You guys don't get it at all. First of all he has never played before at all and the coach of that team is willing to teach him. He can only play on the line. His only other option is to play with the 7th grade team which is all kids that have been playing for some time. He doesn't have the skill to play with them so he is a bit scared as there are plenty of 200 pounders that will clean his clock very happily. This is Texas football and he should have been allowed to play in the youth association leagues growing up but he was always too big so he has been denied playing his entire life and he just wants to be like all his friends.

He is a kid after all for fucks sake.

Hope that helps,
FDC

You are way off base on this one. First and foremost should be the safety of all the kids. Sorry the kid is over-sized, but should all the other kids be put at risk because of it?

In my daughters 12 and under softball league there is a girl who is 11 years old 6'2" and 230 pounds. She is playing against kids who are as much as 150 pounds smaller than her and close to 2 feet smaller than her. She has been allowed to play despite protests from parents because it's a non-contact sport.

In three years she has hit 4 pitchers in the face with line drives and injured 2 kids in home plate collisions. Many parents do not let their kids play when they have to play that team.

Safety of the kids should be paramount to hurting this 300 ponders feelings.

I promise you that I will let you have a whole team of kids like him and I will take a whole team of 185 pound kids with talent and years of good coaching and the only ones that got hurt would be the big inexperienced kids.

Perhaps, but you are under the impression that all coaches would respect and teach the game the way you would.

That just isn't the case.

PFan,
Okay, yes I agree with you on that. I see both sides really, but the kid isn't fat either. That's really what started me posting on this. He really is a very nice young man

OS,
That would be a gas. I was telling Jaek in Indiana that I wanted to go fishing with you soon. Don't know if Jack would fish but it would be a gas.

Have no idea if correct but the first comment under the story says......The rule is "Any 7th grader over 135 pounds cannot play PEE WEE, and must play in the school league." He doesn't want to play with the school league because he doesn't want to play with someone he doesn't know. Sounds like a good opportunity for him and his mom to expand some of his rigid comfort zones that could make him a better person. In 7th grade, you GOTTA be able to adapt to survive. If this is the case then wtf is the problem. Take your ass to 7th grade ball and leave smaller keds alone:shrug:
