would have had at least the same success if not greater if put in MJs spot than it is to say Terry would do the same things as Parker since they are "interchangeable".
They (Parker and Terry) have completely different styles of play. They are HARDLY interchangeable. Parker is one of the few TRUE point guards in the NBA. Terry is a guy just looking to score, he isnt a point guard with court vision and a high basketball IQ.
Point guard is arguably the most important position on the court for teams that use a true point guard. Parker has the ball in his hand constantly, clearly being a major factor in his teams 3 championships in 5 years. 2nd on the team in scoring each year, 1st in assists. Winning finals MVP in one of them and youve seen what good company that is.
I am not even a Tony Parker fan, as I have said over and over again. I do however, as does most of anyone who watches the NBA, think calling Parker and Terry equals or interchangeable is insane.
