No milkmen.....but we have glass milk bottles. We get them from WholeFoods, but they are from a local dairy farm.

Milk taste so much better out of a glass bottle for some reason.

We only drink soy milk, so I wouldn't know. :)

But that comes in a cardboard box. I wonder if that is why it tastes like shit?? :00hour

Been recycling for 20 years. Old gf started me doing it and I never stopped. The things I do for a little tail. I recycle everything totally by habit. We haven't been forced to yet here in Chicago.

I don't watch tv at home. Waste of electricity and valuable time sleeping. Started that about 8 or 10 years ago and I'm still actually breathing. You guys should give it a try and get your lives back. They call it the idiot box for a reason. If I'm out I'll catch a game. If I'm at the gf's house, I'll find something to watch if the tv's on and the food is in front of me.

I don't drink coffee. Never understood the fascination. Saves more juice there. I've been told I'm wired already. And I work overnight (go figure).

I don't smoke. Cancer sticks don't degrade. The roaches will be smoking them long after the big one hits.

Will call the police on the neighbor's vehicles if they think they are gonna park their massive diesel pick up truck near my house on my block (illegal to park any type commercial vehicle on any street in Chicago). I seem to only call on the one's I don't like. They get a ticket every time.

Try not to post at MJ's if drunk. Saves lots of electricity. Only do it if I'm particularly aggravated or Jack is posting drunk. (come to think of it)Guess it really doesn't save any juice.

btw

algor is an idiot

Glass milk bottles? Do you guys still have milkmen? Outside of Bugs Bunny cartoons, I didn't know they still existed!

This is where I easily separate myself from right wing.

I don't subscribe to the totality of Al Gore's commercial for a nobel prize... I mean documentary.

BUT

This thread initially did not mention global warming. I merely asked about environmental impact. Right wingers, for some reason, feel compelled to bash everything green when anything is mentioned. And, yes, I did read the obligatory comments about not meaning blah blah blah.

each and every human has an impact on this planet. And I think we understand this impact better than ever today.

Regardless of your political affiliation, it is good to be conscientious of how much you are leaving behind.

which leads to how I easily separate myself from the left wing's do as I say not as I do mentality re: the environment (Al Gore's huge house and electric bills, jet setters, suv drivers, etc.)

I'm all for being responsible and a steward of the land, and I am probably way more than the tofu eating hybrid driving loons.

I don't believe recycling should be an obligation though just like I don't believe there should be all of this non-smoking legislation (especially in restaraunts) even though I've never smoked. To me it's an infringement on your basic rights. We all can make choices. Some are right and some are wrong. It shouldn't be up to the govt. to make them for us.

Unfortunately it seems we are all too "inadequate" to take care of ourselves, so we need Hillary, Obama or Pelossi et al. uhh,or McCain, etc. :SIB

Now then, there may be truth to my above statement in many instances. Let me re-think it. :00x33

I agree with this. My questions were about what people here are personally doing. Then the whole Al Gore thing has to be slammed down everyone's throat.

I'm definitely on the right (maybe not correct :)) side of the political aisle. This thread continues the theme that I hear consistently, though. Right wingers want to dismiss everything green as an Al Gore movement.

I've never once mentioned in this thread about the government having any hand in your actions. Only asking what people are personally doing.

I completely agree on the smoking but it's not because I think people have a right to smoke. But I do feel a business owner has the right to decide whether his establishment is smoke-free or not.

yep, and just so u know I wasn't directing the left at u at all. There's just so much more to being environmentally friendly than putting your cardboard and plastic in the recycling bin on the curb every Tuesday.

I recycle every piece of plastic, glass, paper and cardboard. We just started replacing eco-bulbs when a lightbulb blows.Heat is set at 68 when sleeping and away, 72 regularly. Power everything down- computers, printers, laptops and all lights when not in direct use. Hardly ever use the oven in summer and hang clothes outside to dry. We just started using our own nylon reusable bags. I was watching nbc today and they had an interesting show on paper or plastic. 1 billion plastic bags per year are made which equals 3 million barrels of oil. I can't remember how many trees were used for the paper bags but it was alot.

I get the kids into it by helping me take the recyclables to the receptacles. We even pick up the stuff that is laying on the ground. We have 5 in our family and have had usually only 1 other bag besides the trash can and that is rare.

I think it is selfish and arrogrant not to do your part, but that is what it is to be American. Your choice wether right or wrong. I mean it takes what 20-30 minutes out of the whole week to do it. I wish they would make it mandatory. It just doesn't make any sense to me why not. I have been doing this for over 10 years and have seen the recyling pick up within the last couple of years. Where I take my stuff it gets full by mid week and went from 2 receptacles to 4 just recently and they are full by weeks end. Global warming can be argued until evreybody is blue in the face, but why not do something positive instead of sitting on your ass and do nothing.

just cover = trying to save this planet one recyclable at a time-I should write a comic book (on recyled paper of course) and use that line as my super hero.
