Well, we?ll no longer have Emmitt Smith to kick around.

After a two-season run featuring multiple new on-air additions to the English language, the greatest running back in NFL history ultimately has fared no better than Joe Montana as a broadcaster.

Yes, ESPN has advised that Emmitt?s relationship with the network has ended.

There will be no formal announcement ? and presumably no going away party. Or vodka-fueled roast.

?We thank Emmitt for his contributions to ESPN and work ethic the past two years,? ESPN spokesman Bill Hofheimer told us via e-mail. ?We wish him all the best.?

So we bid a bittersweet farewell to a guy who made this job a lot more entertaining. Intentionally or otherwise.

This is the best news I've heard all month and ahh, I guess I'm out of smilies. Good riddance to the biggest bumbling, stumbling announcer that I have ever heard. Emmitt= a fast run to the remote for a channel change or mute for me. Let's hope his "career" fades into the oblivion where it belongs

Great news. He had no business commentating on television.

Did you guys ever notice that 22 minutes after the hour with Emmitt Smith feature that ESPN had never was 22 minutes after the hour? It was always either 3 or 4 minutes before or after the 22 minutes.

VERY happy to see this. Now, if we can just get rid of the Stu and Steve part of the threesome, maybe we can have a wrapup show worth watching. Those three together were fricking painful to watch - not that I did for more than a few seconds after the first few tries...

he was better than Michael Irvin:scared

Who are they going to replace him with?

Deion Sanders would be a good choice, very informative and witty...

Maybe Brett Favre:shrug:

There are probably soooo many insightful wonderful choices.............but I'm sure ESPN will flub again. They just love the language butcher, the big mouth type.
I really enjoyed Cowher this year. Especially on Inside the NFL when he replaced another fool/buffoon (Warren Sapp). Very, very insightful and if you followed his picks your pocketbook would be pleased.

Off Topic but I think Lawrence Taylor would be a very good commentator, but he wouldn't go for it.
He's too busy hustling other athletes on the golf course :00hour
