you people are missing the point....

if it was a photo opportunity where the president went to a va hospital & came upon the injured vet wearing shorts....i see no problem with a picture being taken.

however, if it is some kind of ceremony like this is then proper attire & protocol should be followed...which means no tee-shirts, shorts, or flip-flops.

you guys are doing what you accuse the conservatives of doing.....your hatred of bush has clouded your judgement..people have to respect the office of the presidency no matter what party is in office....

and as man o' vegas has suggested...you guys are looking foolish....but hey it's only the internet & it's your decision to come off any way you want...

Al, I can't speak for anyone else, but I give Bush a complete pass on this, I'm willing to bet he knew absolutely nothing about it. Its his counsel or advisers or whatever. Like I said, sunglasses certainly wouldn't be protocol, but I bet they would have suggested a soldier missing a eye should wear them. Wouldn't want the public to see that.

OK i will give in a little. But look , the man has no legs. Ok what looks more "proper"?

shorts or pants that are folded in half?

I mean if a hat was required and i had no head, then just rest the hat on my shoulders?

I mean the man fought and lost his legs in war. A little leniency , please.

no, comparing not wearing a shirt to wearing shorts is foolish. that's obvious.

i dont hate bush, i just think he's kind of an idiot. it would be smart for him to make an exception for an exceptional situation.

I think it goes deeper than face value on this. Amputees were told they had to sit in the front row? Why? Seems to me they were either being planted in the front row to show some kind of support for the President that sent them to the war that blew their friggin leg off, and the organizers are trying to gain some political currency by showing all the amputees there in support of the President - like "all is cool, Prez."

If you are worried about the appearance of a severed limb because of the President's policy, then don't stick them in the front friggin' row. Otherwise, if they are there supposedly to support them, then leave the guys alone, who actually sacrificed for whatever the Hell this President wanted them to sacrifice for.

Don't blame the brave guys, or the people finding fault with this, because of the political BS reasoning of the photo op directors, and a fearful President.

I think the President should be in a suit and tie when he is going to address the country instead of a flight suit or a baseball cap or a cowboy hat. Hell, Bush has dressed up like every member of the Village People himself while trying to sell us this war.

ok ok ok just one more thing.

that is so true, hell he even has action figures. i mean how cool is that, right?

What kid wants to play with an action figure with no legs? or even just one arm?

But give me the Prez in a flight suit, well look out Justice League.

I'll tell you exactly where he got his source from Think Progess the ultra liberal blog and liberals media mecca-- Note 1st comment to follow article--in bold
http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/19/iraq-war-amputee-denied-photo-op-with-bush/

Iraq war amputee denied photo-op with Bush.??Are you telling me that I can?t go to the ceremony ?cause I?m an amputee??? asked David Thomas, an Iraq war veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart. Thomas was told he could not wear shorts to attend a ceremony with President Bush because the media would be there, and shorts were not advisable because the amputees would be seated in the front row. David responded, ?I?m not ashamed of what I did, and y?all shouldn?t be neither.? When the guest list came out for the ceremony, his name was not on it. Now that we have that out in the open--my view would be I would not call it disgracefull but certainly poor taste for anyone to attempt to wear shorts at ceremony with President of U.S.

You seem to get off when the president dresses lile a cowboy or a pilot. Using your logic he is insulting the entire when he dresses like that. He should be in a suit and tie when he addresses us. This is not some casual Friday affair when he is lying to us er excuse me, informing us how the war is going.

Who cares why he wants to wear shorts? And exactly what kind of 'agenda' might he have? You see 'agendas' around every corner, don't you?

War amputee wants to wear shorts. Agenda!

And i'm not familiar with any cases of anybody 'spitting' on any soldiers that served in Iraq. Please advise.

Woman accused of spitting in soldier's face

A Syracuse woman was charged after a Fort Drum soldier accused her of spitting on him without provocation at Hancock International Airport, Syracuse police said.

Lauren Maggi, 35, of 256 Thurber St., was charged with second-degree harassment after the Nov. 22 incident, according to a police report.

Jason Jones, 21, told police a woman he did not know walked up to him near the United Airlines ticket counter, asked him if he was a Fort Drum solider and, when he responded that he was, spat in his face.

A second soldier on the scene supported Jones’ accusation, police said. Maggi offered no explanation for her conduct, police said. She could not be reached for comment tonight.

Just a question....how do you know that Lauren Maggi is not a Republican. Or even worse, how do you know she is not a Neocon. Judging by the way they treat the soldiers at Walter Reed she could be.
