I thought telemarketing is illegal now? Except for businesses.

so others aren't pestered w/the calls on their home or cell phone..

certainly not the case..

and why would there be a "don't call" response number if it were not a problem..

The Do Not Call Registry
The Federal Trade Commission does allow mobile phone users to add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry (the same one already in force for home phones), by either registering online or calling 1-888-382-1222. It may not be necessary ? per FCC regulations, telemarketers are already prohibited from using automatic dialers to call up mobile phones ? but millions have signed up to ensure they're protected from unwanted calls, and so can you.
Contrary to what is stated in most variants of the rumor, there is no 31-day, 16-day, or 8-day deadline for adding cell phone numbers to the Do Not Call list ? indeed, there is no deadline at all.

:0003 ...

will just have to listen to these junk calls...I refuse to make my customers listen to a recorded message when I can just answer their calls when I hear them..

SERVICE..SERVICE..SERVICE..

nobody ever really sells anything but..

if ya know what you are doing..

I get calls to donate to the police all of the time and I mean all the time.

I like to screw with them and tell the telemarketer "I used to donate to your fund quite a bit but I got two damn tickets so I'm not giving anymore."

I'll also say, "I used to donate to your organization but you caught me with a prostitute last week and threw me in jail. I'm not giving anymore."

I usually hear crickets on the other end of the phone then or they apologize nicely for taking my time. I laugh my ass off when I hang up.

I believe most calls originate from places looking for donations, such as fraternal police organizations. If you tell them to take your name off the list, they are suppose to and from my experience they do.

Those Fraternal Police guys can be reallly mean assholes and don't remove your name when you tell them to- at least in my experience. Most people I just say "I'm sorry I'm not interested but Thank you for calling" and when they keep going I clear my throat and say "I'm sorry I said I was not interested, you must not have heard me the first time." and then hang up. I usually don't hear back from them.

I bet I get at least 5-10 telemarketing calls a day at work. I have caller ID so it's pretty easy to weed them out. I used to have one guy that called me about 10 times a day just to yell at me and tell me to put PaSprint on the phone. So I would refuse and he would call back just to hang up on me. lol

Exactly, they can be mean I agree. Just think of Poon as the forum village idiot - never mind him around here. They call me constantly and I mentioned it to one of my friends and he said he got a lot of calls from them too and had requested to be taken off the list. We actually came up with that idea over beers and now I use it every time they call.

I do agree that telemarketing will eventually lose some steam. We're already seeing it with email, China surpassed the US as the top spamming country last year. However, they'll find other ways to get you next whether it be text messages, facebook spam, tweets, etc.
