Usually one of two things. A bad receptacle or a loose connection on the receptacle. i would just change it they're only a couple of bucks.

was gonna say pull the plate off and take a look at the wiring...hard to f-up putting a generic receptacle in...

of course,if the house is old,the wiring could be ???

do you have a master switch that turns off power in the house?.....and if not, figure out which breaker controls that outlet..

i would definitely turn the power off...

Get a radio and plug it into that outlet, turn the volumn up so you can hear it at your breaker box. Shut off your breakers one at a time till you don't hear the radio. Now it's safe to replace.

turn the breaker off...it won`t shut down the rest of the house...just make sure your refrig isn`t on the same breaker...

unscrew the receptacle plate screws...
unscrew the 2 screws that hold the receptacle stable inside the wall...pull it out a little...should be 2 screws on each side of the receptacle...and probably a ground wire(green screw unless it`s older than hell0...

unscrew em...remove receptacle...

reverse steps to install a new one...just get the polarity right..

Exactly.

Scott: If you just disconnect it, use electrical tape and wire nuts.

.............................................................

I am electrically challenged

I dont have any wire nuts

I will use elctrical tape and try not to touch them together and fry like a turkey
