at least atl had a nice punt there with 2:50 left

WHY DO THESE IDIOTS GIVE UP THE BALL WHEN THEY"RE LOSING???

i must be confused, i dont see where it says in the rule book that you MUST punt on 4th down

Especially with Matt Ryan as your QB. Pussy call equals loss for the game. :nono:

How can you punt nearly at midfield ? I know its 4th and 6 but thats is stupid. You have to stop the Saints anyway.........Now they never get the ball back......Unbelievable that these guys get paid millions and make decisions like that.

yep....conservative uneducated nfl coaches who all do the same thing, and think it's right.

best case scenario, they stop em, there's 1:50 left and you have no timeouts....and your at your own 35-40ish......10 yards from a pretty good offense and the game is over......

or you give yourself a chance at 6 yards......miss and you STILL have a chance to stop them and get the ball back.....after a touchback, at your own 20.

you mean you cant risk getting 6 yards vs losing out on 15-20 yards of field position?????

You can't guarantee a touchback. How about no timeouts and your on your own 5...

I don't disagree, just saying its not an easy call. You act like its easy to get 6 yards on 4th down. They picked up 4 yards on 3 downs.

If they get a 3-and-out, they have a great chance to tie it up. The defense gave up TWO first downs.

its an absolutley easy call considering the game situation and your opponent

i'd say only 2 or 3 coaches would actually go for it, the rest would punt just like smith......and in they'd almost always lose.

and i dont care where i'd get the ball back after a pooch punt....i'd NEVER give up possession of the ball trailing with that little time and only 2 timeouts.

why nfl coaches dont have a different mentality amazes me (actually it doesnt because they're in the save my job business and shift blame business not making bold decisions to win the game at hand business)

if they think they can stop the opponent from getting 10 yards on 3 plays then they should be even MORE CONVINCED to go for it on 4th and 6 and not trot the punt team out.

One of the few coaches who would have gone for it was standing on the visitor sideline......

Again, don't disagree with either call, but if you think its an "easy call", then you would make a horrible coach.

Good chance you don't pick up 6 yards and game would pretty much be over. ATL D played great all night and should have been able to force a punt rather than give up 2 first downs.

will take the lucky winner with the saints tonight; not many times what a game is close and you have 2 to's in 2nd half and one for a td that you
win.

good lord

millen and young and smith are all idiots

"it was absolutely the right call, you have to punt, you have no choice, if you go for it and miss game over????"

why.....where does it say that....why?????

statistically it's been proven OVER AND OVER

when it's late (under 3 mins) and your losing:

you punt you lose

lots of "hoping" in mike smiths press conf......"well it was 6 yards, we were at the 38 (actually it was the 45), we had to punt......we stopped them before we hoped we could do it again"

stopping someone well (on the scoreboard) for an entire game is VASTLY DIFFERENT than stopping someone from getting 10 yards in 3 plays.
