Vanished into vortex
If there are any religious nuts that have been brain-washed by the particular church they go to please don't reply.

For the average Joe out there, do you believe in any of the above? If so why?

I can point to one particular phone call that I missed years ago that would have significantly changed my life, was it bad luck, was it fate, was it God?

I have believed in luck in the past, and been kicked in the nuts.

I have believed in fate and been kicked in the nuts.

I have believed in God, and been kicked in the nuts, hard.

What do you make of life, is it a random happening of events or is something/someone in charge of this ****ing mess?

I have been in situations where EVERYTHING had go wrong for me to get ****ed, and it did.

What's your take on things?

MAN, didn't I expressly ask the religious brain-washed to not reply?

pen, having faith does not make one "brainwashed".

I consider myself average.

I consider myself a believer of a higher power.

I believe the "average" ,in which you asked to reply, are believers.

Luck, Fate, Karma, on the other hand....

Luck seems to be just that...luck. I guess I don't believe someone has more or less than another.

Fate. I have major issues with the idea that I am not in control of my own destiny. Predestination is also something I can not agree with...

Karma. Karma has a tune that I can dance to. Things happen in cycles, and the universe is full of positives and negatives that work in unison. Karma is almost scientific.

I hope you find what you are looking for....

But any church (including the one I go to) will tell you that scripture is accurate, that scripture contains the verse "God knows the beginning from the end" implying God knows the end, if he knows the end then isn't is already pre-destined?

Meaning you can't do a damn thing about where you are heading?

On the course!
I think if you believe in a "god", you have to discount "luck", and the other way around.

After losing over 20 straight double downs at the Aladdin Casino last week in Las Vegas, I don't believe in anything.

Good point. My personal feeling is to be open to the chance there is a higher power, but that anyone who 100 percent thinks they KNOW for sure -- whether that person thinks there is or is not one -- is ridiculously arrogant and foolish. Because you DON'T know, and no one does, no matter what anyone wants to think. One question that has always stumped my more religious friends is this:

If God is all-powerful and knows everything that will happen, and if it's true that "God has a plan", then isn't the fact that I question his existence just part of his plan?

As for the other two parts of your post: I don't believe in fate, and think people who do simply use it as an excuse for failure. A big example is relationships, i.e. "if it's meant to be, it'll happen".... I've heard it, I've said it, and hear it from others all the time. And it's all bullshit that people use when he or she doesn't want to be the "bad guy" in a breakup.

Luck? There is luck, but I don't think it's predetermined or anything like that. Most things have to have an outcome, and some will benefit from that outcome and some will not. Those that happen to end up on the positive side more often than not I guess are lucky.

I believe in god.

I believe in luck but it works in cycles so I guess in the end it cancels out and really isn't much...

I believe in karma more than anything.

Fate, I am still not sure about.

Im still young.

I was raised a pretty religious catholic - church on sundays, CCD in the summer... weekly classes at night during the school year..

Blah.

My thoughts now that I am grown.

There is no god. Religion is a tool for the sheep to use to explain things they dont understand and to make themselves feel better when things dont go there way.

"Everything happens for a reason" BLASPHEMY! Things happen for a reason all right, but not forward looking. Things happen presently due to choices and actions you have taken in the past putting you where you are right now. God didnt make you crash your car in a tree to see if you could handle adversity... the 17 beers you drank an hour ago did.

God didn't help you score that touchdown.
Your skill and ability that you spend the last 10 years honing did.

Did God give your team the will to win the superbowl this year? Cool, so the other 25 teams can blame God on their loss, not their crappy play execution.

Your actions now, will help set your course in the future. Its not "destiny" its choice. It's driving your own course.

I've always loved the phrase"

"The harder I work, the luckier I get"
Kinda sums up the way I look at things. Not calling anything that happens "luck" but you get the jist.

"Good things happen to good people"

(sounds like that only applies to a couple people here)

"Smart people put themselves in the position to take advantage of good luck/timing"

"What goes around, comes around"

finally....

"There has to be a God or we would all be speaking German right now"

I'll worry about what any of the above means if and when I have my own mid-life crisis.

There's more than meets the eye,Something we can't see,I feel were our own Church,Higher power,Whatever you want to call it,There's a basic good&evil in us imo,What we choose dictates are path,Its hard for me to believe all those stories in the bible than again the better person i've have been through life the better my life was,When i focked up it turned into the snowball rolling down the hill,The church for me and its teaching is not for me though being a good person always seems to work,It would be too cool if there was a god,And i never say never, Just people's version of the whole deal,Can't believe someone can be styling inside a whale :SIB So with that being said penguinfan,Just wanted you to know i just had paul newmans 3 cheeses it was the bomb :D
